Welcome back Guliver! Your input is an asset to our forum.

With respect to the pumps spraying water, in a documentary I was watching they said "the Romans didn't have electricity, but they had gravity". The Tiber River was physically higher than Rome. This enabled them to build acueducts that sloped down at a very narrow angle and supply the city with water. I can only imagine the fountains we see in the Paris video worked the same way, assuming no electricity was available. Even with today's technology water towers are everywhere. There is no better way to pressurize water.

I've been saying for quite a while that Putin is a die-hard Stalinist. He is a former KGB colonel and a stone cold killer who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. In the 1990's he managed to deceive Yeltsin that he would continue to lead Russia to democracy, and did exactly the opposite. Putin is also one of the world's wealthiest men, having looted nearly $70 billion from his people. In the process he has brought Russia to its knees. Well over 100,000 Russians have been killed in Ukraine with no end in sight. And yet this madman continues and will not stop until he dies. We've been hearing reports Putin sick (cancer or something else). Let's hope that's true.

I looked into the fountains and electricity a little bit more and I found that the moving sidewalk we can see in scarface's video was constructed for a so-called "Exposition Universelle 1900". The ineresting thing is that this exposition featured many new inventions powered by electricity: the moving sidewalk itself (called "trottoir roulant"), an electric train and even the world's first electrobus (aka trolleybus), all this in the year 1900! Btw, check out this fascinating photo of how they handled the collector wires on top of the trolleybus, with what today seems like very little regard for safety:

This same exposition also featured a water fountain, illuminated electrically. I did not find out if it was also powered by electricity, but considering all the aformentioned, it definitely could have been. But what seems even more likely is that, the electricity for all this was generated using steam engine generators, so it would kinda make sense to use part of the mechanical power from the steam engines to power a water pump directly, which would be more efficient because there'd be less loss of energy.

You are correct. I had forgotten the fact that commercial electricity began its deployment as far back as the 1880's when Edison was putting together his now-defunct DC system in New York. The Europeans were working on it too. Fortunately Nicola Tesla saved the day and discovered AC. George Westinghouse bought into it and made all the money. Tesla was a brilliant engineer but a very bad businessman. He died alone in a New York hotel without a cent to his name.

With respect to how the people in the picture handles the trolley wires, I would guess they had turned off the power for them to work. Also, the men do not appear to be in a position where they are grounded. They must have learned that hard way that one wrong touch and you're as good as fried.

This is a small territory that is claimed by the neighboring country: half of the population is foreign. The sovereignty of this territory is at the heart of a territorial dispute and the subject of heated debates.
This territory is also plagued by clashes between machete-wielding gangs. Street battles have struck fear into residents and led the mainland government to send a contingent of elite anti-terror police. Insecurity is rampant: lines of burned-out cars point to reprisals, with gangs of several hundred men and boys, some as young as 12, responsible for the daily unrest that includes roadblocks and attacks on motorists. What's more, In this territory, the drinking water network does not cover all inhabited areas and is non-existent in the shanty towns: around 40% of the population does not have access to running water at home. Finally, as a territory facing extreme poverty, it still experiences infectious diseases that are very little present at the national level, such as hepatitis A and it has seen resurgences of cholera or epidemics of typhoid fever.
If humbert and Vasudev are reading this, they must be thinking that I'm talking about Palestine, this is obvious. But that's not the case. Concerning Palestine, this is a predicament (and in French there is no word for that. It's a problem without solution so far). But here the situation is nightmarish.
I'm talking about Mayotte, (by far) the poorest department of France. For me it wouldn't be a problem to go to Palestine, but given the current situation, even if I was paid, I wouldn't go to Mayotte.
Here is a presentation of the current situation.
