Quote from: scarface on April 10, 2025, 12:00 AMFor unknown reasons, I'm unable to capture the image of windows 11 under Vmware player (Sysprep fails during OOBE with "Error SYSPRP BCD: BiUpdateEfiEntry failed c000000d"). I'm going to use another virtual machine. Hence, The release of a new image of windows 11 is delayed.

Do you know of another virtual machine program other than VirtualBox and VMWare?
Hyper-V from microsoft included for Free on Pro and enterprise

Have you tested Hyper-V and gotten it to work correctly? How does it compare to Vbox and VMware? It's never occurred to me to even test it.

I have been using Hyper V on windows 11 exclusively as Vbox and VMware work differently with unattended and SCCMs scripts etc

1) I put HyperV in using Control Panel. Let me ask: I asks if you want Generation 1 or 2. Which do you use?

2) Every time I click "Browse" to find a folder, it says "Application Failed to open remote file browser". However, if you manually type in the path, it'll work. What's going on?

3) Does this support setting up other drives or partitions? With Vbox you can select any drive or partition and (in Windows) assign it a drive letter. I'm not seeing any way to do this in the setup.

4) How do you copy files back and forth from the host to guest?

Let me know.

I use generation 2. Alternatively, You can use quick create to automatically create virtual disk and optimal settings.

Hey Vasu: I downloaded an ISO of Linux Mint to try to install it as a virtual machine on HyperV. I got it to install but now it won't boot. A black screen comes up with a red bar on top and a padlock in the center. I googled this and from what I'm reading, this thing won't boot unless you have secure boot enabled in the BIOS. This happens despite the fact that I have secure boot turned off in the VM's settings. Any ideas? I hate secure boot and I'm not turning it on. In fact, any time I receive a new computer the very first thing I do is disable secure boot.

Have you run into this issue? If so, how do you fix it?

Yeah I remember Linux Mint ISOs is old. I have same issue with LMDE 6 due to outdated ISO and secure boot certificate. Usually they release Edge ISO with bleeding edge support for new hardware and kernel which has updated components. I don't see any updated Edge ISOs with Ubuntu Noble.
I have tried slipstreaming the linux mint ISO and sadly it doesn't boot properly and is stuck at blackscreen when testing in VM.
In the meantime you can try out Zorin OS which I heard is lighter than cinnamon and xfce4 editions. Direct Link to Core ISO
