Post by: aa1234779 on October 26, 2012, 05:10 PM
Hellos to you all

Besides meddling around with windows xp, 7, 8 or whatever software... What do you guys & gals play nowadays on  your PCs..'

Starting by myself.. Doom 3 BFG edition.. I played I & II back in 90s & 3 is a great game for catching up that has been tweaked & improved..

What are you playing?

Hello, comrade.  :)

Well, he-he... My main "game" at last three month was Eclipse IDE for PHP. :) That was a LOT of work, lol! :)

As for true games - my favorites today between FPS is Unreal Tournament (2k4 and III) and Operation Flashpoint - last one mostly because of it enormous modding and editing abilities (ArmA as well, but now it isn't set on my PC); in RTS - WH40k DoW series, I have them all and very like to play it. I also like hardcore avia- and spacesims very much, I playing MSFS 2k4 or Orbiter 2k10 every Saturday. (Today I was frustrated by my joystick, look like my Logitech don't want to work in ForceFeedback mode, damn!)
In mass, my gaming interests is for search non standart, interesting, or extremely exciting, outstanding games (well outstanding means that they are outstanding for me, not for game observers from journals :) ). If I found something like this, I put this game in my collection.

Actually, I'm not play a lot. Before last year I played much more, but then I understand that long gaming is (as for me, don't know how for other people) a try to hide myself from problems and prevent me to live real life. And because of this, I stopped to play a lot, and now playing mostly at weekends.

I'm not much of a gamer, but Diablo III is one game I've been in love with since the first edition was released years ago. I'm simply hooked on it. A strong graphics card would help tremendously.

Currently I have Leauge of Legends, as my whole class plays it we have created a new ranked team.
Otherwise; Garry's mod, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Battlefield 3(even if it lags^^), Counterstrike Source, and more, but my friends usually call me out to play games together, so I usually get controlled by them.
Currently I'm just fooling around trying to make Ubuntu run properly on a thumbdrive.

Give me an idea of some games out there that aren't first person shooters or first person anything. The notion of looking forward as if I were holding a gun and moving around looking for targets makes me dizzy.

If you like MOBA's you'd probably like Dota2 or League of legends. Also, Euro Truck simulator is first person, but I'm pretty sure you won't get dizzy because well.. It's a well made game in my own opinion.

I found Dota2 on Steam. After searching Google I found MOBA and League of Legend. On screenshots of Dota2 I'm noticing the characters and the action are pretty close. I prefer looking at the action from slightly higher, as is the case with Diablo or Sims?

I've only played DotA1 (On warcraft 3 TFT) so I cannot answer that. It's actually something you'll get used to quite rapidly, when I've been playing warcraft 3 for a while I have a bit of a headache having my characters as close as they are when playing league of legends. And maybe you can zoom in and out in DotA2? I don't know. I think you're able to type -zoom2000 in DotA 1 still, not sure maybe it's the same on DotA 2?

At last 4 months I had no time to play games - I had re-organise my business, I finished my freelance coding business and with partners built a programming school. We're teaching application programming languages, web-design (HTML/CSS/JS/PHP), designing robots, using 3D-printers and so on. Also I think about one other, very big and interesting project, but... Till the time, it's a secret.  ;D

Now I have a time again, and I surprisingly found very interesting game. It's a Kerbal Space Program. I'm becomes a crazy fan when it's about space exploration, and KSP takes my heart.
But I must warn you. This game requires some knowledges of rocket science. It's not hard for me, because I'd interested with this since 12 y.o.. But for new people it can be difficult. Also, for those who are experienced rocketeers, this game could be too unrealistic. It calculates some space effects in simplified, incorrectly manner.

