There's what I believe to be another flaw in the movie. In one of the final scenes, DeCaprio is in the water clinging to a lifeboat telling his girlfriend everything was going to be OK. Why did nobody pull him in, especially the girl? One more passenger correctly placed would not have been enough to capsize the boat.
