Recently, my favorites have been In time, truth or dare & dorian grey. I haven't watched your movies. I'll study that. For 7 psychopaths I think Farrell won't do better than phone booth.

As to farrell, this movie has a number of great actors & the story is soo good & funny, unlike his action flicks which I don't like.
The rarity of  recent entertaining action movies had me drawn to comedy.

Equilibrium was great. It imagines the world minus an important component of life (emotions), a plot that's very similar to 1984.

There are also Fahrenheit 451, the world without books.
Children of Men depicts the world without any more child births.

These movies & any good stories similar are a must watch. Thank god our reality is a bit better.  :)

Naahh.. that's not for me. I like action movies with plenty of shooting, or horror movies with ghosts and stuff like that. Also, plenty of sex, violence and gore.  :)

I haven't seen a worthwhile horror/thriller/action movie these past few years with a few exceptions.
For this I've turned to a bunch of tv shows that compensate such as (The walking dead, game of thrones, spartacus, arrow, breaking bad, etc..).

Here's a quick question: when you guys download movies, do you watch them on your computer or on your TV? If you watch them on your TV, what method do you use? In my case if I want to see a video on the TV, you can right click the file and play on the TV, and it's all through LAN - there is no HDMI connection to the TV.

lately the best movie I've watched is probably dorian gray. I read its the unique novel of oscar wilde.
Recently I visited him to the pere lachaise. The glass barrier has been erected to withstand the riots of its fans. I would dream of having such a tomb, though Im wondering if this Egyptian style is adapted to oscar wilde:

I watch everything on my laptop.. even though I have an hdtv + the cable..

I downloaded the Dorian Gray movie as soon as you recommended the book.. Will watch it soon.. Reading literature is not my thing, non-fiction is much more enjoyable, preferably self-help, thought, history and such.  I've heard a lot about Alphonso De Lamartine lately, especially his work (History of Turkey). Will probably read that or at least skim through it.

Latest movies I've seen:

Man of Steel, Iron Man 3, and The Croods at the theaters.. 3D is an amazing experience. Once in a lifetime at least - a must.
Assault on Wallstreet - A good movie but the violence is just horribly too much?
Olympus has Fallen & White House Down - unrealistic & insulting to the viewers intellect.
They Live (1989 I think) a great movie very symbolic, a lot of lines from the movie were plagiarized in a certain pc game.
Evil Dead - Not bad.

Will check them out sometime later..

This movie is very disturbing & tragic. Elijah Wood was better off making hobbit movies!

Hey Scarface! I noticed the .mkv movie files on your PC. Do you watch the movies on your computer or on your TV? I'm asking because in my case, the movies I've downloaded that can be viewed on the TV from a flashdrive are .mp4 (X264), .avi or .aac. The TV won't play .mkv unless I convert it first. Other than a short clip, I much prefer to sit back and watch on the TV.

Since these files are Blu-Ray rips, I was going to ask how would you burn them to a BD. I'm seeing Burnaware also does this. I just checked and it was ready to burn one of my files to a BD disk, I just don't have one - nor a Blu-Ray burner either.  :)

I have no TV, its keeping me from becoming grumpy and silly and no dvd drive nor bluray drive (so I watched movies on my laptop, I don't do it any longer because I don't have the time). I just store them on a usb key. there is no difference between mkv & mp4 they are just containers.

to aa1234779: try "truth or dare", "the moth diaries" or "claustrofobia" (dutch). you shouldn't be disappointed. if you want a french movie, try le chomeur de clochemerle (1957), though I'm not sure you'll find subtitles.

aa1234779 that can't hurt a fly doesn't enjoy violence at all. A horror or action movie that is great has to be realistic, so the violence just comes with the package, not a joy in its self.

BTW, the " les aventures de rabbi jacob" was quite funny..

I know aa1234779 is mystic, I couldn't recommend a violent movie. There are scenes of violence, but overall the movie is great. Watch It and tell me.

Against cruelty - humane maybe but not mystic whatever you mean by it :D
I can watch anything but there is no point in seeking out violent entertainment.. I watch the walking dead regularly because it's entertaining not because it's violent..
As to the movie.. The photography is amazing especially the seen of the hair transitioning into hay fields.. that was amazing..
The story is awkward & paranormal twists usually come with plot holes making them hard to comprehend..

I disagree. A movie is simply a movie and nothing more. I love movies with plenty of explicit sex and graphic violence. I also love those spooky movies with ghosts, demons and people getting killed.

Remember it's just a movie. In real life I'd never dream of engaging in any kind of violence. Explicit sex.... probably.  :)

Lately I've watched the movie "Madrid 1987" but I don't know what to think. Will the coy Angela come back or will she refuse to see again the elderly writer?

Besides "Family guy" & "vikings", this is not my taste.. It's the mainstream stuff that's top-seeded & highly-rated, and many times hyped & boring.. This is why I'm open to suggestions..

Don't you hate that 2.35:1 aspect ratio some of those movies use and the letterbox image on your TV? Clearly this is to appease the movie theaters. Movie theaters are another technology on the way out. Good riddance!

I keep them on an external hd to watch whenever I find the time.. Last hd I stocked up took more than a year for me to finish them, not to mention the movies that are unworthy of being watched.. This is the benefit of unlimited bandwidth..  :)

I just got used to the format these torrents are released in as long as it's at least 720p & the video isn't compressed too much.
How are theaters on the way out? As far as I know, Hollywood is still making hundreds of billions from the business.

