[Tutorial] How to turn off Metro UI in Windows8
« on: February 22, 2013, 02:12 PM »
Of course, many of us hate modern "tile-looking" interface of Win8. Some guys in our, russian internet segment often called the Metro UI "Metrosexual UI".  ;D
Of course, to use or not to use Metrio is a choice of each user, but, if you want to turn it off, you can use this instructions:

Quote
To turn off Metro user interface, you shoud follow next steps:
  • Create text file named HideMetro, contains next strings:

    [Shell]
    Command=2
    IconFile=Explorer.exe,3

    [Taskbar]
    Command=ToggleDesktop

  • Save this file with extension .scf
  • Press Windows button (one with flag, generally near "Alt button") + R, envoke Task sheduler console by command taskschd.msc
  • In opened window, select "Task sheduler library" and open "New task master" by clicking "Create new task..."
  • Add name to your new task, for example "Hide metro UI", and go to "Triggers" tab
  • Create a new trigger, set it "run on startup" (select from falling list at the top of the window)
  • Go to tab "Actions", and add a new action "Start program" (as a program to start select our "HideMetro.scf")
  • Save created task. On next restart your Metro will be shut down.

A task will start each time after system start, maybe with little late.

Also, you can simple put this file to StartUp, by copying it to "C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs".

Original of manual is here. Also, I must say that it was written on a almost mad language... This isn't russian language - this is coprorate corporate language! Even a Google translator can't speak so... Inhuman.

thanks to the specialist daniil for those explanations. Ive installed a windows 8 virtual machine to test it a little more, since Ive tested it on the machine of a relative, but still, Im still encountering problems for a perfect unattend install. The key must be entered to install it unlike windows 7, so it needs an autounattend.xml, but I dont have one prepared. But the main problem is the activation of the machine, and thats a real pain in the neck. Si for the moment I'm stuck. I dont do anything with windows 7 since ie10 has not been released.

Scarface - any strange pirated key will begin the install process. Also, Windows 8 is not XP or 7 in the sense that the whole installation process is much faster. As for "activation" on the torrents there are tons of activators, and I guarantee at least one will work. I have a fully pirated W8 activation on my laptop and it's still working.

After the economic collapse I suspect scarface and Humbert will look like this, hunger will push them to gulp down everything within reach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoP92132bGY

Scarface - I'm not surprised that Daz has apparently found another way to activate W8. There will always be ways - believe me, Micro$oft will make sure of that. They continue to follow the strategy that has made Bill Gate$ the richest man alive -- having Windows on every computer regardless of how it got there. Notice that supposedly the $14.99 upgrade deal was to last until January. Microsoft is still sending me e-mails to buy Windows at that price.

The fact that you and I might have to eat out of garbage cans in the near future doesn't mean the rest of humanity is in that same situation. I too am facing a financial nightmare in the next few months, but this doesn't mean this whole city is going to suffer too.

These people who speak of gloom and doom remind me of the propagandists - you'd think they all went to the same school.

What else were you referring to them? It couldn't possibly be Windows 7 - that's been super-ultra activated for years.

My message was clear. read it again.
And these videos were just jokes. The second video with two dogs out of control is much funnier than the first one.
