Why exactly do you guys need Java?

Flash I can understand. Despite the security risk there are trillions of sites out there that still use it. As much we may hate it, Flash is a necesity. Not so with Java. Rarely do I ever run into a Java-based site.

Are there still any important (i.e., no better alternative) PC programs that require Java? Last one I remember was Limewire. I used that many years ago.

Damn! I hate Java and as of now, I uninstalled Java but recently I want the damn thing because of dependency for LaTeXDraw. Has anyone used any other vector drawing programs for LaTeX apart from Xfig?

Must you use LaTex for your studies or your job? Is there no alternative?

Actually its for my thesis/project, not that MSO is disallowed, but our dept. made it mandatory to submit thesis. They said its easy to keep track of page nos., table of contents and citations.
Actually I found an alternative for xfig called Dia.
I'm going a little off-topic, did anyone notice UWP apps problems after upgrading from TH2 to Redstone? As of now, Win Store isn't working it used to work but it a'int workin' now. Should I perform a Hard Reset just like do on WP after upgrading to new Build.

updated to jre8 u112.

Why are you still using Java? Is there an important Java-based site in your bookmarks, or are you like Vasudev who is stuck with a program that relies on it?

You already asked me the same question a few years ago. It seems you don't really like Java. Yes there are still websites using java, on this one you won't be able to display graphics without jre for example: http://www.boursorama.com/bourse/cours/graphiques/historique.phtml?&symbole=GG&applet=1
And sometimes you can stumble upon some apps that still needs it. They are not numerous, I admit it.

It's not a matter of not liking Java. It the fact that not that many sites are using it and very few programs that need it. In fact, what I'm seeing is less and less use of Java as the days go by. I don't like Flash either, but unlike Java, with Flash I have no choice but to install it. Too many sites out there use it for videos and games. Even so, Flash's days are also numbered. For example, pornhub.com upgraded to HTML5. Check them out. Surely I'm not the only pervert on this site. :)

Updated to Jre 16.

You need to use Firefox 52 ESR to keep using it.
