Questions for Maher

Maher, I'm curious about 2 unrelated subjects. When you write to your friends in Arabic, is it because you added that language in Windows Control Panel under "Region and Language" (as I did with Spanish) or did you do something else? I imagine if that's what you did, you are still using your QWERTY keyboard and have memorized the position of the Arabic characters. Also. when you press Alt-LeftShift to switch languages, does your cursor automatically go to the extreme right of where you're typing? I'm thinking maybe this is what happens given that Arabic is written from right to left, unlike any language that uses the Latin alphabet.

Changing the subject, you have uploaded torrents to sites many times. Assuming you use µTorrent, do you go through the usual drill of creating a torrent file and uploading it as is explained by all the sites, or do you use µT's new feature where you just drag and drop a file to a box? I don't have a clue as to how to use that feature if you're sending a torrent to a specific site. I've asked this question on the µT forum site many times and I never get an answer, so I figure if anybody knows, it's got to be Maher.

Yes, I added the language from Control Panel.
Even though I memorize Arabic charchters, but my keyboard has them. You forgot that I live in an Arabic country, which must have Arabic keyboards :)
When I was in Russia I didn't have Arabic keyboard, but I can type both English and Arabic with my eyes closed.

Regarding torrents. I didn't really try the drag and drop files feature. I click on "Create New Torrent" icon.
Select folder by clicking on Add Directory. Then I enter the trackers (I will post which one I use later in this post). Then I type a comment describing what I'm uploading.
Finally I uncheck Private Torrent and check Start Seeding.
I save the Torrent file to the desktop, then I upload it to TPB.
That's it..

I knew you were Palestinian but I had no idea you lived in an Arab country. Out of curiosity, may I ask which one (there are 22, I believe)? The question is based exclusively on curiosity, nothing else, and if you'd prefer to keep that private, naturally I respect you. I just clicked on Firefox's flagfox add-in, and according to it your site is hosted in Houston, TX (not far from me, in fact). I hope where you live there are no government-imposed internet limitations. For example, in Saudi Arabia (and correct me if I'm wrong), they don't have much of a problem with piracy, but just try to get into a sex site. As for your keyboard, is it like the ones I saw in Taiwan, i.e., they're regular qwerty keyboards but on the left hand side of the letter there is a Chinese character, such that you can use it either way? And as I asked before, when you set your KB to Arabic, does the cursor automatically go to the right side of the document so you can type from right to left -- and back when you switch to English?

I see. Is this just for TPB or do you use these trackers to upload to other sites as well? Or do you upload ONLY to TBP? As you know, there are sites (such as Bitsoup) which put "uploads 0" in red letters at the top, but if you try to upload anything they don't let you, you have to be some sort of super user (or whatever they call it). I copied your list of trackers to a text file.

I'm in Palestine right now.
Yes, when I switch to Arabic the cursor goes to the right side of the document :) Interesting, huh?
Regarding torrents, I use these trackers for any site, not only TPB. But some sites use their trackers (such as Demonoid).

I imagined that Windows 7 fixed the problem of the cursor moving on the right side of the document for those languages that are read from right to left. I'm saying this because back in the days of XP, one of the girls at work wanted to see how her name in Arabic would spell, so she added Arabic from Control Panel and the cursor stayed where it was. She ended up spelling her name backwards, and even then she assumed (probably incorrectly) that the letters of the Arabic alphabet were the ones that corresponded (or came close) to those on her Latin alphabet keyboard.

I guess you gotta check with the site to see what their trackers are before uploading anything. Also, I assume holding on to a torrent file from that site to see what torrents are on there may not work because trackers come and go.

Now, you'll forgive me but my curiosity is killing me. As you're well aware, politically speaking there is presently no such country as Palestine. What used to be Palestine before the Jews declared statehood in 1948 encompassed what is today the state of Israel, the West Bank of the Jordan River, and Gaza. May I ask, given especially given that you have fast internet access and a site hosted in the U.S. and speak at least 3 languages (possibly even Jewish), do you live in what is politically Israel or on the West Bank or Gaza? I know for a fact that although many Arabs were expelled from their homes by the Jews, and even here we see on TV how the Zionists go in with their bulldozers to Arab homes and tear them down to build settlements (this makes me so mad). Despite all this, knowing there are also many Arabs that stayed in Israel and are, in facts, citizens of that country. This is not to start a political discussion and I haven't forgotten you run a computer-oriented, politicially-religiously neutral site, but despite all this I said, I only have one question -- which of the above corresponds to you and what city do you live in? If I don't recognize it immediately, no sweat,  I'll look it up in Google Maps.

Remember, this is based on curiosity only and nothing else.

As for me in case you're curious, I am Cuban. My father worked as an official in the pre-Castro government, so we had to leave the country immediately (I was almost a baby at the time). We ended up in Miami, where I lived until I was finally able to sell my house in May and we moved to San Antonio, which is a lot nicer and not too far from where you site is hosted  :)

Maher

This is not a problem to be fixed! The cursor should go the other way if you want to write in Arabic.
You can still do that without the cursor moving the other way anyhow!
Don't know how to explain it well, but this is not a problem :)

As we are in a chit-chat forum, it's okay, you don't have to worry.
You're right. There is not a country called Palestine at the moment, but we still say we're Palestinians and live in Palestine.
I live in Qalqilia (you will find alot about it in Google). It's a small city in West Bank.
If you read the news, this month our president is going to the UN to apply for a statehood, we're people without a country!! And the world must act.
Look how the US government will act:

I found the small city you live in and I was surprised by how close it is to what is politically the State of Israel proper (i.e., not including the occupied West Bank) You could probably throw a rock from your house and it would end up in Israel :). I'm always curious, so le me ask you -- how fast an internet connection does your ISP give you? Naturally I refer to the maximum up and down, which is how ISP's sell them -- I realize that due to the nature of the internet, if you check it with speedtest it'll rarely be that fast, but as you know the ISP doesn't control that.

You know, I am so fed up with things that happen that I almost don't even watch the news anymore. The example you mentioned is a perfect example of what I mean. Of course I'm not surprised -- the U.S. is really ruled by the Military Industrial Complex (many Jews are in it), and the President's real power is kind of like the Queen of England. Don't believe me? Look at what happened to Kennedy when he tried to stray. It must be stated that not all Jews (or Arabs, or Cubans, etc etc.) are bad, indeed I've had quite a few great Jewish friends. In fact, Maher, knowing how intelligent you are, it wouldn't surprise me to know that you had a conversation and became friends with an English (or Arabic) speaking Israeli soldier on patrol, or even had a Jewish girlfriend. It's always the same -- the rightgeous end up paying the sinner's wages.

Your people's struggle for statehood reminds me of my people's fight against the tyrant leader Castro -- it sometimes just seems so hopeless. Still, I admire your president's intentions, and I believe if Israel elects a more liberal government, a Palestinian state could become a reality. The only point where the Israelis will not give in is if your leaders insist on having Jerusalem as the capital. By the way, and before I forget -- when you travel to Russia or anyplace else, what passport do you use?

As for not speaking Hebrew, I'm surprised since a smart guy like you would know that speaking the enemy's language is an asset, not a liabillity. Indeed, Adolf Eichmann wanted and tried to learn Hebrew, unfortunately Hitler didn't let him.

We have fast internet here, don't worry :) But it's a little bit more expensive than in the US.
ISP offers internet connections up to 8 Megabits for home users, and up to 100 Megabits for companies!

I was born in Jordan.
I use my Jordanian passport.

Regarding Hebrew, I just haven't time to do it.
I was in Jordan, then Russia and now in Palestine.
I do not have enough time now.