Sure enough, there are many movies out there that aren't worth the HD space. As for downloading all of them only because you have the bandwidth to do so, does having ample supplies of water mean you're going to drink 100 liters every or what?

As for the movies, let me clarify. Certainly Hollywood makes billions and will continue doing so. It's their distribution method that will change. It's analogous to what's happening to brick-and-mortar music stores or to businesses such as Blockbuster video where you physically have to go get a DVD to play. With faster bandwidth becoming more and more ubiquitous, more and more people will download movies. Since policing this will not work, Hollywood will do what the music industry did - "legalize" downloading by charging people an affordable price. Also, just a few days ago on the news it said the movie theaters are dropping their prices - attendance is dropping and fewer and fewer people are willing to pay the outrageous fees they charge.

Mark my words.

Just finished watching The Square (Documentary).. It tells the story of post-2011 Egypt from a revolutionary point-of-view.. Amazing film..

Scarface, et al. -> Many movies I download were filmed in the detestable 21:9± aspect ratio, which means when I play them on my 16:9 TV I get those disgusting black bars on the top and bottom. You can try to reencode with handbrake, and put your own height/width or one parameter only with the "keep aspect ratio". There Is also the anamorphic option but its difficult.
You should read the handbrake settings topic and perhaps talk to Ahmad, he's undoubtedly the real specialist for this.

I wasn't aware that Ahmad was the expert on this. Since this is a public post, hopefully he'll read this and enlighten me.

I've been reading a little about this. What I'm trying to do is called "pan & scan". This involves cropping out a small amount of the edges on both sides (hopefully the least important) resulting in that the aspect ratio is reduced to 16:9. I installed Handbrake once but I didn't see any way to do this.

Any ideas?

I'm not that expert about that.

I never need to change the aspect ratio when encoding a video because it deteriorate the picture. Also I scarcely need to convert videos.

But you can use any program, like handbrake as scarface said, and write the width and height manually.
Also, you need to convert to a format that your TV will understand. I don't know if handbrake converts to a format other than h264 or not.

I tried a program before and it was sufficient for any kind of converting..
Its name is Format Factory (http://www.pcfreetime.com/).

The reason I'm trying to crop the edges of a 2:35:1 movie down to 16:9 is precisely to get rid of those horrendous black bars at the top and bottom of the TV screen. It's true that some of the edges need to be cropped out, but going from 21:9 to 16:9 isn't that bad. The real deterioration involves cropping it down to 4:3 to fill those ancient square TV's. The TV supports h.264 AVC mp4 files - there are some I get from Yify that won't play on the TV (all will play on the computer). I've been told it's probably some codec in the mp4 container the TV doesn't like. I can make it work by using Ultra Video Joiner to "convert" it to the supported format, but UVJ won't make it come out as 16:9. I'm doing all this because I hate watching movies on the computer, that's what the TV is for.

@Shadow -> When I used to rip DVD's, I used Slysoft's AnyDVD combined with CloneDVD. AnyDVD destroys the copy protection and any region code while the other one copies or converts. It worked great. You might want to check it out.

I want to say that I prefer Mediacoder than Format Factory in quality and customizations..

Format Factory is just more simple and every one can understand it easily, yet it has a worse AAC encoding quality than Mediacoder.

So, In the case of your TV (MP4, H264 encoding), I think scarface's recommendation about Mediacoder is better.

Thanks for the tip. I downloaded Mediacoder and I'll check it out later on. FF didn't do what I wanted. Despite the fact that my player identified the file as 1920×1080, the black bars were still there, it's as if FF believes they're part of the movie.

I just tested Mediacoder and it worked - it successfully cropped a 2.35:1 movie down to 16:9. What surprised me was that the output file was 664 MB, and yet the input file was 1.25 GB. All other converters made the file much larger than the original. Since I'm a newbie at all this, I'm wondering if this is the program or that my settings are off.

Size becomes smaller may be due to one of the following reasons:

1-) The resolution produced is much smaller than the original ..

Example in your case..
If the original video resolution was 1692x720 and you cropped it to 1280x720
This will lessen the total size of the video.
Note that the produced size will be much smaller if you cropped the video to a resolution much lower then 1280x720 .. for example: If you cropped it to 740x360 instead of 1280x720 , the size will be nearly the half.

2-) Also the value of the bit rate plays an important role ..

If the original resolution and the produced resolution are the same, but the bit rate becomes the half, in this case also the size of the video will be nearly the half.

I think those are the most important controllers of the video size.

Indeed, but I disagree with your calculation.
If You switch from 1280x720 to 1280x360, You should have half the size, unless Im wrong, then less with your example.
I dont know if You include the blacks bars or not in the format anyway, they take less space.

As for that site, IDM will download the movie for you, but only at 360p maximum. Clearly it's meant for watching on the computer. I HATE watching moves on the computer, that's what the TV is for.