I find KSP very hard to get out of space, So instead of normal things I make it do cool loops and such :P (Good thing about the game is that it is fully functioning in ubuntu)
Also I'm taking courses in IT - Data, meaning I will get to know HTML/CSS/JS/PHP/MySQL/Linux/Windows/Android etcetc..
3D printers can print guns, can you do that with the one you have available?? Would be super cool if you could  8)
If you're interested in super cheap games, check out humblebundle.com now and then, they sell tons of games super cheap. I paid 1€ for like 7 games. 1-2 weeks ago they sold mirrors edge BF3 burnout paradise sims 3 etc, for 4.6€ or $ cant remember. I bought the last bundle (weekly) which contained; War of the roses, Warlock - master of the arcane, the showdown effect, Leviathan Warships, Europa Universalis III Dungeonland. It's plenty for so little. If you added like 3€ you'd get 2 other more expensive games. And it all goes to charity or to humblebundle to keep giving cheap games. Also, on sale on steam there's a game called Gnomoria I'd suggest, and Euro Truck Simulator 2 for some relaxation, it's a really chill game.
If anyone wants to add me on Steam; spore_lol_spore, on origin; CenoX5 (Me and my cousin when playing BF3 he calls himself GenoX5, so people mix us up^^)
If anyone wants something hard to beat, or rather stimulating for the brain; Portal, 1 and 2, they're great games.

Well, KSP is just realistic. You should low your speed before you can dig in athmosphere, and, because of this, you should corretly calculate fuel mass before you start the mission (fuel mass in orbital vessel must be enough to lower its speed in bounds of 1,25-1,5 km/sec. i.e., from 2250m/s to about 1100m/s). Then your vessel will start to loose height and falls on planet via ballistic trajectory.

As for 3D-printers - yes, we can create guns, but this is not a good guns. Well, it's not serious - it's one-timed and very fragile, you can't be trusted in its barrel. Also after a first shot plastic from barrel insides will burned out, you can't shot again.
3D-printers indeed a cool thing, but it's cool for fast-prototyping, or for creating arts, for example, anime action figures.
We can built other guns using a processing machinery, that's much better choice. Gauss-rifle, powered with condensators from PC power blocks, EMP mine, based on tesla coil and cell phone battery,  microwave gun (big reflector+mangetron from big microwave used in shaurma (kebab) fastfood)... Also, classic SMG for 9mm Makarov shell is much better choice than 3D-snotted gun. Or, to be absolutelly correct - we could built, but our lathe was broken two days ago because of one idiot.  :)

I'm not interested in cheap games - I downloading games from torrents, check them, and then buy games if I like it. For example, I did that with WH40k series (except the "SpaceMarine", I not bought it yet), or selected Tomb Raider games (except the last, I don't like how Lara in last TombRaider looks), or Armed Assault (I'm its fan since the first Operation Flashpoint  ;D ) Also, I'll buy KSP when mexican guys will finish it.

@Daniil - I am firmly convinced 3-D printers are the thing of the future. This technology is barely in its infancy, and yet I read once that surgeons saved a boy's life by printing a trachea for him. Mark my words - this thing will be as important as the invention of the wheel.

Yes, comrade, you're correct. I can agree with you that 3D printers is the future of local production. But there is some restrictions of this technology, which must be noticed:
-3D printers can't be used in a mass production, because of slow production speed (we had calculate speed of creating a box for bycicle electric system, and while printer prints 1 box, matrix press makes about 100 boxes)
-3D printers can't use wide range of materials. Yes, it can print plastic, even metal, but it can't combine. And, for example, car engine parts created from about 5 different metals. So, you can't print it whole thing, you need to assemble it from parts.

The main achivement of 3d printing is creating things directly from 3d models. It's fascinate.

I watched the whole documentary, you CAN do it, but it will be hard to make a gun shoot many guns. And as said some pieces might not be able to be printed out

That's a bit stupid documentary, dear Shadow.
Take a look - they prints only a pistol grip and that lower part where magazine reciever exists. But! As I know, in real M-16 this parts is also made with plastic! All other parts - barrel, springs, gas tube, and other and other - is a "stock" metall parts, created on a generic factory. And of course it can endure only 600 shots. Because of "default" plastic for this parts is much, much stronger than plastic from 3D-printer.
So-o... That "3D printed AR-15" looks like a dumb joke.

