I was glad to see in this message that humbert learnt the basics of English:
https://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=1020.msg36956#msg36956
That’s why I’m going to talk about anglicisms in the French language today.

If some of you are learning French and if you are reading the books of Zola and Stendhal (I particularly enjoyed The Beast Within and The Red and the black), you will be surprised if you come to France because anglicisms are very numerous. And some words are so commonly used that each year new words derived from English are added as neologisms to the French dictionary. I guess that Humbert and Maher are going to be flabbergasted when they read the following text. Many French people would understand it pretty well. And some of these neologisms, like sponsor, email, planning (false anglicism for work plan) or flyer are much more used than their French equivalent.

Now here is the same text without anglicism.

Note that fewer anglicisms are used in Canada and the anglicisms above would probably not be used by a French speaking Canadian.
French in Quebec is considered the most regulated language in the world indeed. The inhabitants of Quebec have resisted assimilation in a sea of English speakers for centuries. In Canada, Bill 101, or the Charter of the French language, makes French the official language of Quebec and guarantees that every Quebec citizen has the right to receive government services in French, obliges the public to communicate to the public in French and in particular establishes the Bureau de la langue française du Quebec and the Superior Council of the French Language. By most parameters, the law has been successful. French Speakers represent the vast majority of the population and Quebec is one of the few places in the world where English is in decline. More controversial, Bill 101 obliges all people, even English speakers, to send their children to French-speaking schools, to promote francization (think of the "Stop” sign in France which is a “Arrêt” sign in Quebec) in the public sphere and impose severe sanctions on companies which don't communicate correctly in French.

Sometimes I believe the québeçois still think this is 1755 when the area was known as New France. Québec license plates say Je me Souviens. I think they're remembering when they were part of New France, I can't think of anything else. Also, it's not just their extreme view on forcibly imposing French. It's everything. If you want to study in Canada, you need a Canadian student visa AND a Québec visa if studying in that province. Back in 1995 they held a vote for independence. In Québec city it passed, but when you throw Montréal into the mix, it was defeated. But here's the funny part: if you want to learn French, Québec is not the place to go. You speak to them in less then perfect French, they respond in English. Go figure!

Here is another documentary about the third Reich. Humbert and Maher will certainly appreciate it.
As Adolf Hitler established his dictatorship across Germany, he imposed a brutal purge onto a group which over the years had greatly supported him, known as  the SA (Sturmabteilung) or Brownshirts. Their numbers rose to around 3 million which was 30 times the size of the army, and many believed they would form a new peoples army. However the SA were incredible loyal to Ernst Rohm, their leader. Because of this, Hitler feared a revolution where Rohm would overthrow him using the SA and to prevent this he ordered a purge of the SA's hierarchy. This event became known as the 'Night of the Long Knives,' and over a series of days, bloody killings took place.
On the photo: Ernst Röhm on the right, along with Kurt Daluege on the left and Heinrich Himmler, was one of the victims of the Night of the Long Knives.

Believe it or not the video isn't available in the USA. Sure, you could probably go through a VPN. But then again, why bother?

I can understand India with its billion people living one on top of the other. But a place as modern and tightly controlled as Saudi Arabia? I didn't see the video but I'm thinking they mean in small towns well outside the major cities.

This is like shooting yourself in the head and blaming the bullet for your death. The reason this guy is obese is because he's the one who decided to eat that garbage. Here in the USA fast food is everywhere, but I don't go anywhere near it unless I can't find something else (e.g., eating McDonalds on the Champs-Élysées).

The shady world of the fake Van Gogh
Was the most expensive painting ever sold at auction a fake? This award-winning documentary explores the authenticity of the Sunflowers painting by Vincent van Gogh, bought in the late 1980s for a then record sum by a Japanese insurance company.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xPYxroE6P8

Note that a previously unknown work by Vincent van Gogh, tucked away in an attic after the French ambassador to Sweden a century ago called it a fake, has been found to be real after all. The work, titled "Sunset at Montmajour," depicts a landscape dominated by trees in various shades of green. It is believed to have been painted during the time the Dutch artist spent in Arles, in the south of France, in 1888 and 1889.

In a previous message, Humbert was led to believe there is no poverty in Saudi Arabia.
As a result of  the myth of Lawrence of Arabia, this is the case for the man below too. But don’t be deceived by the picture: despite the Ghutrah, this is not a Saudi. And this foreigner is going to meet the most dangerous inhabitants of Saudi Arabia. He’s even offered some tea in the street ! It reminds me of a story told by my father: during a trip to Egypt in 1982, he was offered some tea by some inhabitants of El Arafa, a neighborhood of Cairo built in a cemetery, also known as “The city of the dead”.
Of course this video doesn't show it, but it is estimated that 20% of the Saudi citizens live in poverty. For decades, successive Saudi governments have done little to alleviate the suffering of their country’s poor. They have been reluctant to openly talk about their existence because recognising poverty necessitates recognising income inequality and the unfair distribution of wealth in the oil-rich country.