Tonight, I'm going to present a new movie, titled 'Exam'. This British movie was released in 2009.
The story seems simple: The film is set in present-time United Kingdom in an alternate history. Eight candidates dress for what appears to be an employment assessment exam. They enter a room and sit down at individual desks. Each desk contains a paper with the word "candidate", followed by a number, from one to eight. The Invigilator, a representative of the company named DATAPREV, explains that the exam takes 80 minutes and consists of one question only, and that there are three rules: they must not talk to the Invigilator or the armed guard at the door, spoil their paper, or leave the room. Not obeying the rules will result in disqualification.
With such a plot, the movie is gripping from the beginning and the rest of the film make us wonder what is going to happen to the candidates.
Like the cube movies trilogy, there is always a troubling atmosphere and every single minute, it gets more suspenseful and engaging. it really gets you to think what is the question, which is so painfully obvious once you realise what is the question.

The reviews on 'Exam' were excellent so I decided to download the torrent and take a look at it.

1408 is an awesome movie. I saw it about a year ago. BTW, as for those ages per country you posted, since when do we pirates follow rules such as this? Just download the movie and to hell with everything else.

I didn't see 187, but I do agree that the educational system in this country is decrepit. It's one more way the oligarchy that governs this country stays in power - they make sure the people are kept ignorant and obedient.

And speaking of movies, check out "The Interview". It's the one you've been reading about in the news. The one Kim Jong-Un declared and "act of war" and subsequently tried to hack Sony and threaten movie theaters who show it. This dictator doesn't seem to understand that all he's doing is putting money in Sony's bank account, not to mention giving the movie such a massive amount of publicity Sony couldn't achieve no matter how much they paid their advertizers. To give you an idea, when I did a torrent search and found it, it had almost 26000 seeds and peers. In all the time I've been torrenting, never have I seen that number so high. And not just Americans - people from everywhere wanted it.

Remember this movie is a satire, and satires by their nature are exaggerated and don't exactly reflect how things are in real life.

I must tell vasudev that I didn't like the movie 'Now you see me'. In fact a coworker brought his hdd filled with 1To of mkv in bluray and I had the opportunity to take him a few movies, but most of them were american, brainless and finally bad. I wouldn't have watched it otherwise.
And this movie made no exception.
The plot was farfetched and despite a promising opening sequence, the movie was utterly lacking intellectual integrity. The explanations for the unbelievable twists were hardly expedient.

Sorry scarface I liked the movie on the basis of magic techniques & twists in the movie. Yes the story was the bottom-line.

In France movies are rated 12+, 16+ or 18+. The latter is usually reserved for horror movies or pornographic movies. But most of the time French movies are rated "for all audience" even when the rating 12+ could be seen as obvious. I watched turn me on dammnit and the plot had many twists and turns. I'd say Alma and her mom made the story quite interesting. At first I thought it was all about *you know what I'm saying* **Ahem**. It was very good movie. The climax was very interesting though when her mom refused her request very strictly.

Today, I received a disquieting message of aa1234779, who suffers from a terrible illness. Unfortunately, there is no available doctor in the Middle East (unless you are a sheik I assume). Well, if you have drugs, or if you're a doctor, maybe you can contact him.
It's the same thing in the United States anyway. I had an acquaintance over there who was 62. He had big dental problems (I think he needed a bridge. But it was too expensive: he had too pay 25000$. So he went to Bogota. But he fell in the coma and died over there (bad food?). Well, he was still working 50 hours a week, and he was indebted since he still had a mortgage. Maybe he's lucky after all. He would have probably worked till 80).

And since you used quotation marks, I guess you were not a real uber but a kind of "gypsy cab". In here those who are working for Uber are regularly protesting in the airports. It seems a cabbie's pay doesn't compensate for the backache.

But this is going to change. Failing to find new renewable energies, and after thorough testing, Chinese engineers found a new way to prompt people to get up earlier and be more productive. For this experiment, they chose the laziest worker and the outcome was a real success.
Once awake, no doubt this worker will go fruit-picking or harvesting in the fields.

I was doing around 40 hours a week for a few months & had planned to continue, yet it was unfortunate that my spinal disc and sciatica on both sides of the hip kills the joy of making cash & meeting a few social people every now & then. Not to mention wearing out my only precious vehicle.

Being a bit over-weight (not obese) + 40 hours weekly driving + very unhealthy car seat = lots and lots of pain while driving and when resting because of all the pressure on the spine.

Well you have to know that I won't keep the messages about Xmen apocalyspe though, I will delete them in a few days. This movie was bad. It's an euphemism. So once the link is dead I won't make a new one (and I have no more space on my mega account). I hadn't watched the movie before making the rip (out of a downloaded Bluray) and uploading it to the forum. But I should have been more cautious. Unfortunately most of the time, the movies with Jennifer Lawrence are taking part in deadening people's mind.

X-Men first class was probably the best of the series. And apocalypse is maybe the worst one to date.
The main scoundrel's motivation was bland (killing everyone to become the master of the world).
The way he "persuades" other mutants to join him is a nonsense - he basically just offers to increase a mutant's power and in return demands help to kill billions of people. Sounds like a fair deal. Like, Magneto gains the power to control pretty much all the metal on the planet at once, while Psylocke gains another special effect on her CGI laser beams or whatever it is that she emits. Apocalypse's abilities in general are largely undefined - at times he is shown pulling matter from objects around him to construct something, and then in the next shot he just makes solid objects like armor out of thin air. Another ridiculous thing was that they tried to make Isaac more intimidating by giving him thick soles so that he'd look taller, which is noticeable. What is more, his lines are cringe-worthy, but the problem is, so are everyone else's.

I think it was 720por 1080p. Damn good quality like Revenant you posted at Mega. My friends were spellbound after seeing the BDrip of Revanant and vowed never to touch DVDRip.

