Title: Victory day!
Post by: Daniil on May 09, 2014, 08:54 AM
Hello, comrades!
Today is the great day - the day of 69th anniversary of Victory over fascism.

Today many political forces wants to quarrel our nations, and many politicans in all countries want to shatter the peace. I don't want to talk about them, they are blinded with lust of power.

We, common people, remember the other - great help and support in the time of disaster. Of course we know that that was initiated by politicans, of course we know that big capitalists get rich on war and terror, but we also know that common people of your countries worked simple and good just to help us.

Happy Victory Day, allies! Peace to your all! :)

@Daniil -> Germany capitulated on May 8, 1945. Why is it celebrated on May 9?

I should also mention that "fascist" is a misnomer. It's the movement started by Mussolini. The name came from the Latin word fasces, which is a bundle of rods tied around an ax. The symbolism is that a bundle of rods is difficult to break.

It's argued that Hitler's movement, Naziism or National Socialism is an offshoot of Mussolini's fascism, but as you know there were many differences.

It is celebrated on May 9 because that was declared by decree of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union at May 8. When Germany capitulation was signed (on May 8), Supreme Soviet (by order of Stalin) prepared and created May 9 the holyday - the Victory Day.

As about the difference in therms - well... ;D You know, the movement declared in Soviet Union was, in fact, international socializm (as a "transitional stage in a movement to communism and peace in all over the world!" (c) old schoolbook ) ;D
I.e., almost a "blood brother" of "national socialism".
So, you can understand, that the party functioners of communist party didn't like the therm "nasizm" not only because of it's real meaning. :D That's why in Soviet Union was created therm "faschism". BTW, in serious historical litherature about Great Patriotic War therm "nasizm" is much more spreaded then a "faschism", last one considered as simplified.

OK, I get the idea and, now that you explained it, it makes sense that they'd pick "fascism" over "naziism". Besides, basically they're all the same - a dictator or an oligarchy with absolute power over everyone else and abusing it frequently.
