Windows 98?? Did you come out of a time warp or what? You just beat the XP'ers on the forum when it comes to being stuck in the past  :)  ;)  :D

Sure, we all yearn for the old days. I have many fond memories I'd love to relive, but sadly they're in the past. I used Windows 98 many years ago and it was a nightmare. Crashes and blue screens were constant. Also, keep in mind Windows 98 uses the DOS kernel, as opposed to the much more stable and modern NT kernel used by XP.

I'm assuming you have some very old hardware as well as all Windows 98 the driver disks. Forget about putting anything relatively new on your Win 98 system, it's been a while since anyone has even written a driver for it. Even Micro$haft stopped supporting it years ago.

I remember one lady put a sign on her wall in Facebook. It read, "Don't judge my by my past, I don't live there anymore".

I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong) that the Mac OS and Linux use either the same or at least a very similar kernel. Also, Linux is NOT garbage. It is, in fact, an extremely stable OS available in many different distros. The problem with these 2 OS' is not that they're lousy, but the fact that almost everything out there is written for Windows. And of course with a Mac, you're essentially locked into Crapple's world (I despise that company with a passion).

Now a days Mac options are included in the downloads.

Well, there have been times I've taken some of my wife's oversized T-shirts and put them on. Nobody can tell the difference :).

This question is much more intended for the guy who like Macs, but if you have an answer, please don't hesitate to post it.

1) Does OS X give you a command line option, as all versions of Windows do, or are you stuck with their GUI? To put it another way, can you open up something similar to Window's "Dos box" and type in the Unix-type commands supported by OS X?

2) Does the software that'll work on a Mac have to DRM'ed (given Crapple's seal of approval) for it to work, or can any programmer sit behind his terminal, write a program, compile it and install it as with Windows?

3) Can you open up a Mac and do the things you can do with a PC, e.g., add or remove memory, change out the CPU for a faster one (assuming the board supports it due to a firmware upgrade), put in a stronger video card if I now decide to become a hard core gamer, change out hard drives, and so on? Or are we talking a situation where any hardware upgrade means throwing that Mac out the window and buying another?

I have one more reason to hate Crapple that's got nothing to do with the above. I heard from a well-versed friend that in a few more years, they're going to a similar system to what they have with the iPhone and iPad -- the only place to get anything that'll work is at the Crapple store -- Macs will have to be jailbroken just like their tablet and phone cousins. Indeed, the only reason I have an iPhone is because it's jailbroken - it can now do marvelous things that violate Crapple's "terms of service". I hate them with such a passion!
