I quit burning bootable ISO's to DVD or CD completely. Using a USB stick is infintely faster. In this case grab Windows7-USB-DVD-tool.exe - I'm pretty sure it'll work for XP also because it's a free download from Microsoft. Google for it and you'll find it. BTW - don't even dream of using USB 3.0 for XP. XP is too ancient, too old for USB 3.0.

Certainly PowerISO will work great, but frankly I prefer Burnaware. I might mention I've never had a problem because I used a speed faster than the slowest one.
Same here. I simply don't have time to wait in most cases. I almost always burn at maximum speed.

Hi, and thx for your support.
Is it possible to change the language from your image with winlite ?

shhnedo

You could integrate a languagepack, but you can't change the language of the .iso itself.

So I guess XP SP3 April will be the last iso made by maher? I think I saw something about a version of XP with support extended past April 8. I don't mean the so called "payed support"(or it could be that and I'm just not so well informed).

Up against deadline, it's driving me nuts trying to get all various bits from MS site, and getting to know nlite is just bit too much.

So hwo can I use disc to OEM install?

I have ISO and deleted winnt.sif (to get rid of that VLK), and changed the PID in settup.ini.

But then I panic a bit as I see OEM directory with drvrpack executables, pkzip, etc and I wonder whether that SIF file also contained relevant code for slipstreamed updates.

Will try disc but not holding out hope (oh also changed the label of course).

But failing all this...  back to orig question.

Can I, or how can I use as OEM disc installer.

I have LEGAL keys I want to use, and currently it is taking longer than one day per install using an original OEM SP3 disc, which is driving me nuts  (largely my fault as I try and Ghost/Acronis image frequently through the process and try and catch all those updates in the SoftDist folder (thinking it will save mindnumbing browsing of MS website).  Good thing though as .NET4 adds intolerable delay to startup, and I've got to redo things with AHCI option , so plenty headaches to come.

elcapo

not completely surprised but saying that just read a posting on mydigitallife detailing the same thing.

change the PID to change the channel.

Besides disc ran (boy all those SATA drivers take ages) right upto key entry,  whereby it refused to accept ANY key,  tried VLK & OEM.

Hmmm.

ran nlite on an XP2 OEM HOme disc, adding SP3 a doddle, but what about drivers?  nlite screenshots all show PnP, but surely textmode is more important.   Also what is correct inf for Intel   the AHCI or the Stor option they seem to be same and nlite won't accept both.

As for hotfixes, it refuses to accept any hotfix of mine   (as they are all ready to go in install directories, but update.exe should work....    shouldn't it?

humbert

@elcapo -> Why do you even bother with XP? Are you stuck with an old system or what? Also, I'm not surprised your SATA drivers take forever to load - SATA did not even exist when XP was released in 2001.

Did you hear that the UK government made a deal with Microsoft to extend XP support for £5.5M for another year? Naturally it's only for them, plus sooner or later they're going to have to bite the bullet and upgrade. The funny thing is that they've known about XP's upcoming extinction for over a year and did nothing until the very last second. They could have saved themselves that money had the acted sooner. I suppose if it weren't for the last minute, nothing would ever get done.

elcapo

Astrium satellites also all use XP,   same for various Formula 1 teams,  plenty of others.

Hardware legacy support.    Besides I am trying to sort a collection of legacy machines, just sprucing them up and getting genuine licences sorted before support end.

RE -   Maher disc.

It doesn't work anyway.  Tried it on various hardware.    Even on classic pre AHCI machine setup txtmode failed before even getting to "do you wan to install XP" screen.

I seem to recall that error mentioned ntdll.

Tried it on ICH10 ASUS p5Q in IDE & AHCI modes but Maher March disc doesn't even get that far.

It goes to blank/black screen for a while then says

INF file txtsetup.sif corrupt or missing  Status 4096.

AND THIS WAS WITH ORIGINAL UNMODDED MAHER MARCH DISC.   Cannot get it running on ANY hardware tried, going back to Pentium 3 / single core Athlon era hardware - AGP GFX!!          -  yet several discs I have created do work, just the AHCI issue is still causing headaches.

**** an aside to user above -  Why would MAher even be bothering making such discs if people didn't appreciate his efforts????     Further family member had laptop serviced - OS clean installed by a professional outfit and they put XP on the machine even though Vista or 7 would have been appropriate  (and no COA existed as all labels on underside worn out totally - no clue even to machines identity or serial, let alone paper based MS COA)... so they did XP too, albeit last year. *******

Turned out one of initial issues I ran into with nlite is it hadn't made a proper ISO.   Then there is the 'Bad Pooler Call' problem .... whcih is thanks manly to Intel screwing up drivers.

RVM created a modded XP SP3 disc perfectly   but this won't get round the AHCI issue.

As of April 8 2014, Microsoft will no longer support Windows XP for the general public.
This means there will no longer be any updates or security patches for the OS,
making it vulnerable to security threats. The company has urged XP users to
migrate to a more recent supported operating system. Microsoft site Link

Just a few days after the UK government signed a £5.548 million deal with Microsoft
for a years worth of Windows XP support, the government of the Netherlands has
signed another multi-million Euro deal with the company for continued support of
its Windows XP systems, according to Dutch News.

As per the report, around 34000-40000 Dutch national government civil servants
are still using Windows XP computers. The deal is expected to provide continued
Windows XP support until all government PCs are migrated to a new system,
which is due to happen in January 2015.

A similar deal between the software giant and the United Kingdom government
is expected to see the former provide critical security updates for XP, Office 2003,
and Exchange 2003 until April 8, 2015

However, Microsoft has given banks using XP Embedded until January 2016 to
upgrade before it cuts support. More Details Click here
