Well, I don’t know if Palestine is better than Jordan. But I’d be glad to visit the city of Amman.

I'm going by what Maher tells me. He said he's done the math many times and came to the conclusion that it is not in his best interests to move his family to Amman. He's also told me that things in the West Bank are not as bad as the news media would lead you to believe. According to him, despite the occupation you almost never see Israelis anywhere. Order is kept by the Palestinian police according to the treaty signed by Yassir Arafat and Yitzak Rabin in 1995.

Jordan is not a well-known country and in America, Jordan is probably most known as a basket ball player.

Sadly the level of education in the country is pathetic, at least when compared to other "advanced" countries.

In French, the West Bank is known as “Cisjordanie” and it’s not surprising since it was part of Jordan after its annexation on 24 April 1950. It’s only in 1967 that Jordan lost control of the West Bank to Israel after the six-day war.

And a few years later, King Hussein relinquished Jordan's claim on the West Bank and essentially gave it to the Palestinians.

I was glad to see in this message that humbert learnt the basics of English:
https://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=1020.msg36956#msg36956
That’s why I’m going to talk about anglicisms in the French language today.

If some of you are learning French and if you are reading the books of Zola and Stendhal (I particularly enjoyed The Beast Within and The Red and the black), you will be surprised if you come to France because anglicisms are very numerous. And some words are so commonly used that each year new words derived from English are added as neologisms to the French dictionary. I guess that Humbert and Maher are going to be flabbergasted when they read the following text. Many French people would understand it pretty well. And some of these neologisms, like sponsor, email, planning (false anglicism for work plan) or flyer are much more used than their French equivalent.

Now here is the same text without anglicism.

Note that fewer anglicisms are used in Canada and the anglicisms above would probably not be used by a French speaking Canadian.
French in Quebec is considered the most regulated language in the world indeed. The inhabitants of Quebec have resisted assimilation in a sea of English speakers for centuries. In Canada, Bill 101, or the Charter of the French language, makes French the official language of Quebec and guarantees that every Quebec citizen has the right to receive government services in French, obliges the public to communicate to the public in French and in particular establishes the Bureau de la langue française du Quebec and the Superior Council of the French Language. By most parameters, the law has been successful. French Speakers represent the vast majority of the population and Quebec is one of the few places in the world where English is in decline. More controversial, Bill 101 obliges all people, even English speakers, to send their children to French-speaking schools, to promote francization (think of the "Stop” sign in France which is a “Arrêt” sign in Quebec) in the public sphere and impose severe sanctions on companies which don't communicate correctly in French.