@Daniil - you keep forgetting that 3-D printer technology is barely in its infancy. Believe this: as time goes by, this technology will improve exponentially and the 3D printer will end up being one of the greatest inventions in history. As a quick analogy, computers built before 1990 did not even have the processing power to play an mp3 song. Technological history is full of similar examples. Wait and see.
Title: Re: What games are you playing?
Post by: Daniil on September 07, 2013, 03:30 AM
I don't forget about this, dear humbert. I agree with you that 3-D printer is greatest invention of our days.
I just said, that in case of this AR-15 this was a stupid usage of 3-D printing.
To make good things with it, designer must know strength of materials very well, and he must calculate each printed parts very well (especially how it will resist loads). As I can see in our lab, many guys who use our printer, printed very fragile details. For example, last week they printed propeller for boat motor. Propeler looked very good, very simple and effective... But... Two days ago they comes back to us, and showed remains of propeller. The blades was cut out by incoming water flow. There's also a marks of cavitation effect on a rests of blades. I took a look - that's all was expectable, because this students made blades for plastic propeller like for a steel one - very thin at a root. Plastic blades must be much wider at a root, almost as wide as propeller hub.

Post by: humbert on September 09, 2013, 09:52 PM
@Daniil - you are absolutely correct that anything made by a 3-D printers must be done correctly and with all important details taken into account. I also strongly agree that at this point in time the technology is not perfected, and the proper "inks" and ways to use them don't exist just yet. Believe this: this situation will change, and much faster than people anticipate. Just to give you an idea, I read that Windows 8.1 will now support 3-D printers. This opens the door to all these scientists and engineers to begin creating better ways, and this technology will rival the wheel in its benefits to humanity.

If you could travel back in time only 5 years and told somebody that printing a gun in your home would soon become possible, would they have believed you?

Did you know that a year before Viagra was accidentally discovered, the best scientific minds truly believed that creating such a drug was not even possible?
Title: Re: What games are you playing?
Post by: Daniil on September 10, 2013, 01:07 AM
@humbert: Yes, shure. If Windows began to supporting 3D-printers "by default", it would be greatest Widnows doing ever.
I want to print new handle for my air pistol on 3D-printer. BTW, 3D-printers doesn't use simple 3D-models, like you can create in 3DMax, for example. It uses formats for solid-body modelling, for example, .stl.

For starters they make me a little dizzy, as if the image on the screen was moving around all the time. I also don't like the fact that you can only see forward. In [for example] Diablo III, you look at your character and your enemies all from above and get a clear picture of where everything is.

No I just test them.
The link I gave above is not just a mod, it doesnt require the game to be installed.
Try these ones too:
This one contains very good landscapes (Egptian). Its not very hard.
http://crymods.net/e107_files/downloads/SHADOWMAN.exe
This one is much harder, some level are hard to finish without devmode:
http://crymods.net/e107_files/downloads/Catalyst%20Aftermath.exe
(https://i.ibb.co/sP78j0q/618368-Far-Cry0005.jpg)
In this level after having put the bomb in the vessel you have to go out and hide in the water in a small creek, however I didnt find the path, I used devmode.

This is a good example of why I don't particularly like first person shooters. Notice there is only one view angle - you have no clue about what's behind you nor any other direction. How do you even find that enemy ship if it moves away from your viewing angle? Do you just pivot again and again?
Title: Re: What games are you playing?
Post by: Daniil on November 12, 2013, 01:36 AM
Scarface, thanks, I'll try them. I like FarCry (maybe not so much as ArmA and STALKER, but objectively FarCry is better than this two, it has easier gameplay than ArmA and almost no glitches in difference with STALKER).
Humbert, I never even thought about a problem you said. It's easy to turn left and right up and down with mouse, so I turns from side to side and watch around. Yes it's sometimes difficult when you can't watch to sides, but in most cases it's no matter.
BTW in ArmA you can watch to sides, but this feature has almost no use.

Title: Re: What games are you playing?

