Title: Media Players
Post by: aa1234779 on March 18, 2013, 02:36 AM
This is a list of the best free media players for windows that users could depend on IMO. They are in no particular order:

GOM:
http://www.gomlab.com/eng/

PotPlayer: Another good one.
http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PotPlayer

VLC:
http://www.videolan.org/

Media Player Classic:

KM Player (developers abused by too much ads):
http://www.kmplayer.com/

QQ Player (english transltion): Very light on resources.
http://www.qq-player.com/

Non-noobs that left WMP behind seem to focus on VLC & MPC while there are many others that are just as good or even better.

You're absolutely right about KMPlayer.

My best of them is PotPlayer .. Really it's fantastic.. It can play any media type even RM, MKV, OGV without any need to external filters ++ it's very light. :)

KMPlayer is also like PotPlayer but I began to dislike it recently. :(

GOM is very light but it can't play RM files with its internal codecs.

VLC is not user friendly [My opinion].

MPC is the lightest and it is similar to PotPlayer and KMPlayer in playing anything but lacks their advanced features.

What advanced features does MPC (not to be compared with Wimdows Media Plaer) lack that you need? I've tested a great many players and so far I haven't found anything better. For starters, I have no codecs installed on my system except those that come with Windows 8, and so far I have yet to see a file format this thing won't play.

I like MPC very much..
What I meant is that MPC features are in KMPlayer & PotPlayer on a large scale.. i.e.
Many options in the same option, or more customizable.

The most important thing I need is to increase brightness, contrast & saturation feature which has not ever worked with me in MPC.
I know it's present in MPC but I don't know why it's not working with me.

BTW, I'm working with KMPlayer as the main media player + MPC Portable [just in case].

To ahmad and Humbert: I only use vlc...but I cant believe you only use mpc which is completely outdated. At least use mpc-hc, its modern release. vlc can seem heavy but it doesnt need to be customized. If you use mpc and dont change to EVR or VMR9 in the options â€" playback â€" output, chances are you have pixelated and low quality video.

Of course I meant MPC-HC.
But unfortunately I can't use EVR nor VMR9 because of my old motherboard which supports only DirectX 7, and for that I'm setting Playback output to VMR7.

MPC-HC is not outdated by any means. I'm using the latest 64-bit version which came out just a few days ago. I like the fact that it's easy to configure and so far I have yet to find an audio or video format it will not render. It's also very lightweight and integrates flawlessly with Total Commander (my favorite do-all file manager). I used to use VLC but in the end I got rid of it and opted for MPC-HC. In fact, I have tested no less than 10 media players, and in my opinion, MPC-HC beats them all.

@humbert

In MPC - HC

How do I skip 5 seconds forward & backwards with the arrows like any other player?

Open MPC-HC.. From Tweaks panel, you can type 3 different jump distances (small, medium, large in ms), and then you can assign the key for every jump distance from Keys panel as shown in the pictures attached.

I've tested almost all media players, and believe me, MPC-HC is the best I've seen so far. In fact, I wasn't even aware you could adjust the jump distances with the arrow keys. Thanks for the tip, Ahmad!!

I downloaded splayer but didn't test it. I guess one reason is because some files were in Chinese and I couldn't read them. I've tested many others and I've yet to see anything better than MPC-HC.
