I dont know if maher uses sysprep for his release but if he does, he should consider integrating net 4.5.
Harkaz, a specialist in that matter had made good suggestions and even a release but some posts were unfairly removed.

.NET 4.5 is (fortunately :P) not required when syspreping the installation :)
I believe that Maher adds updates offline (probably with MDT or similar tools) - I have not downloaded the ISO to check it though. (There is a simple way to do it though, after installing Windows go to Control Panel->Programs and Features->View installed updates. Check when updates are installed. If the installation date coincides with the installation date, then "slipstreaming" is done via offline servicing of updates - because updates are installed during the first pass of installation.

Scarface had a problem when he tried to install Windows with some components permanently removed. It seems that the problem derives from the fact that updates are installed during setup. Specific updates require special component files to be present, in order to be installed. Since some of them have been deleted during customization, installation of updates cannot continue and Setup fails.

I believe it would have been better if Maher's instalation image was syspreped. If Maher adopts this idea, I am keen to help by providing a tutorial I have already prepared.

Cheers and Regards

I know Net 4.5 is not required for sysprep. and indeed the problem of removing components must be linked with updates since its not the case with a bare sp1.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

a request for maher to add net 4.5 was anyway useless since its almost sure he doesnt use sysprep.

to the specialist harkaz: this tutorial is probably better than yours: http://theitbros.com/sysprep-a-windows-7-machine-start-to-finish-v2/

This tutorial is well written. There are, however, two things I did not like about it:

  • It uses unattend.xml. This should be an optional step, as many users (including me) don't need to make changes to Windows defaults. There is no need to do such changes while you are creating the image. The whole process can be done offline, as one would do with a normal Windows installation
  • It does not provide an effective method to reset WPA. Setting SkipRearm to 1 is not a solution. My method has a small "problem" however it resets WPA rearm remaining count not to 3 times but to 5!
