Hello, comrade! Welcome to our forum.

I don't think that installation system is able to install Win7 x64 over WinXP x32(86). That's because (as I can understand) that the Win7 Installer is also x64.
You should try to boot system from your installation DVD (select your DVD rom as First Boot Device in BIOS or somehow else boot from it). But beware, this kind of installation will format your system disc partition (i.e. C:\), so save your needful data somewhere.

Well, if you have multiple discs on your PC - disconnect discs which you are not need during installation. That's a safest way.  :D

From personal experience I have to agree with you. I remember when I upgraded from XP to W7-64 back in 2009, Microsoft had something that would allow you to keep your programs and data. There was no "upgrade" in the sense that W7 would totally overwrite XP, these 2 OS are simply too incompatible for a simple upgrade. Anyway, I couldn't get that program to work and I had to bite the bullet and perform a full reformat.

Trust me, I know perfectly what a pain it is to reformat, reconfigure the OS, reinstall all programs and reconfigure them too. However, in the above mentioned case, you either bite the bullet or stay stuck forever in the past. I decided to go with the lesser of 2 evils.

Follow the instructions Step-By-Step to install Windows 7:
Note: You can't Upgrade an existing Xp installation to Windows 7 as MS doesn't allow that.

1. Extract the downloaded ISO to a temp. location.
2. Download OSCDIMG and then extract it from the zip file to any location.
http://depositfiles.com/files/d8zxuifur (http://depositfiles.com/files/d8zxuifur)
3. Open a Command Prompt [Press Win+R and type cmd]
4. Now cd to the directory where you have unzipped OSCDIMG.
5. Type the following command:
oscdimg.exe â€"bC:\[path to the extraced ISO]\boot\etfsboot.com â€"u2 â€"h -m -lGRMCULFRER_EN_DVD C:\[path to the extraced ISO]\ D:\Win7_x64.iso
5. When the above command has completed, download the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool:
http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe (http://images2.store.microsoft.com/prod/clustera/framework/w7udt/1.0/en-us/Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe)
6. Install it and then open it.
7. Then, point it towards the ISO created in step 5.
8. Insert a blank DVD in the drive.
9. Now, in the tool, clock Burn to  DVD or similar.
10. When completed, the drive will pop out the DVD.
11. Shut down the com. and configure your BIOS to boot from DVD.
12. The Installation should now complete successfully!
