Subtitling problem, help needed

Subtitling problem, help needed
« on: February 28, 2018, 09:09 AM »
Hello,

So everything was going alright on Subtitle Workshop, until I had this problem.

Someone else did too and it wasn't answered.

Hello,

I'm trying to use Subtitle Workshop to translate and add subtitles to a film. I've used the program before without any problems, but now some of the subtitles won't appear on the video. The first 48 lines appear normally. After that nothing shows on the video. All the translations do show on the text fields below, however. The timings are also there, because when you double-click on the text, it goes to the part of the video where it is supposed to show. But it doesn't.
Can anyone tell me what happened all of a sudden in the middle of my project and how this can be fixed?
Thank you for your help!

Any idea why this has to happen now in the middle of work?

Thanks.

Problem solved.

Just downloaded version 2.51 and installed it in a different directory.

Works like a charm.

Windows 10 & subtitle workshop 6.0 don't go together well.

Not the latest large update though.

I'm using version 6.0b on windows 10 without a glitch..

A new problem has risen for me, all the programs that supposedly hardcode the subtitles to a video, such as Handbrake, or Format Factory fail miserably, unless in Handbrake, you need to open the subtitle file (srt in my case) in notepad first and save it as *.srt using UTF-8 coding. Font coloring doesn't work with hardcoding Arabic subs in this method. If you need to edit the subtitles, then you need to open the file again in notepad and return the coding to ANSI & saving.

I spent nearly 9 hours trying to get the subs to be permanent on Format Factory and it only worked twice and bummer, I had crucial corrections that required starting over after that..

Is there a full-featured program that does these types of operations & more in the subtitling field that is easy to use and reliable?

Maybe you should use subtitle edit, I don't have problems with it.
And maybe you could share your movies. If you have good 1080p brrip, you could upload them for the forum.

And to hardcode subtitles, I know I encountered problems with handbrake too, and I used vidcoder. But the best thing to do is to add them as a new stream. You can do it with mkvtoonix...

My problem is in hardcoding the subs permanently to the videos so that my subtitling in Arabic is not credited to someone else, or at least make that difficult to a certain point.
As to my movies, I have more than a terabyte of mostly 1080p torrents.
Though, I'm not translating/subtitling entertainment stuff, more like famous speeches, and documentaries. Now finalizing #2  :)

If you or anyone else need English subtitles for something in Arabic (preferably decent knowledge which is scarce), I'm your guy!

I was thinking of doing a 4-part Aljazeera documentary on 9/11 called Danger Bells which is like no other in uncovering a huge part of the conspiracy, from the Alqaeda side. That info is still exclusive to that film.

On the American side, I would recommend Loose Change 9/11 Final Cut 2007 which up to this day hasn't been translated to many languages including my own. I'm copying & pasting from a transcript I found of the movie on the net to make English subs so that everyone else can translate it with ease to their respectful language.

PS: subtitle edit is included in the version of windows 10 RS4 x64 I posted a few days ago (in windows 7 too).

For sure if you add a stream, the srt can be extracted easily. But it's much faster since you don't have to re-encode the movie.
You mean by adding a stream something like the way many mkv files come with an embedded subtitle stream. I aim only to re-encode.

You have 1Tb of movie and you did not upload one mere movie yet? (I have roughly 600Gb of movies, but I'm doing a drastic selection and all of them are Brrip or Dvdrip).
Well, if you have tons of common American movies, like Terminator 2 or Spiderman, I guess neither I nor the users of the forum are interested. But if you have rare movies, like movies from the Middle East (you probably noticed my Palestinian movies, certainly you can understand them), sci-fi or drama movies, with English Subtitles, some upload links can be of any use here.
For the moments the few youtube links you have given were dealing with 9/11, or with "doctors of theology". I hope your videos are not only dealing with these subjects.

I don't see the necessity to upload something that is readily available for everyone out there to download via torrents.
Unless convinced otherwise, I could always recommend some good ones all the time.
And no, the movies I watch(ed) aren't all documentaries about 9/11 and theology.
I'm more into those that didn't make the billions that Marvel movies make (although I watch them too) but better them in terms of acting, story, or plot, not necessarily CGI.

I got your (post script) notes and I am anxious to format this machine sooner than later, but the problem with these new things are the awfully troublesome drivers to acquire.