But the movie is filled with symbols, and if you don't pay attention, if you don't understand the symbols that punctuate this movie, it can become dull very quickly.
If you watched it, I advise you to read my interpretation below.

Interpretation of the movie.
Sarah morton is an embittered and jaded woman who will relearn how to live through an intellectual and fantasy experience.
At the end of the movie, we are disturbed by the arrival of the publisher's daughter Julia and the mixture of the two images of Julie and Julia in the imagination of Sarah. This indicates that Julie and Julia are in fact the same person, one being the illustration of reality: a banal young girl with an ungrateful face and the other the representation of fantasy: a young woman with a dream body. This shows us that we have just looked at a story that we thought was real while we were immersed in the imagination of Sarah Morton: we observed elements and drew a false conclusion: the story that is happening is different from the reality: one of the themes is therefore the difference between what we believe to be the truth and the reality.
This difference is due to our interpretation influenced by our way of functioning and our fantasies. Yes. Sometimes banal movies have a deeper meaning. That's the case with Swimming pool. That's the case with Fight club too. The movie is violent, but if you scratch the surface, it is calling into question a society based on efficiency and individualism.

By the way, here is an interesting review that I found about Fight Club:
The narrator's shifting from himself into Tyler Durden was a bit of a profundity because, when he was Tyler, he spoke with confidence and people followed. He was a bit like Jesus in the way he was charismatic.
Look at it this way, the Narrator (We'll call him Jack since that's who he is in the book) is always answering to someone. Jack doesn't have any real lust for life. He seeks answers but doesn't seem to find anything other than the superficial. It's bothering him. Jack can't sleep because he's never had a truly spiritual experience. Then, when he's Tyler, he confirms this because when he's Tyler, he says this:
"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. Juxtapose that against what he said to Jack in the bar over three pitchers of beer which means that Jack had three pitchers of beer and discussed this entire thing with himself.
"We are consumers. We're the by-products of a lifestyle obsession."
The problem is that Jack is lifestyle obsessed. I mean he is absolutely consumed by it. He even states that he was nearly complete. What does that even mean.

Then Tyler starts to manifest. Just look at the guy. It's really obvious he doesn't give two shits what you or I would think of him. He dresses how he wants when he wants and isn't bothered by what anyone may think of him. He lives in a house that, by all rights, should be condemned. He's on the bottom, rock bottom and he doesn't give a ****. He's not a consumer. He's the kind of guy who doesn't give a **** about the latest cologne. He's Jack's exact polar opposite. Jack feels ineffectual, Tyler is charismatic and takes charge. Jack doesn't seem to have a lot of luck with the ladies, Tyler is into sport-*******. Jack is lying to police about his apartment, Tyler would be more than happy to tell the cops, " **** you guys I blew it up because I just couldn't take the soul-rending bullshit of being almost complete anymore."

Tyler amasses a following and Fight Club morphs into Project Mayhem because, in Tyler's Mind, these people want to be led to Tyler's promised land. There's adventure and wonder there. There's danger. There's the ability to be shaken up the core. Tyler has found a need. People no longer want to be chained to that nine to five where they have no incentive to pursue their dreams, these people that follow Tyler want to be anarchistic in their freedom. They want to answer to no one. They want what Tyler has. They don't want masters but they don't know how to get there so, for now, they accept Tyler as their master, knowing that, at some point, they'll be required to get from Point A to Point B on their own spiritually.

I haven't seen the movie but I do know the situation with epidemics is not as bad as it seems, and improving. Back in the 1980's HIV was a death sentence. Today that's no longer the case. A few years ago we were helpless against ebola. There are now vaccines and better methods of treatment. Cases or ebola are down, survivorship is up. Despite the fact that both your father and mine died of cancer, even there survivorship is much higher than it used to be, and slowly increasing as time passes. Some 12 years ago I survived cancer. If it had been 20 years earlier I would not be posting this message today.

Concerning diseases spread by mosquitoes, I'm a bit pessimistic, because the effects of climate change will allow some species to go where they were not able to go before. Before 2008 there was no tiger mosquito in France.
For example, I was in the South of France this summer (actually somewhere between Lyon and Marseille), and I stumbled upon a tiger mosquito (I killed him so I was able to check that). I had never seen one before. some users of the forum like you, Maher or Vasudev probably know it already. They need warm climates but they are unable to live in the desert. With warmer Winters, they are rapidly spreading to Northern Europe and Northern America.

The Tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is native to southeast Asia and is an invasive specie everywhere else. We all know what happens when a specie is inadvertently introduced to a place where it doesn't belong. History is rife with examples. Either way, I wouldn't be as pessimistic as you are. You know what happened to Ferdinand de Lesseps when he attempted to build the Panama Canal. Eventually the problem was solved and yellow fever eradicated. I've been to Panama twice and haven't seen a single mosquito. An even better example is South Florida. The Everglades are arguably the most mosquito-infested area in the world. It can't be sprayed because it would have an negative effect on the delicate environment. Despite this, the human population continues to grow and thrive.

it's a sci-fi thriller about an alien invasion with much originality, great acting, and lots of action.

They're all good movies worth watching by my standards.

BTW I watch only good movies to say the least, if not great all the time.
Maybe later I'll write something about the criteria I stick to on watching films & series.
Because we all have a lot of things to be busy with in our lives and don't have the time to watch something we might consider as "Not worth the 90-120 minutes or so" of our lives.

