In my opinion this kind of thinking is worse than dementia. Having learning difficulties due to dementia is to dementia is one thing. Being unwilling to learn is another matter entirely.

As all of us know, technology moves forward at light speed. You either keep up or be left behind. He chose to be left behind.

Not to compare myself with him or anyone else, but this is something I'm acutely aware of. I don't care how old I get. There is always something new to learn and, as I see it, the fast advance of technology is fascinating.

Quote from: Shadow.97 on June 18, 2024, 07:50 PMHe is currently looking for a new one to support all the applications. But the issue is teaching him a new OS.
It took around 4h of hand-holding to teach him how to open his new mailbox when it was migrated.
And around another 4 of re-holding that hand because he forgot it.
It will be a nightmare trying to teach him a new OS.

I can't understand it. All OS's today use a GUI to make it easy for users. It's a simple matter of clicking an icon. In the case of Windows 10 or 11, simply touch the Windows key and you'll have your icons staring you in the face. Alternatively you can put shortcuts for the apps he uses on the desktop. You can also install classic shell and you've got an interface that's basically a copy of Windows 11.

With respect to email, what program does he use? Just about all that work with Windows 7 work with higher versions of Windows OR have an updated version that does.

Seriously: does he suffer from dementia or something of that nature?

You wont be able to teach this man how to use the "new ui" of programs. In this case it is Mozilla Thunderbird.
The new UI of thunderbird and windows 10/11 would be enough to give this man an aneurysm..

I think todays UI's are harder because you cant read what they do. He is quite picture blind. He needs the mental reinforcement of knowing 100% what something is. An icon does not suffice.
This is a person that shares facebook clips of AI generated content, and games thinking it is real life.
I get it.

No disrespect to Shadow's grandfather or any other person in particular. I speak in general terms. Ignorance is not simply not knowing something - it is rigidity and unwillingness to learn.

Changing the topic briefly. I like the beautiful game all of you know. The other day I was watching a UEFA champions league game from Dortmund, Germany. There were guys with no shirts and everybody else in tropical clothing trying to cool off. They announced the temp as an incredibly hot 27°C. What?? I couldn't believe it. Where I live during the summer months, 27°C is an unusually cool day. I think if they came here they'd die of heatstroke.

Vasu: I tried to grab a copy of your upload. I attempted the download with the Mega browser extension and I keep getting this message:

"Your browser storage for MEGA is full. Your download will continue automatically after your free up some space"

What's this all about?

OH, BTW - does this ISO have a setup program for an upgrade? Have you tested it?

It seems local storage is full which can be solved by removing browsing cache and history from beginning of Chrome. Yes I run into issues with new PC having Win 11 with in-place upgrade and had to be sure what's the cause. It seems Win 11 needs dynamic updates and onedrive/MS account linking. I switched to local account after getting locked out of MSFT account with 2FA. I wiped out the PINs and restarted after logging into MSA through password and immediately switched to Local account. I even got Bitlocker recovery screen as well. Turned off device encryption and Bitlocker. Locking my own PC with right credentials is bad!

Anyway I will upload new Sept release build in few days. With setup.exe allow access to internet and it should download any missing file and drivers. As always do take a full image through macrium reflect or any SW.

Great! I need to install some sort of update that can overwrite whatever problem I have. Every time I try to upgrade to 23H2 or 24H2 I get that detestable "Something went wrong - undoing changes" message. Hopefully your will work. They've worked great in the past.

If I have touble download it I'll send you a message to see the best way to fix it.

It seems with Win11 MSFT decided to get its blessings before initiating setup.exe in-place upgrade even though all updates are installed. Why does everyone copy bad things done by Apple. Will be upload it by tomorrow or day after.

OK thanks. I got it. I used the Mega extension on my portable copy of the Iron browser (an ungoogled carbon copy of Chrome). After a few error messages I changed the download directory and got out of the incognito mode. It worked.

I'll run a test tomorrow night after performing a backup.

BTW: As much as we may dislike Chrome, we Firefox users need to have a portable copy of some Chromium browser. There are many sites out there that are specifically designed for Chrome and will not run on Firefox. Here on this forum for some unexplained reason, I can't get in with Firefox.
