That's far from optimal. You can simply download the Jan 2015 iso when it comes out and run that for more than a year. It depends on how you use your computer and how you take care of it(software wise).

humbert

gujjar & vasudev -> You're not answering my question. Unless there's something terribly wrong with my logic, it makes more sense to download updates as to downloading a full ISO every few months. Not only are we talking less overall bandwidth use, but also you have to reinstall the new ISO from scratch. That is, of course, unless it's possible to install the new one over the ood one. All this not to even mention the old stuff you're still using has unpatched security holes.

So far none of you guys have expressed a good enough reason for not downloading updates. Naturally I'm excluding personal taste, which of course doesn't involve logic. Also note this: "good enough reason" is defined as generally a better idea, one which the rest of us could use too.

Humbert -> I started updating win 7 couple of months back, but then things started to mess up windows, I think its because of old update files accumulating over & over causing inconsistency. So I stopped using windows update as I cannot re-install windows everytime  when something breaks during updating which could introduce new errors while  programing.

I think updates are faulty as they run on old hardware or it is better to try new OS  possibly win 10.

Vasudev

Yes Fuj I've learned it the hard way "Never update windows because it is ought to break after update".
I've to reinstall win 7 again in Jan after dl maherz jan edition through torrentz.
Can't take risk while programing in Ms VS.

humbert

This is the first time I've ever heard anything about updates wrecking your system. I've been updating Windows online almost since the introduction of broadband (i.e., non-dialup) internet, and not once have I had a problem. Bleachbit cleans out installation files once updates are installed.

Let me ask this - when you guys install a new slipstreamed ISO, is it possible to simply install it over the old one? If not, then as I see it having to reformat, reconfigure, reinstall apps and reconfigure them is a major headache.

Vasudev

Humbert -> Those updates started wrecking my system after MS released series of botched up updates for 7 & 8. I guess windows update might have installed those updates, I dont even remember KB numbers for those updates.
I've to re-install the slipstreamed OS from scratch :'(

Gujjar -> I am not a highly skilled programer or a geek, I do lite programing on C,C++,.Net(Yet to start learning & developing),Python,Shell programing.
For C,C++,.Net I use visual studio and GCC.

I'm like humbert, I doubt the updates of windows will prevent the compilation of vasudev's programs.
If he's using visual studio 2012 , maybe he ought to download the compiler november 2013 ctp, and use it because it can make visual studio compatible with the last C#. If you try to compile certain programs, and notably dc++, which have now some lines in C#, you will need it.

Vasudev

I'm using Visual Studio 2013 update 3 Ultimate Edition