That's true. But when you are looking for subtlety, it's pretty difficult to find good American movies. They are aimed at the general public and therefore they usually lack refinement. Some are made only to entertain, like Predator or Commando, there is practically no plot: the villain shoots, the nice guy shoots, and you have to see what happens.
But it's totally voluntary: with an IQ of 40 it's possible to understand the movie. And to watch the sequel, it's only necessary to remind you that the bad guy was killed at the end of the 1st movie.

Those who watched it a few years ago must be wondering why I didn't choose a better movie for the users of forum. Actually, there are already many good movies on the forum, and I must say I couldn't think of any other movies tonight. In my opinion, this is an entertaining movie, a one-time watch.

The Hitchcock influence is pretty obvious and the pacing of the film is just right. This is probably not the best movie of director Schumacher, who also made the movie Falling down. The lead could have been played by any yuppie looking actor but Colin Farrell does a good job anyway in a role that puts you in his character's place.

After all, maybe Vasudev hasn't watched this movie yet. It might be the case for shadow.97 or usman too, since this quite an old movie. And I want to warn you about this movie, If you are to watch it. Because it portrays a city filled with starving orphans, wretched slums and poor people abandoned on the streets, at a time when the fortunate ones were rescued by Mother Teresa.
There are certainly many poor people in Kolkata, but they are perhaps even more numerous in San Francisco or in Paris nowadays. And in India, half of Mumbai residents live in slums, far more than in Kolkata (or Calculatta?).
Besides, there is no mention in the movie of Calcutta’s beautiful buildings and educated middle class, or its history of religious tolerance and its vibrant literary and cultural life.

Well, I don't. The one above is only 480p and yet the quality is fairly good. If you remember the old "Dvdrip movies", you can consider the quality of 480p movies is already awesome.

Today, I'm going to do a review of Terminator dark fate since I finally watched it.

Reviews were mixed and I'm glad I didn't go to the theater to watch it.
Dark Fate is sadly another bad terminator flick. It is not only a blisteringly dark fate for this once storied franchise, but it also in many ways captures the dark fate of America’s mindless capitalism, a society in thrall to meaninglessly regurgitated pop culture symbols stripped of all that once made them great and then smashed out in great dithering waves to please the public

Terminator Dark Fate is putrid, insulting garbage. It was always probably destined to be that way, given what the last three films in the franchise were, and considering that most franchises are doomed to diminishing returns over time. And yet, foolishly, in some corners of the world where men are beasts and beasts are just the remnants of God’s light, hope endured. Hope that with James Cameron and Linda Hamilton returning to the project, it might be good.

But sometimes hope is just another fool’s delusion. And so it was. The first indication that this movie was going to be bad was that David S. Goyer wrote it. If we are being charitable, we might say that Goyer has contributed to some films that were good in the past. But his most recent credit was as the screenwriter for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, not just one of the worst super hero movies ever made, but truly a mark against human progress that a group of people, collectively, could have all looked at that script at any stage in the production process and believed that it deserved to be made into a movie. The other sign of trouble was the presence of Arnold Schwarzenegger in it.
But now Arnold is old. He is no longer an embodiment of unstoppable antagonist inertia. He has been, quite visibly, slowed if not stopped by time. And de-aging him would have been a disaster. So there weren’t really any good options. But nobody wants to see old Terminator. It’s just… not something we want to see.

That was a puzzle the story was going to struggle to solve no matter what. But it still doesn’t excuse how shoddy the rest of the film’s structure is. This movie just takes the template from the first two films and re-uses it, full stop. Instead of John Connor, now we have some new and totally forgettable future leader of the resistance who needs to be saved and we have a new guardian from the future and a new terminator trying to get them. Literally the only change is that the new terminator is a combination of the old terminator but this time with a liquid metal exterior.

Finally, this movie takes everything that was so good about the first two terminator movies - the imagery, the narrative structure, the characters, the ideas - and just recycles them in a shameless money grab that assumes the audience will be too brain dead to realize what is being done to them. It is an insipid, garbage film unworthy of the pedigree.

Note that the movie Terminator Dark Fate was removed. It's so bad that neither the forum nor the users deserve such a movie.
Instead, it's is replaced with another movie (reposted), titled Jumper, and released in 2008
Maybe some of you have already watched this movie. Like Terminator dark fate, it does not require a lot of sagacity, but at least it will be an entertaining moment.

Theater? Are there still movie theaters? This is obsolete, 20th century technology. Movies are readily available for download online and can be watched in the privacy of your home without having to deal with crowds or paying expensive theater tickets. Last time I entered a theater was back in the late 20th century.

Morgan Spurlock reignites his battle with the food industry - this time from behind the register - as he opens his own fast food restaurant.

The most interesting segment of the movie occurs as the buzzwords and their meanings are discussed. Having "nutrition" broken down from a marketing perspective truly exposes the outright fraud being perpetrated on the public. "Health Halo" is the moniker applied to descriptions like "fresh", "all-natural", and "no added hormones". Even "crispy" is used in place of the more accurate "fried", which is obviously a word no consumer would associate with healthy food. Spurlock is in his element when providing a startling visual for what qualifies as "free range" according to the FDA.

