Scarface: You know much more about financial matters than I do so tell me what you think of this:

While cryptocurrency in theory might look like a great idea, there is a major problem. Due to the nature of how it works, there is no central authority to regulate it. Price is based only on supply and demand. This results in the huge changes which makes the whole idea of crypto unpalatable. Not too long ago Bitcoin was a nearly US$60k. Today (16/11/2022) it's at about $16.6k. Who is going to invest in Bitcoin with those uncontrollable changes going on?

I believe unless someone comes up with some way to regulate this thing, crypto is going nowhere.

I'll reply to humbert later (in the fiance topic). I don't have time today but this is an interesting question.
Note that I recommended the LDLC stock at 20€. It reached my target price and I  recommend selling.

After two years of incredible gains, the prices of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have plunged in recent months indeed; and more turbulence was to come with the bankruptcy of FTX. Are cryptocurrencies here to stay? Is it time for governments to regulate them? It's hard to answer these questions. Some argue that If the traded price of bitcoin dropped below cost, miners would disappear and it would become pretty much worthless very quickly. Bitcoin is not a real currency and you can't go to your grocery store and buy anything with it. What's more, unlike gold, it has no intrinsic value.

Therein lies the problem. Bitcoin and its 500 copycats were created precisely to avoid any kind of outside regulation. It's ironic that the reason it was created is precisely what may lead to its demise. Government regulation is impossible given since crypto is not tied to any government. What I said is that somebody -- some developer or some financial genius -- has to come up with some sort of algorithm to prevent these massive, uncontrolled changes of value. As long as the current situation presists, cryptocurrency is not practical.

Thats what they are trying to fix with Stablecoins.

I'm still sitting here with some old obscure "coins" of various kinds that I mined in hopes they somehow oneday become worth 100k each :D

I had no idea they even existed. I'm seeing they even have a page of Wikipedia. One thing is for sure -- if they manage to fix the stability problem, all others will follow. Crypto can continue the way it is.

Be patient. One day they'll get there unless they're stabilized. Even then you might come out ahead.