I've seen people with 2 monitors, never 3. I currently have a 24" 1920x1080 monitor, and frankly I don't know how I could install a 2nd one. Not only is there no space on my desk, but I feel my head would constantly be moving right-left-right like watching a tennis game or constantly saying no. Even worse for a 3rd one.

Speak of the devil - in order to set up a 2-monitor display, do you need a 2nd video card or can you do it with just one if it supports SLI or Crossfire? My board supports a 2nd video card, but the data bus is cut in half (i.e., x16 for one card becomes 2 × x8).
Title: Re: What games are you playing?

I have 2 monitors - main 19" 1440x900, second 17" 1024x768. I use 2 videocards. It's not  for gaming (I playing games only on main monior, very rare on all two) - it's very usefull for programming (you have IDE on one monitor and language documentation on another).
Yes, bus cuts in half but in practice I don't feel this - 8x is enough for any games which can run on my PC. But modern videocards can support dual monitors even on one videocard.
In order to set 3-monitor you need 3 video-outs or very expensive box for convertation signal from one video-out to three monitors.

Ehm, what?
I got my AMD 280X today,(huge bottleneck I know) And it is supposedly be able to run 6 monitors, (With lag probably)
But I've ran 3 monitors on my old graphics card which was far worse.(GeForce 320GT)
Anyways, it's really fun to play games like battlefield 3 on ultra :) 17 - 0. Can't touch this!

My current card supports up to 5 cards if  I remember correctly, use a divider on the displayport (external source, don't take my word for it)

I also have nvidia 9200 onboard graphics which I obviously don't use.

Also, does anyone of you use Raptr?

Been playing dirt 3 tons lately and Euro Truck Simulator 2, Battlefield 3, almost quit League of Legends now when I've rediscovered some great forgotten titles that I have.

This is interesting. I have an nVidia GT-640 which runs OK. What I didn't know what that on this card I can run as many as 3 monitors (according to Shadow) by connecting one of each of its ports (HDMI, DVI-D and VGA).

Also - did you say that if you ran a game using 2 or more monitors, you can have a 180° or higher view of what's happening? For example, if you're running a first person shooter, you can see to the right and left without having to move your character's field of view? Or is it that the game has to support this sort of thing?

@Shadow - I just had a look at your new video card (AMD Radeon R9 280X). Why do you say there's a huge bottleneck? According to the specs this thing is cutting edge. It's also expensive as hell. I'm wondering how you hook up 5 monitors to it when it's got only 4 ports.

You know something? I have an old LCD monitor sitting back there in my garage and I'm thinking what if I hooked it up as a 2nd monitor? My 1st question is about resolutions. Can my 1st monitor continue to run at 1920 x 1080 while the 2nd one runs at less than that?

If you only use 2 monitors it can be hard to get it fullscreen or you will most likely get the crosshair in the middle that will say between the monitors. You could potentionally have an 8K resolution screen and a 300x400 resolution screen.

It is a huge bottleneck my CPU cant hold the latest games.  (BF4 for example) on high / ultra settings. In BF3 I run at ultra except Anti alicing which is X4 and it only runs on 40 fps in avarage. Feels smooth though.
Another thing I wouldn't suggest you hook up screens of different height as it is annoying when moving cursor across the screen.

There is a thing I think you would like it is a 1920x1080 but double width on a single monitor. I dont know what they are called though.

The top port of the graphics card allowes a cable splitter. A cable that splits 1 cable to 2 and aparantly you can have different images on them

@Shadow - why would you run out and buy a top-of-the-line video card knowing full well you were going to have a mismatch with your current CPU?

So basically when running multiple monitors, your best bet is to have them the same size, or at least the same height? Also, for games preferably use 3 keep the crosshairs in the middle? Do you get good side views on 3 monitors?

Planning to upgrade CPU soon, but it still almost maxes out everything so I'm happy.

Also, yes, it's the best, but you can place the monitors sideways, so that they are portrait to get same resolution/size.
Yeah, if you got 3 monitors it's in the middle.

