wallofasgard -> I don't know what your CPU is but if you've got just 2GB or RAM then chances are you've got an ancient system. I don't even remember the last time when anything was sold with less than 4 GB. Stick with XP and turn updates off. As for those programs you run, have you tested them on W7 or W8? Just about everything that works with XP can run on W7 or W8. I don't say that, Microsoft does. Out of curiosity alone, what does "wallofasgard" mean?

Shhnedo -> You and Daniil are the ones who know most about computer science on this forum. We can all learn from your input.

iih -> Regarding continued XP updates, use your head a little. If indeed you could continue getting XP updates via a simple registry hack, then why [for example] is the government of China threatening not to buy W8 in protest of MS discontinuing support for their millions of computers still on that ancient OS?

Most of my programs especially Novels are tested and 100% working on 32 bit OS.I already tried to use them on my newer PC with Win7 64 bit but sometimes the Novel itself crash or suddenly stops from responding.Maybe due to 64 bit architecture but i'm not sure because i'm just a normal user (too much thinking makes me sleep in the process). :)  Mr. Maher's XP will be the last update of XP that i'm going to use and i'm not going to do those registry hack.I respect Mr. Maher's work (i don't want it to be ruined by those "unintended for XP update") and if something goes wrong...i will be confident to ask for assistance regarding his work. Thanks for reminding me about turning off the Automatic Update. :D

wallofasgard > Wall of Asgard. :)  I think i've got it from the unfinished Wall from Norse Myth.

There is news that Microsoft recommends not to use registry hack to update xp until 2019 as the update are applicable only to windows embedded and server editions and stability of xp by installing those updates are not guaranteed.

wallofasgard -> Again I'm curious. What file format do your novels come it? I would assume these are simply PDF files so they could be easily read by just about any device. To put it another way, what is so special about them that you're having trouble reading them on W7 or higher?

Can they be printed to PDF using one of the thousand of PDF printers?

Visual Novels. ;) And some of them are older than XP itself... :)

Even i myself is not sure why some of these Visual Novels are having some trouble with Win 7 especially 64 bit OS.

Maybe some of these novels especially the old ones are being distributed as "release and forget".  :'(

(Sigh) To be honest, these past months are making it hard for me to decide whether i will or will not stay on XP anymore.

New novels are being released and i'm quite sure that they are tested on newer OS.Perhaps i should try to use Win 7 32 bit (since i only have 2 gb of RAM  and Win7 is 32 bit) and pray that these novels will work just fine on it ...but i'm hesitating...

humbert

Are these visual novels compiled .exe program in themselves, or do you have a viewer running some sort of proprietary format? I understand perfectly that a pre-XP program might have trouble with W7 or higher, but if the program is newer (as you said), you can bet borrowed money it'll run on W7.

As for upgrading your OS, based on what you're telling us your computer might be a little too old to handle W7 or W8. You might want to run a test, but if so stick to 32bit versions of the newer OS'. Naturally as we advance more and more into the future, ditching XP becomes more and more inevitable.
