Quote from: scarface on June 04, 2022, 10:45 PMFor those who want to register to the forum, registrations are open again. I was informed by Maher a few minutes ago. I don't know how long it will last.

Guliver was trying to open an account. I had no idea you told Maher about it. He just told me about opening registrations. I'll send Guliver an email tomorrow morning. As soon as he does I'm going to advise Maher to close registrations again. If not we will be once again invaded by bots. It's a little bit like living in a warm climate without fumigating your home.

Hi, friends. I was a bit busy at my job, that's why I didn't respond for a time.

I have a question about medicine - how is the sale of antibiotics is regulated in Europe and US? A day before I got a trouble with buying simple antibiotic in a local drugstore, they just didn't sell it to me, said that I can't buy it without prescription, and, then, said that from now "all will be like in western countries".

Yes!! The reason is because the more these pathogens are exposed to antibiotics, the more resistant they become. There are already bacteria that are totally resistant to many, if not all, antibiotics.

How are things in Caнкт-Петербург? Hope all is well for you. Last I heard Mad Vlad has cancer and it's interfering with his thinking. Some press outlets have been reporting it and now it seems US intelligence confirmed it. Let's hope it's true and this madman dies ASAP.

Oh, I understand. That's not very good thing for me in this case. Because of very poor level of accessible medical services here. Well, here we have a free (by social insurance, as in USSR) medical services, and commercial clinics. Free clinics are totally **** - there is crasy queues and very low level of service (they mostly just registering our ills in papers, not healing). And it's very difficult to get a  prescription from them.
Commercial clinics was a good alternative (medics there were highly trained and quality of services were much better). But when economy started to fall (approx. at 2019) most of them were closed, and prices in clinics that not closed, are very high.

Well, not so good, comrade. Prices raised drastically (for food - from 20% for basic food to 1000% for european alcohol, for computer components - from 50 to 100%). Many products and services from West are inaccessible more.  Crimes raised, and a lot of it because of political hate. But Putin's rating is high - many people, mostly from 40 y.o. and older, supporting him. It's a kind of mass madness. Faschism as it is.

Let me ask: the support for Putin you mentioned. Did you read it in the press or is it your personal experience with people you talk to every day?

And yes you're correct regarding Fascism. Many people believe whatever the Fascist dictator tells them regardless of any hard evidence to the contrary. It is because of these useful idiots that the dictators can thrive and rule.

Here inflation is high, due to gasoline prices that are out of control. I've seen some selling at $1.259/liter. Last year at this time is was about 50¢/liter. Putin's war is only partially to blame, there are other more important reasons. I've looked into the possibility of getting an electric car or at least a hybrid. Unfortunately today getting an electric car is a little like buying graphics card.

No, not only in press. I understand what you suppose - but no. Many people, mostly at age 30-50 y.o. truly supporting Putin. They are from different social groups, with different income, but they are really many of them, about 40-50%. It's a kind of mass madness. I think that real fascism works just like this. When we think today, while watching documentary about nazi Germany, "how could progressive european country in 10 years turned into place where peoples burning books" - the answer is "like this, like in Russia today".

They are not idiots, that's the trouble. Many people, who I knows before as good, clever and active peoples (for example, deeply interested in space exploration) turned into a rabid dogs, full of hate. They are... Well... Like a believers. That's the trouble.

I think, that is a kind of bug in mass consesness, initiated by defeat in Cold War and fall of USSR. A bug generated by socialistic upbringing and psychology.

Well, that's not good. I sympathize with you - that is a trouble for dwellers of such automobilized country like US. Here on our side of the border is other trouble - most of spare parts for cars were european. So, most of imported cars slowly but surely going out of order. I'm looking to this with smile yet - my car is soviet-made, so it uses spare parts from military trucks, and I have no need to ride it every day. But the trouble is that our roads becoming more and more dangerous because of incorrectly repaired cars.