'Big Chicken' is compared to 'Big Oil', as 5 corporations control 99% of the chicken farming industry: Tyson, Perdue, Pilgrims, Koch Foods, and Sanderson Farms. We get an explanation of how these corporations apply enormous pressure on the farmers, keeping them in a constant state of debt - or worse for farmer Jonathan Buttram who has been blackballed for helping Spurlock make this movie. Spurlock bounces from Columbus, Ohio to Boulder, Colorado to Tennessee to Kentucky to Washington, D.C, to Alabama; and from Chick-Fil-A to Wendy's to 7-11 to Popeye's, and even to McDonalds - Spurlock's first visit in 12 years to the establishment that put him on the movie map.

Very little new information is provided here, but Spurlock does what he does best - entertain with examples of extremes. While his "fried grilled" chicken sandwich is a publicity stunt, the real story is how menus and labels are used to manipulate the consumer, many who don't seem to much care.

Seeing that you seem to be quite into movies, are you also into books?

I've been trying to force myself to read more. It's not going well. I need to increase my reading comprehension to learn to take in information in a more effective way.

I picked up 'Before the coffee gets cold' yesterday and started reading.
After 14 pages. Including white pages, I had to recap multiple times to make sure I wasnt missing important details.
I also keep zoning out and having to re-read pages due to that. It does get tiring. But I need it.


If any members are avid book readers with information I could see a need for a new topic to be created. For now I feel it's OK to be here, as many times books and movies go hand-in-hand.

For A Few Dollars More is it not an American movie but an international co-production among Italy, West Germany, and Spain. It was shot in Spain, and released in 1965 in Italy, with the original title "Per qualche dollaro in più", and the film was only released in 1967 in the United States with the title "For A Few Dollars More".
This movie was a real success, and after its release, the profession of bounty hunter became the choice of occupation of Spaghetti Western heroes in films like Arizona Colt, Vengeance Is Mine, Ten Thousand Dollars for a Massacre, The Ugly Ones, Dead Men Don't Count and Any Gun Can Play.

Disclosure is a well-acted and thoughtful film that could easily have been a play but does a lot with its single location and minuscule cast and budget. It deals with a single afternoon in which two couples clash in increasingly ugly ways over an accusation made by one of their children against another.

I have to say that the movie was pretty good despite a spooky concept (the imaginary friend). If you are looking for an entertaining movie, then watch Z.

For some reason it refused to play on Firefox, so I brought up Iron (Chromium based copy of Google Chrome without tracking - highly recommended) and it played. Some sites prefer Chromium browers and some prefer Firefox. Why, I don't know - my addons are the same ones.

Unfortunately the highest available resolution for Z is 720p. I searched all the torrent sites and couldn't find it in 1080p, let alone 4K. The strange thing is that all kinds of movies can be found in 1080p, but not this one. Must not be very popular in the torrent community. I hate watching movies on the computer and my 2 TV's are 4K, which is why I'm looking for at least 1080p.

I watched this movie in the early 90's and at this time I remember I had been very scared.

I am convinced that the movie theater is another old technology that is headed for extinction. Every day that passes getting the latest movies becomes easier while large TV screen gets cheaper and more ubiquitous.

In the US, the handoffs from French called gallicisms are probably pretty rare, but as I wrote in a previous message on the forum, anglicisms are unfortunately more and more common in French. For example, a few days ago I stumbled upon an article of le Monde titled "La valorisation de la recherche doit être remise en haut de l’agenda politique et scientifique". The problem is that "agenda politique" is borrowed from the English expression political agenda, and it doesn't mean anything. In French the word "agenda" means calendar, or schedule in a figurative sense, but it doesn't mean program.
However, it would have been correct to use the expression "être au programme politique (to be on the political program).

Yes but it's not very popular.
One of the reasons the US-style Halloween celebration hasn't quite taken off in France is simply because it's too American. This alone has led much of French society to turn their nose up at the holiday. This past Halloween I didn't even buy candy. Nobody knocked on my the door. This wasn't the case in past years.

I'm not too sure exactly how Halloween relates to the Celts, but I'm pretty sure the idea of dressing up and collecting candy did not start with them. I'm not even sure if it was the Americans who started it. From what I'm seeing Halloween is worldwide with the exception of totalitarian regimes such as North Korea. A few years ago I was in Colombia on the night of Oct 31st and there where children in the street going door to door collecting candy.

Commercialized? Absolutely!! Anything to make a dollar. Money is the one true god.

Ever wonder why it's celebrated on December 25th? Missionaries were trying to impose their religion on Druids and others who lived in the far north. After an initial stage of ambivalence and hesitation, I finally decided to put a link for this movie on the forum. There is no doubt humbert and aa1234779 will enjoy this film.
My opinion: In the first 20 minutes of the movie, the predicament of the young student induces a state of queasy anticipation. The scenes with a world of lurid colors are intertwined with darker scenes. The viewers of the forum will certainly notice the stark contrast between the young student and the elderly customers.

The story:
Laura D. is a modern language student at a Paris university who desperately wants to do well in school. She works a part-time job but cannot make ends meet. One evening in which she is short of funds, she answers a personal ad online by "Joe," 57, who seeks a female student for "tender moments." The pay is 100 euros per hour. Laura pledges to do this just once, and three days later, she goes to a hotel room with Joe. And then the spiral begins.

