What's the big deal with Demonoid? There are a bunch of pirated torrent sites out there. Even not having an account on Demonoid, you can still get just about anything you want. There are sites I'm signed up on that I haven't visited in months, mostly for lack of time. I wouldn't pursue it any further if I were you.

I used to upload all my stuff there.
But I don't like it anymore, I even deleted my account :)

I can understand that you'd stop uploading stuff to Demonoid and even decide not to visit their site any more. What I don't understand is why would you cancel your account. If I have learned anything in life, it's that you should never burn a bridge -- unless, of course, you had a serious fight with one of their administrators or something of that nature.

Yes I had a fight.

Now I understand. Why anyone would act like an ******* toward their users is simply beyond my comprehension. Are you old enough to remember computer bulletin boards, when people set up boards at home and you called them using a modem and a telephone line? It was exactly the same way. There were nice sysops and some real assholes.

I imagined you as a young man. The era I refer to was from 1987 (when I bought my first computer) to about 1993 when the internet became mainstream and essentially ended the bulletin boards (all this makes me feel so
old). When the internet became mainstream, I remember there was no GUI (graphical user interface), what you saw when you called your ISP via modem and telephone line was a Unix command line. You had your account there with your directory, and the programs ran on
their machine, not yours. In a way it's sad, I even managed to learn Unix and now I forgot it since all you do today is click a mouse. There were no ads, no spam, only information, forums, and you could navigate to some sites that even had files for download (nothing like today, though). I even remember reading back in an early 1990's computer magazine that in the future with 32 bit computing on the horizon, you could read an incredible 4 gigs of memory, "a limitation you will never reach in your lifetime".
Trust me, knowing how fast computing technology moves, soon 32 bit will go the way of the horse and buggy it will be all 64-bit with 128 bit computing on the horizon. How much memory can such a system read? I think it's 2
128 bits. How many zeroes is that?

Toooooo much I guess :)
Demonoid is a mad site. I kind of forgot about it, when the site was down. I will check it out again..
Maher Abu,
Hey, I saw you the other day on Demonoid uploading your stuff. Cool so everyone can share. Let me ask you, did you and the Demonoid staff smoke the peace pipe or what? Whatever the reason, I'm glad to see you on there.
Salaam,

It wasn't me :)
A friend of mine here in qalqilia loves Demonoid too much! He asked me if it's okay to sign up with a user name looks like mine and upload my stuff there (he chose iMaher).
I told him no problem :) That's all.

I wish it was you, but I guess we'll deal with your friend and his contribution to Demonoid and the sharing community. Incidentally, how exactly did he get on? Did he get an invitation code from someone?

He will only upload my stuff from TPB, cause he's using my name there. So you can rest assured ;)

Believe it or not, Demonoid has switched gears and have set up an open registration policy. I saw this a few days ago when I logged on and I couldn't believe it. Come to think of it, you don't need to log in to leech files from them. All you need to do is subscribe to their RSS feed. Hmmm.. then again, in order to subscribe do have to log in as a member?

They open registrations for sometime (I think once a week). Now it's closed!
Maher- they are coming out w/ a new version of demonoid. The interface is actually very nice! I agree it can be a pain, but the newer version is fantastic and easy to use. It's currently a beta version, but is excellent. I enjoy demonoid ALOT now! -- is there another thread w/ other private torrent sites listed? If anyone would like a demonoid invite I can probably get them a code :)

Yes, I've noticed the new interface.
Hope it will be better than the old one.

Thank you in advance.
Ok.. I have two demonoid invite codes if anyone wants them. :D

Hmmm... last time I was on Demonoid they were talking about new software but I didn't see anything different. Let me log on there to see.
As for posting invitation codes, why do you think that's a good idea? The codes will be eaten up immediately but, even worse, I read that if the person you invited screws up, the inviter's account could be in trouble too. Naturally for somebody you know that's not a problem, but for someone you don't??
Just wondering.

I agree completely. We should trust each other out, no question about it. Sadly in this world we live in, there will always be bad apples who do nothing more than make life hard for honest people.
As for pasting codes here, I'm not sure what you mean. It's your site and you make the rules, you and not me decide whether or not codes can be posted in public. Naturally I fully respect whatever you decide. If a friend I trust (e.g., yourself) asked for an invitation code, for your safety and
to insure the code stays good, I'd send it to you privately.
@humb25 Thank you for your concern, but I am fully aware of possible repercussions and was my decision to post a couple of codes. I was making a nice gesture that you just crapped on. :(

It's not a matter of crapping on anything. My post was meant to bring attention to the fact that in this world there too are many bad apples who do nothing more than give the rest of us a bad name. I remember once my cousin asked me to get her an invitation code for Demonoid, which I did, and at the time I even remember reading on there something to the effect that if the person you gave the code to screwed up, your account would be in trouble too. Accordingly, my post was meant to alert you to this possibility.
Let me clarify that I am in no way upset at your post. I am by no means perfect and if someone disagrees with me, he (or she) is more than welcome to bring to my attention what they believe is my error. So thanks :)
Ollenberger, Humb didn't mean to upset you. I know him well.
He was just trying to protect your account on Demonoid.
Thanks both of you ;)

Thanks Maher. Your conclusion is right on target, plus the fact that I even left the door open for the possibility of me not having understood Ollenberger. Naturally that door is by no means closed.
All members that have codes are not allowed to provide codes to ANYONE. If you look at the Demonoid web site periodically you will see there are times where you can sign up and get a code. Just be patient.
Do something else...plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
mail me 1 Demonoid Invitation Code for me... do know ppl I'm waiting for 5years.

Sorry, been a way a while- been busy. I wasn't upset. Demonoid is pretty much these days just a semi-private torrent site. I mostly use iptorrents these days. Demonoid is good for ebooks though- especially coding and electrical engineering stuff.

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly do you mean by "iptorrents"?
its a private torrent site... iptorrents.com You actually have to keep up your upload ratio or you will be banned. It promotes uploading and sharing. The download speeds can be outrageously fast! That site does keep track of who you invite and associates you with them so I'm not willing to give an invite to a stranger. I was invited by a friend. Its a cool site because of its exclusiveness.

In all honesty I don't think I'd even be interested in joining a site like iptorrents.com -- based on what you said it's a little too elite for me. I guess I can understand that they demand that you upload stuff, but then again what gift do you give to a guy that has everything? Besides, I've noticed that on many sites I'm on, people will upload any garbage they can just to maintain their ratios. One thing I like about Demonoid is not so much that they're not all that picky on ratios although they do keep them, but that they'll count anything you download which is in turn seeded and re-uploaded. Add to this the fact that I leech only what I feel I need or could use, mostly apps and an e-book now and then.
I've never had a speed problem with any site, not even with as few a 1 or 2 seeders. I've noticed that just being a little patient, usually more seeders join in. Even if they don't, the proggie eventually comes to papa, just a tad more slowly.

I'm curious as to why you posted this publicly where any bad apple can pick it up and abuse it.
As far as I know, Demonoid won't ban you for having a bad ratio unless you really overdo it. Also, with Demonoid you don't necessarily have to upload anything, if you simply seed that you leech they'll count it towards your ratio. Some other sites not only don't do this, but they won't even let you upload unless one or several of the moderators approve it, and in the mean time your ratio is listed as horrendous. BTSoup is a good example, which is why I rarely visit their site.
hey thanks for ur valuable info...
