The laptop of my cousin exploded

Last week, my cousin bought a new battery and insert it forcefully on his Acer d150-bw

There are some smokes coming out and crashes fire. He extinguish it, he used an Class D extinguisher (He rented it from his neighbour)

We all were all scared

Everyone please help us how he got it

I think we're missing some information here. It makes sense that anything electronic can be damaged if you use force to insert something either the wrong way or in the wrong place. How this would start a fire doesn't make too much sense. Did he break a wire and cause a short circuit? Was there anything flammable in the immediate vicinity?

Certainly he didn't attempt this with the laptop plugged into the wall. Nobody's that stupid.
