The simple fact that many people only know of Windows Media Player is no reason to keep it there forever. There are tons of players out there that are far better than WMP, at least in my opinion. Not only that, but if configured as default, all the person has to do is simply double-click on the file.

The only reason I haven't deleted WMP off my system is because there are other players and add-ons that need its engine to work.

Hello Maher and others here as well,

I want ask you how i can change automatically added Product key of the Windows XP SP3 Professional from December 2012,
if own original product key for the same type of Windows.
I reinstalled my previous installation of Win XP Pro 32-bit, by your version. My previously installed - legal copy of win XP Pro had gone mad and had some errors by shut down process of the system.

All updates to your version of XP Pro were successful except those for MS Visual C++ 2005, 2008 and 2010 and DotNetFX 3.5SP1 and 4.
I want also to ask you if it possible update normally through Windows update in control panel.
Because i want use my installed Win XP Pro legally, and normally as before.

I am asking of a little help, because i want to replace the current product key by my previous one (legal) i have used on previous Win XP Pro installation. Tell me the steps how to do that and to be able to apply all of system components updates same as the system updates.
Every help is welcome. I just need to know what to do to use my original product key and update Windows normally through Windows update.

Thanx in advance, Vlad

Ahmad

Hello :)

To know where is the serial in Maher's ISO file, follow this:
In the ISO file, in I386 folder >> There is a file called WINNT.SIF
Open this file with Notepad >> You'll find this :
ProductKey="... You'll find the serial here ..."
This file "WINNT.SIF" is called answer file, So when you are installing windows from boot "Fresh Install", You'll need no activation.

Or after installing Maher's Windows or any Windows, you can read and change the serial using the tool attached.

Maher's release doesn't contain .NET frameworks.. You can install them later and update without problems.

P.S. The serial included by Maher is original and you'll pass any test and update any component without troubles. But if you want to add your own serial to Maher's release, it's OK as long as your serial is for the PRO VL [Professional Volume License] version. If your key is for Retail version, it won't work.

OK, thank you very much.

Now, im little surprised and curious from your answer, though it is helpful, im not sure if i should change it to my key- legal i had previously installed on Win XP Pro.
But please tell me what is the difference between the retail version of Windows XP, and that Professional Volume License.
Because mine previous key is maybe not retail one,  which was added to a PC - Pentium Celeron M (Mobile) rated 1.4 GHz CPU based Business High-end model IBM Thinkpad R40 from 2003 (that PC is now dead) with at that time superb big 64MB RAM and 32MB VGA Radeon 7500 series. I was using its key on my machine wihout a problem since 2007 up to these days.
But because something broke up in windows registry, or on HDD i need to reinstall the OS by Maher's version of Win XP Pro SP3 from Dec.2012, because i wanted to omit the endless updating from SP2 from 2005 to current state nad  to be faster again "at work".

Maybe my version of OS is retail maybe that VL. But can you recommend me how i can now if that license is Professional volume license.  P.S.- On tha tlicense it is written that it is Corporate IBM license and this info is near the product key line. So is that a Professional Volume license or not?

If i can ask you or someone else another question, does i need install all versions of .NET Framework in order from 2.0, through 3.5 up to 4 (which is last recommended one for XP), or
as i've red i just need install only the 4th version, because it has backward compatibility and apps using 2 or 3.5 will run under it?

Thanx in advance, Vlad

You're welcome :)

What I know about VL & Retail is..
- VL Windows [Like Maher's] is a copy of Windows which you can install on many machines with a single VL key [Like the key provided in Maher's Windows]....i.e. VL key can activate any machine running VL Windows.
- Retail key [I think] can only activate certain number of machines, after that Microsoft blocks it.
- Some machines come with its own key which activates only that machine and can't activate any others.. Perhaps this is what called OEM key.

To know the type of your Windows and key.. It's simple because Retail key can't activate VL Windows.. Open the tool I've attached before and read the local key installed in your Windows. After that change that key and replace it with the VL key provided by Maher.. After that read the local key again to see if it was successfully changed.. If the key was changed, then your Windows is VL... If not changed, then your Windows is not VL and also the key.

I want to ask you if it's necessary for you to use your own key.. If you don't have to, use Maher's Windows as it is and you'll never complain problems about updating.

Regarding Frameworks.. What I'm sure about is that version 3.5 has all the previous versions, but I'm not sure that version 4 can be enough without 3.5.
This is what Microsoft says in the Overview of version 4:
QuoteThe .NET Framework 4 works side by side with older Framework versions. Applications that are based on earlier versions of the Framework will continue to run on the version targeted by default.

May others tell you about that.

Good luck, Vlad :D

UPDATE:

I've tried that for you..
I use a program which needs .NET Framework 2.0.. I've uninstalled .NET Framework v2.0 and installed v4.0 -->  The program didn't work after that and gave me error. [Look at the image attached].

So, .NET Framework v4.0 isn't for applications that need previous versions, and the sentence of Microsoft means that it can be installed beside the previous versions without problems but can't do their work. They work together.

So, install v4.0 only if you have applications need it.. If you don't need it, don't install it.

Hi. i'm looking to formatting  my drive. I've downloaded Maher's Windows XP SP3 Professional ( December ) and Hiren's BootCD for insurance, though I've never used it before.  both Iso's burnt to dvd's.

What i want to know is,  what are some important things that i should back up? i'm not talking about mp3's,movies or w/e.

I'm just a little nervous that if i format, i' wont be able to connect to the internet or i wont be able to do things that i normally do.

So what are somethings that i should backup or download before formatting.

thanks  :)

Hello :)

You know that after formatting, every thing you had on C: drive will be lost like programs installed, pictures, documents, what in Downloads folder and everything.. So, backup important files from those.

Or, if you want to backup the whole C: drive with the whole Windows to an image [You can restore this image to C: drive when need], you can use any backup tool like Norton Ghost or others. This tutorial shows you how to backup and restore using Norton Ghost.

Finally, after installing Maher's Windows, you'll need drivers for your PC like Sound, VGA, and NET drivers because Maher's release contains only SATA drivers.

So, if you have the CD or DVD for your PC drivers, you're OK.

If you don't have drivers for your PC, download them from their official site before installing Windows because you'll need them later.

Or, if you can't specify what drivers to download, there are many driver packs which can install drivers for any PC because of their large drivers database.. One of the best driver packs is DriverPack Solution.. Download it before installing Windows.

Good luck.  ;)

thanks for the advise. i'll definitely be downloding DriverPack Solution.

Do you think it's a good idea to format  or install  Maher Xp  over my currrent XP, just to see if my burnt ISO works correctly?

thanks :-*

If you burnt the ISO file correctly as IMAGE not DATA, then it'll work.. Try booting from the Hiren's BootCD.. If it boots well, then the other DVD of Windows will boot well since you burnt them with the same way.
This tutorial shows you the right way to burn ISO image, if you need it.

For me, I don't like the upgrade installation.. I always do a fresh one. But it's your choice.
Good luck.  :D
