Are you saying your laptop doesn't start or generally perform as fast as it did when you originally bought it? If that's the case, then let me ask you -- do you do maintenance on its copy of Windows (assuming that's what you're using)? Keep in mind that in order for Windows to continue to run well, it must be maintained. Download a copy of Ccleaner (and Ccleaner Enhancer) and use it daily. Also, get yourself a nice registry cleaner and use that daily too. It would also help to install a defragging program (Diskkeeper is a fine example). It will defrag your drive(s) in the background while your computer is on.

Keep in mind that Windows is notorious for producing and leaving behind garbage that does nothing more than slow your computer down.

I too have had problems installing updates with Windows 7. Just today I had that problem. Then a clicked on somewhere that said (I think) "possible solutions" and it linked me to some kind of "FixIt" file on Microsoft's web site. I download the file and double clicked it. After the program told me the problem was fixed, I made another attempt to get the update -- and this time it actually worked! Try that and see. I still have the file and, if you want, I'll put it on my Dropbox account and send you the link so you can immediately download it.

Microsoft doesn't allow slipstreaming of this update, don't know why!
I can still slipstream it, but I'm afraid it will make problems.
Microsoft must have a reason why they didn't allow this update to be slipstreamed.

Regarding MS updates, this morning I tried to install KB2538243, but when I did so it asked me to insert some sort of CD-Rom or file, showing a 1 in the blank space where you're supposed to put the file it wants. Naturally the update didn't go through because I had no such CD. Any idea how to install things what give you this error message?
