@scarface

Thanks for the quick reply.  :D
Could you walk me through the process or link me to a tutorial of some sorts?

I don't know how to put .cab files in .isos. Do I use PowerISO and put it in via there? I don't believe I can use the free version to edit ISOs though.

Update: I managed to restart the installation after rebooting a couple of more times. I'll wait for the error again and download the file as you have suggested. Thanks.  :)

Edit:
I have managed to search the forums for the file I was missing. It was mvsbvm50.dll, and I saw someone have the same issue as I have. However, he has managed to install on the second phase(GUI Installation) properly. I also searched the internet for what the purpose of this DLL file is and it's supposed to be for Visual Basic. Not sure how this affects my installation(I'm thinking it shouldn't).
~ I get a black screen for a really long time when I launch the 2nd phase. Is it supposed to take long? I've left it for roughly 30 minutes before giving up before the reinstall. Should I just wait it out? Thanks.

Yea, sorry being so n00b. :( I've never installed an OS before.

Before anything else, I'm sorry for double-posting. I am aware it is well frowned-upon in like every forum out there. The former post was just starting to get cluttered and it was getting on my nerves.
One last post before I go to sleep.

Additional Info:

  • I am using Win2Flash and a NTFS USB stick to install Windows XP
  • I am installing on a 7-year old, partition-less Desktop

So after the initial Text install(Step 1), wherein the only problem I had ran into was a missing mvsbvm50.dll file(I skipped it as suggested somewhere earlier this topic), ...

I am experiencing the following problems:

  • Black Screen when attempting to start Step 2(Windows is not booting)
  • "I/O Error: ...", fairly common, when -->DEBUG: MISSING hal.dll or N****.exe file is missing.<-- is clicked.
    I read somewhere along this support that I was supposed to use the bottom ones.
  • "Reinstall hal.dll" or something along those lines, when rdisk1 partition 1-3 is selected.
  • "Windows could not start because of a hardware configuration problem." when rdisk1 partition 4 or rdisk2 partition 1-4 is selected.

After a few reboots, the PC is now not even loading BIOS so I'm thinking the hardware finally gave in.(Probably the motherboard) Not sure where the exact problem is, but if it is a hardware problem, then there is definitely no way I'm keeping this Desktop. :'(

Anyway, sorry for the trouble. I'll try again later in the morning to see if it will boot up the BIOS again.
Thanks scarface for your reply to my initial post/inquiry.

Edit: Yep, my motherboard is most likely busted. >.> Really sorry for the trouble guys. I guess the Hardware Configuration Problem was indeed a hardware problem in this case(Is it..?).

Hey Dkc, try removing CMOS battery and insert the battery after 15-20mins.

15-20 minutes??? Not necessary. Whenever I've had to remove the CMOS battery the settings have disappeared immediately, and reinserting brings back all defaults.

@DkC - Seems like it's time to trash the old clunker. I'm under the impression you don't really need a speed demon. If so it won't be very expensive. On your new system forget about XP, install at least Windows 7. Personally I prefer Windows 8.1 - many people don't like it but quite honestly after running Windows 7 for 4 years and Windows 8(and 8.1) since it first came out, I strongly believe 8.1 is the way to go.

Vasudev

Usman-> how did you keep count of "The Humble Humbert's" words?

DkC

@Vasudev
Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already decided to get a new Desktop PC. This fella had been with me for around 5-6 years already, I think it's about time I let it rest.

@Humbert
Thanks Humbert, while I don't need a speed demon, I'd like one. :3 I don't have the money for one though. I will get a new Desktop PC soon and will take your advice and install Windows 7 instead.

Though, random question, does Windows 8.1 take up less system resources than Windows 7? Also, I've heard rumors about incompatible software. Windows 8 has been around for a while and I am aware that some kind of controversy surrounded the OS when it first came out(Mainly with the missing start button), but I've only heard about newer systems(higher specs) having it, so I can't really evaluate it by that standard alone.

How will it run on a Intel Core 2 Duo and around 4GB of RAM? Is it also 64-bit by default or is there a 32-bit version? Thanks for the answers.

P.S. This is a nice forum/community :D

My experiences is that Windows 8 is lighter and faster than Windows 7. I don't personally like Windows 8 mainly because of gestures, and that stuff is app based. It's very personal, but it surely does boot a lot faster than Windows 7. I am also not a fan of the sharp edges in Windows 8 c:

Thanks for the answers  ;D Shadow.97, usmangujjar.

I'll most likely install a x64 Windows 8.1 on the new system I'm getting. It might take a while to get used to the gestures though.

Vasudev

Hey Dkc, I'm using the same core 2 duo, 4gigs of ram which is 5 y.o. it can run  windows 7, 8.1 and also 10.