I believe it was Hitler who said "the bigger the lie, the more the people will believe it". Or maybe the correct quote was "any lie, if sufficiently repeated, will be believed". Totalitarian ideologies (Fascism, Communism, religions, etc.) begin with control of information. The seize all news outlets and have them echo their propaganda, which is repeated endlessly. They also make absolutely sure the other side of the story is never heard. I believe you said people in Russia have no access to Western news outlets, especially when it refers to Ukraine. It's entirely possible that few people in Russia know Zelensky is a Jew. Even in Russia everyone knows there is no such thing as a Jewish Nazi.

"Idiots" in the sense that they don't question what they're told and believe just about anything. You don't fall into this category. Despite where you live and the endless barrage of propaganda, you essentially agreed that Putin is basically a fascist. Sadly people like us are a small minority. This is why dictatorships are so successful.

I hate the fact that here you absolutely have to have a car and that public transportation is very bad or totally nonexistent. And congrats on your car. OK, maybe it's not as prestigious as an imported car but hey, you have access to parts, the other guys don't.  ;)  Here I'm trying to see how I can get my hands on an electric car, or at least a hybrid. Today I saw somebody with an electric car. I asked him about it and he loves it. And, of course, he doesn't care about the price of gasoline.

Yesterday there was an article in the Washington Post evoking the heatwave in Texas. I hope that humbert is not too hot. Today, there is also a heatwave here. I'm working at home and I turned on the fan. It's also important to stay hydrated when it's hot.

Sorry to butt in on your discussion, but I feel I can help you (humbert) understand this a bit more. The interpretation of the word nazi is a bit different in Russia. When people from "western countries" hear the word nazi, they imagine the holocaust, the attempt to exterminate all the jews. For many russians (not all of them, but a significant majority), what comes to mind is "they invaded us, they tried to conquer our country and take our territory by force, they killed our people", and very often also "they came from europe". In short, in the west "nazi" means "against jews", while for many russians "nazi" means "against us" (even though the nazis were also against a large part of the western world). So, the idea of "naziness" is not as intrinsically linked to jews and the holocaust, and it is instead interpreted and used more generally, in extreme cases to mean "anything and anyone who is against us and comes from the west/south-west". That is why the concept of a "Jewish Nazi" is not something immediately nonsensical. It was not too long ago that Sergei Lavrov, russian foreign minister, said "So what if Zelensky is Jewish. Some of the worst antisemites are Jews". And what he said was so silly, such a mistake not just in terms of factual accuracy but also in terms of the effect his words had, that Putin himself had to apologize to Israel's PM, Naftali Bennett. But the fact remains that Zelensky being a jew doesn't matter, whether ordinary people in Russia know that or not won't change their conviction that Ukraine is somehow "nazi" and needed to be "denazified", certainly not those russians who believe state media. It was never about Jews.

Is my explanation correct, Daniil?

Scarface: Don't even mention the heat wave  :). Daytime and afternoon temps are anywhere from 38° to 41°C, day after day after day. My air conditioning runs nonstop. I paid over $250 in electricity (1,447 kWH) last month and I would not be surprised if it hit $300 next month. As you know I deliver food a few hours a day on the side. Fortunately the car has good A/C and dark tinted glass, but even so when you're parked it can get hot as hell. At this point I'd be happy with 30°C.

BTW, my bill also include 22.65 m³ in gas. In summer it's just for water heater. In winter it's for the water heater and heating for the house. Naturally it's much higher in winter. The electric and gas company are one and the same.

Guliver: Never say you're "butting in". This is a public forum where EVERYONE has the right to be heard. This applies especially to you. If the brief time I've known you it's clear you are a very smart, well-informed guy, and, in my opinion, an asset to our forum. We NEED users like you. I'm glad you posted what you did. None of what you said even remotely crossed my mind. Upon reading your post it's clear you're absolutely right. Naturally I would like to hear Daniil's opinion, but I'm certain he'll agree. When you have an opinion, by all means speak up.