@Shadow - I'm curious about something if you don't mind telling us. The video card you bought is expensive. I'm pretty sure the CPU you're planning to get isn't cheap either. We're talking some heavy money. Given your chronological age and the fact that you're in high school, do you work? How do you manage to pay for all this?

If you think the question is a little too personal, OK, I respect that. Pls accept my apologies for asking. My curiosity got the best of me.

Hello, guys!
Working as an employee has its specific profits, unlike the business - you have a time for your hobby. :) Before the beginning of the session in the university and while it's cold and windy out at street, I spent this day playing modded ArmA Cold War Assault (ex Operation Flashpoint).
It's my own "mod", mixed from many mods for this great game. A background is, well... Somewhere in the Baltic Sea there is four islands, and on this isles from time to time ignites a wars. There was a local war between USA and USSR (it was described in default campagin of Operation Flashpoint) on isles, now there is a local war between USSR and Imperium from Warhammer40k universe.
(Yes, I'm crasy, I know. ;D But I like a WH40k game series, and there is a WH40k mod for Operation Flashpoint, and I like Operation Flashpoint and I'm interested in military history of my country, in specific, military history of late-USSR period, so-o-o-o-o...)

@Daniil - you who like military games, I think there's one out there called America's Army. The US military uses it to train soldiers and, I believe, is a free download. Check it out at http://americasarmy.com (http://americasarmy.com). As you correctly said, war is war, but in this one the Commies are the good guys or what?

The one you posted pictures about is basically a first person shooter, right? It's not like Starcraft where you are basically a general commanding an army but not part of it.

Already. That's a good shooter, and for a time we with friends played it (about 3-4 years ago). But it's much simplier than OFp/ArmA series. It's too... shooter. (But it is very good propaganda, there isn't shown grim sides of war, such as suspense, indeterminacy and so on. There is mostly acts of bravery, shown very tasty.)

As you correctly said, war is war, but in this one the Commies are the good guys or what?

Things are more difficult and complex, comrade. :) In fact, here is no "good side" or "bad side", there is East and West sides. So it's relative from mission to mission. In default campaign (so called "Cold War Crysis" the bad guys is communist renegades, betrayed the USSR and engaged the islands in the north Europe). In user created campaigns the bad guys variations is outnumbered - from Confederates (from US Civil war) to Empire from StarWars (it's mad but for OFp exists also the StarWars mod, yes. :) )
It is, at the first glance, a first person shooter, yes, but in fact you are able to command 12 units in your squad, and command other squads over the radio, travel around big (12x12 km) islands, also you are able to drive a cars, APCs, tanks, fly on choppers and planes, creating you own missions and planning a large military operations.

That is because the Operation Flashpoint (other name - Armed Assault) isn't just a shooter (like an America's Army). It is full-scale military simulator, created in two versions - one for a private users, and one for NATO as a combat simulator for training junior officers and special forces. Military version is called VBS (Virtual battlespace) or JCOVE for operators in Europe. You can download official british version of JCOVE Lite (for free) here (http://www.jcove-lite.co.uk/). Civilian version called Operation Flashpoint (also called Armed Assault 1. There also exists ArmA 2 and 3).  Differences between the versions are very small - military version has much better (correct) models, some additional commands for AI and special security for save classified content.

@Daniil - we have a slight misunderstanding. Here in America, "good guys" means you, "bad guys" means the enemy. That's all, nothing more.  :)  This could be in a game or in real war, it doesn't really matter.

It makes perfect sense that America's Army glorifies war and plays down the many other grim consequences. If you use it to train soldiers you can never mention the bad things in war. Who will want to fight if you do? And of course, if a government wrote it, you can believe it'll be full of propaganda.

There is no question that many of these games are useful for training military officers, and possibly soldiers of lesser rank.

Oh, you're right, comrade Humbert, now I understand you. :) I was under the influence of Hollywood stamps - in most of US movies shown here, "good guys" means in most cases US, and "bad guys"==="communists (mostly russians)". I thought, that in US it's an identical concepts. ;D

That's relative, comrade. There's may be a mistake. Soldiers must be trained not only to run and shoot well, but also for psichological thoughness, to endure the privation of war. All of us here (in ex-Warzsaw Pact countries) raised in such doctrine. Chzech game developers well passed it in the OFp.

