I opened another tab and took a brief look at the p5pl2. This thing has 2 sound outputs - the analog 5.1 and SDPIF. I suppose my first question is - in the event you're using the board's own sound system, which of these 2 are you using and how is it hooked up (speakers, connections, etc)? I'm assuming the board's sound mechanism appears in Device Manager and is listed as working, and I'm assuming the speakers are powered up with a green light on.

There's another thing. It's been quite a while since I've used XP and my memory isn't that good, but on Windows 7 and 8 if you go into Control Panel -> Sound, you'll see several possible sound devices. It's entirely possible that the sound device shown as default is not where speakers are located. To give you an idea, a friend also complained of the same thing once. I noticed that the front speaker connections (the ones in front of the case) were listed as default and his speakers were connected in the rear. It was a simple matter of either changing the default output device or hooking the speakers to the front.

Let me know.

I just check asus site and your board has a SoundMax AD1986A Audio Driver V5.10.01.4160 for Windows 2000/XP/2003.
1) First of all check if your computer was not setting to use spdif out. If it´s seeting to use spdif try to put in analog mode.
1) Check the driver release
2) If you are using slimware utilities reinstall the driver because slimware uses realtek files and sometimes this is uncompatible with other chips

Hello,

Thanks both above for your support friends.

I tried to delete  sound driver and after download driver from asus site and installed. it worked.

before everything was ok in device manage what was problem?

scarface

you didnt even precise which driver was installed and which driver you reinstalled. Then no one will know why it was acting up.

I think that the problem was that DriverPack Solution detected your sound card as REALTEK. However it's SoundMax, and for that, it won't work.
I'm saying that because my Motherboard is also ASUS and it has a SoundMax sound card. When I was trying any Driver Pack, they all detect it as RealTek.
This wouldn't come on my mind until you mentioned using Driver Pack.

That's why I prefer to download your drivers from your motherboard's website.

didnt think anyone would resolve this problem with so few elements but ahmad did. he's a real specialist, deserving to be listened.

Easy, dear friend. :)
I'm not that expert.

When he mentioned using a Driver Pack, I just remembered what happened with me before with the same sound card, so I shared it.