They don't necessarily have to be Blu-Ray. On http://yts.mx (http://yts.mx/) (my favorite movie download site), the majority of movies are WebRips. I have a 4k TV and it's easier to upconvert 1080p, which is why I'm asking for them. I've seen movies on that site as old as the 1930's upconverted to 1080p. I don't know how they do it.

BTW, 4k is rapidly becoming the standard. 8k will soon follow. Today even cheap TV's are available in 4K.

The previous ones were encoded with the x264 codec. Those ones are encoded with the new x265 codec. They are smaller in size and yet the picture quality is better. In fact h.265 can deliver similar quality at 2/3 to 1/2 the bitrate of h.264. But it's not very popular because it takes much more CPU power to encode and decode. What's more if most new devices support both, older devices do not support h.265.

Today, another movie titled « Les sous-doués passent le bac » or the Under-Gifted, and released in 1980 is available on the forum. It's a funny movie and I chose it because I know that humbert, Vasudev, aa1234779 and Guliver are going to enjoy it.

I'm glad to see that humbert is making huge progress in learning French. Usually one is wondering how to pronounce the words of a language when one is already able to speak it.
When I was young I was already reading some books in English (such as the remains of the day), but I had a terrible accent because the English language is not always logical. Let's take the example of the word "country": I was pronouncing "coontry" instead of "contry". This word is derived from the French substantive "contrée" (which means land, region...but not country) and the pronunciation is actually pretty close, but you see that in English the word is spelled with "ou" and in French "ou" is pronounced "oo" as in the word "cool" (note that in Spanish they don't use "ou" but just "u"). As for the letter "u" in French you don't pronounce it "ou" but as in the name "Hulk".

After this little digression, let's go back to the question of humbert. I guess Maher, iih and Gulliver are also waiting for answers.
Actually there are 3 types of accent in French.
We are going to see the use of these accents on the letter "e" essentially. But you have to know that when a word ends with the letter e, you don't pronounce it, as in the words bouteille (bottle), table (table), immeuble (building). If you want to have a different sound, you need to use an accent.

Let's begin with the acute accent (é), which is the most common.
Basically, you are pronouncing "é" as you would pronounce the last "e" of "siempre" in Spanish.
Many verbs in the past participle ends with "é". If we take the word "dégradé", it's the past participle of the verb "dégrader". Like in English, you can use the past participle of a verb as an adjective.
Note that in the infinitive, dégrader and dégradé have the same pronunciation (if you see a word ending with "er", you have to pronunce it "é". In Spanish you pronounce the r in the word "comer", but it's not the case in French for the verbs accepter, abandonner, marcher manger...

Now let's see the grave accent (è). it is also placed over the e but can also be used over other vowels. It only changes the sound over the e, however. This accent points upward towards the left, so is like the opposite of the acute accent. It produces an "ehh" sound like that in set or get. An example of the use of the grave accented e can be found in "très" (very) or "chèvre" (goat).

Finally, let's see the circumflex Accent (ê). It can sit on top of any of the vowels a, e, i, o and u. It has three functions.
Firstly, according to certain French language rules, it can change the pronunciation of the vowels a, u and o but never of e and i. 
Secondly, it is used to show where another letter once existed in the Latin word the French word is derived from. For example, the French words "forêt", "hôpital", or "crête" were written forest, ospital or crest in the Middle Ages. The English language kept the old form with the s. The word hôpital used to have a "silent" s. It indeed comes from the word "hospitalia" in Latin, which gave "ospital" in old French. The "s" became silent in the 11th century and was replaced with ^. Some words of the same family, such as "hospitalisation" (this time the s is not silent), came after the 11th century and took the original Latin word as a template.
Thirdly, the circumflex is used to distinguish one word from another that is spelt the same way but pronounced differently. An example would be "sur", meaning on, versus "sûr", meaning sure (actually I found this explanation but I would pronounce them the same way). However, in some words the circumflex has no known function.

You have forgotten the umlaut (ë), but I can talk about it here.
It is very similar to the German umlaut, and is formed by two dots that are placed over the second of two consecutive vowels. It is to show that the vowels are sounded separately, for example, it is used in coïncidence (ko-ehn-see-dahns), which in English means coincidence.

Scarface: Thanks for taking the time to explain the difference between the different types of accents used in French. It's a little hard to understand. Later when I'm less tired I'm going to read it more carefully.

I also heard that the letter (e) at the end of a word is always silent unless it has an acute accent (é). Is all this true?

You can find it on a few words: Noël,canoë,Israël...
Actually you could probably replace the ë with è, it wouldn't change the pronunciation of these words (Basically you pronounce them like this : Noèl, canoé, Israèl).
However you can find it on the "i" of many words, meaning that you have to pronounce a or o and i separately, as in celluloïd, haïr, laïque, païen, coïncidence, maïs, baïonnette, coïnculpé, hébraïque, mosaïque, paranoïa, héroïne, naïade, polaroïd, égoïne, héroïque, naïf, stoïcisme, camaïeu, faïence, inouï, troïka, Caraïbes, glaïeul, laïque, ouïe, Zaïre.
The 2 letters "ai" are normally pronounced "é" or è, and the rule is roughly the same in English (liaison, aimless). In fact, the French language is more logical than English because Zaïre, which is spellt Zaire in English (with the same pronunciation), is not pronounced "Zère".

This sound can appear in English with the letters "a" or "e", for example in the sentence "a trip to the North Pole" but the a is then pronounced differently between 2 consonants, which is not logical (the a of "Japan and "take" is pronounced differently whereas it appears both times on the first syllable and between two consonants).

