Yep. It's  Chromium based, almost identical to Chrome but without Chrome's  unique user ID so I don't have to run "Google Radar" or similar with it.
Unfortunately it doesn't have  an on-board Flash Player so  have had to re-install Adobe ( AFP from v 11 on chews up browsers on my pc ? so had to find an old version)
Also Iron has a  portable release and I didn't find any of the Chrome portables very good.
Main reason I prefer Chromium browsers is their layout and nothing to do with performance.
(Don't like Dragon, it's too security orientated, I had to change settings every time I wanted to do something new)

Does Iron have the vast library of add-ons Firefox has, or at least the most essential? How configurable is it? This morning I was looking at Chrome which is on the other computer, and one thing I noticed is how un-configurable it is. For example, I saw no way to adjust the cache, no way to convert the whole thing into private browsing (all you can do is surf "incognito", tab by tab), you can't make a link open in the same tab.. and so on and on and on. I detest non-configurable stuff simply because the default values are almost always set for morons who are clueless as to what's going on. All these reasons are why so far I haven't seen anything better than Firefox.

No  SRWare Iron  doesn't have many extensions or add-on's, but uses Chrome's.

Lucky for me  ;D  ::) When it comes to computers, I am a moron.
Also there is only me using this pc and even if someone else was using it I don't  much care if friends or family can see were I've been and I use  AVG PC TuneUp and Eraser regularly.
Have I missed the point here ?
I really don't do much with computers, just upload, download, search for info, a little artwork and manage my eBook and music library's.
I'm sure that for people who know what they are doing then FF is a  much more useful browser (pretty much everyone I trust on tech matters says so), but for me Chromium seems to do what I need.  :)

My use of the word "moron" wasn't right - the word is much too derogatory. Perhaps a much better term such as "computer challenged" is better. :)

You are NOT a moron, in fact not even close. What's more, there are no morons on this forum - not because someone throws them out, but because they themselves don't come back. They are allergic to learning or otherwise finding better ways to do things. Everything you've posted indicates to me that you are very computer literate.

As for browsers, I can't speak for Iron but I will tell you that my main beef with Chrome is it's lack of configurabilty. However, I am also the first one to tell you that in certain applications you'd probably be better off with it than with Firefox. My favorite example is Facebook IF you play their games. No matter how fast your internet speed might be, clearly Facebook is deficient on both bandwidth and server capacity due to it's high number of users. Here it makes sense to have a humongous cache so you won't have to keep asking the server to keep sending you all those game graphics over and over again. All it sends is basically what changed, the rest resides in cache. This is why people often report it's a fast browser. Indeed, very night when my old lady uses Ccleaner, it cleans out around 400 MB of Chrome cache. My cleanout cache with Firefox comes nowhere close.

So, OK maybe I'm not a moron, perhaps old duffer is closer  ;D

What I would like to know is why is it necessary to use Ccleaner or some such to clear one's cache, I use the browsers "clear browsing history" a couple or so times a day plus AVG PC TuneUp every 4 or 5 days, is that not good enough ?
Plus from using Chrome I got into the habit of saving my bookmarks and uninstalling my browser, then downloading another and am still doing it. (Was just being paranoid about the  "unique user ID" with Chrome)

Maybe it's just me being anal, but I'm one of these people who can't stand leaving stuff behind. I meticulously clean all caches, all history, call cookies, the registry, everything. I've been told that's not really necessary, but oh well... it's just me being me. At least my system runs OK.

Thanks for answering Humbert.

I was just trying to find out if the ways I clear browser cache are OK or if I could be doing it better.
Not questioning the wisdom of how you maintain your system. :-X

Proudly using chrome.

I heard chromium (chrome-based) is better in terms of privacy. Haven't tried it though.
