I'm not clear about something. Does Rufus have to support your specific ISO file in order to create a bootable USB drive? If not then how do you use it. I looked for the answer on their site and didn't find it.

I hven't had any problems with Rufus. But truth be told, I only used it for Win7.
@humbert
It doesn't have to support your specific iso, I guess it identifies the OS by inspecting iso contents and uses a modified boot loader, if that's what you mean.

Let me see if I understand this. Any ISO that will boot after being burned to a DVD can be booted from a flashdrive with Rufus? I'm asking because the USB boot programs I've seen so far (such as those available at pendrivelinux.com) will make bootable flashdrives only from those ISO's they support.

Thanks for the info regarding Rufus. I was under the impression a tool like this did not exist.

Good day again,

I am having some trouble upon testing Mr.Mahers, May 2014 update...you see, after creating partitions (C and D)...then,proceeding with the "Set-up is Formatting",it keeps on stucking at 20% for almost half an hour since my post...

Can you guys help me with this problem? I am sure that the ISO that i've downloaded match the MD5 hash and i also see to it that the ISO was burned (using IMGBURN at 12x speed, my CD was capable of 48X write speed) and was verified without  an error.

I also tested it on my new hard drive but it also stuck at 20% in "Set-up is Formatting"..any ideas how to fix my problem?

Thanks...

Does the same problem occur if you select "NTFS (Quick)" format option? Regular format is very slow because it performs a surface scan, although it still shouldn't get stuck in one place - this could indicate an I/O error but you say the same happens with another hdd, so it doesn't make much sense. While formatting, CD is not read, so burning had nothing to do with it.
See if you have better luck with Easeus Partition Master.

Yes, i selected the "Quick" NTFS Format,i even deleted the old partition and created a new one but it still stuck at 20% at "Set up is Formatting"..what i'm thinking is that it was a hard drive problem (bad sectors). But some also says that it must be some BIOS setting (which i have no idea what to set). :-[    But just to clarify things,i don't have to set anything in the BIOS before Installing Mr.Maher's May Update of Windows XP right?

wallofasgard -> You said C: and D: - are you needing 2 partitions on your first hard drive? If not, then forget about D: for now, we can deal with that later.

I don't see how the BIOS could be to blame either. They've been auto detecting for quite while now. To rule out any possibility the BIOS is at fault, you could boot into it and set everything to default.

Why not grab a copy of Hirens boot CD, do some tests on the HD, and even attempt to create a new partition and quick-format it for NTFS.

Yes,i need at least two partitions just for my files to be safe (in D partition) if something goes bad in the future...like formatting the "C" again...

Sigh...maybe the hard drive itself is defective since it takes too long to detect it upon boot...sometimes it stucks at 20% at "Set up is Formatting" and sometimes it don't and if it don't it will hang again at "Copying Files" at random percentage.

3 hours ago,i somehow managed to complete the OS installation using Mr.Maher's May update...i thought my problem was solved but when my OS starts,it hangs at Windows/system32/drivers/mup.sys.  :(

I bought this Seagate 500gb HDD yesterday and later i will go back to them let them test it  and ask for replacement if necessary. ;)

Will update you later guys about the results. Thanks for the replies. :)