Note that I encoded the bluray of the movie "the cow and I", known as "la vache et le prisonnier", in x265 with burned-in subtitles, but after looking at the results, the picture is sometimes "noisy". Maybe it's due to the fact the the movie was released in 1959. However, I think it wasn't the case with the DVD edition. I'm trying to encode it a second time with strong denoise settings. I'd go as far as to say ANY language is more logical than English. The spoken language is OK, the problem is how you write it. Even then, a campaign to make it more phonetic is bound to fail. Why? As you know, in Spanish there is the Real Academia de la Lengua Española in Madrid. They write the dictionaries and keep the language updated. All this is then forwarded to the 20+ countries where Spanish predominates. English has nothing like that. British English and American English have different spellings. Not even in England is English the official language! The USA has no official language either, at least not federally. You can pretty much write it any way you want. BTW and before you mention it, I believe there is an equivalent of the Academia in Paris, for French obviously.

Their epic journey takes weeks, during which the two meet many people, some sympathetic and some not. They get into many situations, some dangerous and some hilarious. For example, on a narrow pontoon bridge over the Danube, Marguerite will not budge when a company of German soldiers tries to cross.
Reaching Stuttgart, Bailly has to part from Marguerite and jumps on a train. At its first stop in France, he gets off but is challenged by French police. To escape them he jumps on another train, which viewers can see is heading for Stuttgart.

For the anecdote, Karin Schubert, the queen in the movie, came out of nowhere and sailed high into an international career opposite Richard Burton, Yves Montand and another tragic blonde star, Dalida. She gave fine performances in everything. After these successes, Schubert shocked audiences when she abruptly moved into hardcore sex films in 1985 before vanishing from the public eye without a trace a decade later. What the public didn't know was that Karin Schubert's segue into hardcore wasn't a capricious choice on her part. Her son, who was desperately addicted to drugs, had become so out of control that his mother became the target of his violent outbursts. Schubert left her career behind and fled to Spain initially before agreeing to pose for the hardcore pictorials to earn the money needed to get her son treatment. In 1994 she was placed under the care of a psychiatric hospital.

Hello everyone, today I'd like to present a movie as well. It is called "Life and Extraordinary Adventures of Private Ivan Chonkin", made in 1994 in a Czech/Russian/French/Italian/UK co-production. The screenplay was written by a czech playwright/actor/writer, but it's based on a satirical novel written by soviet dissident Vladimir Voinovich, which depicts the daily absurdities of the soviet regime and expresses strong anti-war sentiment. The movie is, at its heart, a comedy, and it ends on a more lighthearted note than the novel. A short description from IMDB reads:

Quote"Set in a small Ukrainian village during the outbreak of war with Germany in 1941, Private Chonkin, not overly endowed with intelligence, is left to guard a downed military aircraft. The story: After a famous author is rescued from a car crash by a fan of his novels, he comes to realize that the care he is receiving is only the beginning of a nightmare of captivity and abuse.

Analysis:
The most unsettling thing about "Misery" is that Annie seems to have no endgame. Almost from the beginning of the play, it's clear that nothing good can come from trapping a famous writer in her cabin for months, with the world searching for him and a sheriff occasionally knocking at her door.
Misery is rather a psychological thriller than a horror film. As such it does not feature the sheer number of jump scares, moments of violence, and high number of deaths as was a convention of other horror films in the nineties. Of course, Misery is still frightening; and I don't know if I would advise it to Vasudev.

Hey Scarface. I know you do some video editing and [I believe] use programs like handbrake. Is there any way to enlarge a video while limiting grainy pixelization to a minimum? I know this can be done with image files, but not sure about videos.

Some videos I have are almost the size of a postage stamp when put on a 4K screen.

Hi humbert,

In fact I used to do that, indeed. if you want to reencode a video, you have to know that re-encoding almost always results in some loss of quality. However, the loss can be barely noticeable if you use the right settings. I reencoded some videos using the x265 codec, to reduce the file size, since x265 can deliver similar visual quality to x264 at lower bitrates.  But enlarging  the video resolution is probably the worst thing you can do. Because your playback devices is probably much better at "upscaling" if needed. Likewise, increasing bitrates from a low bitrate source won't add any quality improvements, instead you're adding only more useless data which results in a larger file for no good reason.
Yet, if you still want to enlarge your video, you can load it in handbrake and then put the resolution limit and then check the "Allow upscaling" checkbox. In the example below I put a 720p video that could be re-encoded in 1080p.

Logic dictates that video quality will be compromised if you try to enlarge it. The idea is to enlarge and mimimize degredation.

Basically you're using handbrake to enlarge and re-encoding to x265? Is this just to save space? Can degredation be minimized if you use x264 assuming space is available? Remember that with today's drives, space is no longer the problem it used to be.

I never enlarged a video. However, I re-encoded some videos to save space.
x265 demonstrates superior compression performance compared to x264, with bitrate savings reaching up to 50% especially at the higher resolutions.
Therefore, with a 1080p video encoded in x264 at 3 or 4 Mbps, I re-encoded them in x265 at roughly 2,2 Mbps (vs 3 Mbps for the source video for example) or 2,5 Mbps (vs 3,5 Mbps or more for the source video). With the same resolution, the difference is not visually noticeable.