There is no question that many of these games are useful for training military officers, and possibly soldiers of lesser rank.
I think that it's mostly for officers. Soldiers must trained firstly physically, and OFp/AA is for training well interaction between squads and "the sence of landscape".

which win is better for gaming on too older pc, choice is between win 7 x64 & 8 x64?

pc details are here:
-  hp workstation xw6200
- single Intel xeon processor 2.8GHz.
- 4GB RAM.
- Total available Video Memory=2048 MB (dedicated Video Memory=265MB, shared system memory 1792MB).
I've found that games run best under Ubuntu as long as you don't need to use an emulator. I actually don't know which OS suits your computer the best. Good luck in the search though :)

@shadow-> Give me some examples of a few games available for Linux. Also, did you pay for them? I realize today it's hard to get games you don't pay for because with many you have to log into a server, be it Steam, Uplay or whatever else. I agree that emulation is garbage for games and many other things. I've noticed that under Wine the only Windows apps that run OK are portable ones.

@mangujjar -> Microsoft keeps saying with 8 and 8.1 are less taxing on older systems. I've run both on my old laptop and frankly I'd have to agree. For that reason I honestly believe that for games on a Windows system, you're better off with 8.

First; Euro Truck Simulator 2, I love that game.
Second; The Counter strike series.
Third; Portal 2.
Fourth; Warcraft 3(Must be used with emulator what I am aware of)
Fifth; Europa Universalis IV
Sixth; Minecraft
Seventh; Rust
Eighth; Starbound
Ninth; Terraria
Tenth; Metro Last Light
Eleventh; Garrysmod/TF2 and all of those.
Twelfth(?); Amnesia
Thirteenth; DotA 2
Fourteenth(?); Trine 2
Fifteenth; Quake live
Sixteenth; Crusader Kings II

The list goes on and on :) There's alot of games for linux, the problem is, do you like them enough to pay for them?(Some are free though)

How do you install them? With Linux sometimes this is tricky unless you're downloading straight from a repository.

I personally don't know how to crack games for Linux. All games I've really played on Linux is purchased.
And the counterstrike series is a bit lame in my opinion if you can't play on the real "official" servers. Never got that worked cracked on windows, so I only played it legally. Sorry. I can't really help.

That's the big problem with games nowadays. Almost everywhere to play it you have to log into some server with an account. And just about everything out there is MMO or with some multiplayer thing. You're the odd one out if you like to play with yourself.  (¿)

I have a Dendy. It's like 8-bit Nintendo Famicom (for many western forum members name "NES - Nintendo Entertament System" is better known), but it's Dendy. ;D
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/Dendy_Junior_with_cart_and_joypads.jpg (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bc/Dendy_Junior_with_cart_and_joypads.jpg)

To explain what I meant - Dendy is chinese pirated clone of Famicom, created for Russia at mid 90-th, and was selling in Russia as truly licensed registered (c) (r) (tm) and so on western game console. Nintendo many times tried to sue with company "Steepler" (which sells Dendy and mighty bunch of pirated game cartridges), but always had failed because of no laws was in 90-th. Also, Steeples, while it was selling pirated consoles and pirated games for pirated consoles, registered its trademark, and sues all other companies, which was dare to pirating Nintendo games in Russia. :) Well, we had very many fun in our country at 90-th... ;D

So, Dendy == Famicom == NES. I repaired my Dendy and play on it from time to time.

It's quite easy to modify them and rebuild the cabs. At least for Farcry it is.
Ive tried with office 2007 too but for some reasons when rebuilding the cabs in the media tables, makecab is failing. Since there is a digital signature in the original cabs, I don't know if it would work anyway.

You know that I only have one game on my computer, which is farcry. I downloaded it when it was released in 2004 and I never threw it away. However, I was a bit disturbed because this game was taking too much space on my ssd, that's to say 2,7 Gb not counting 200 mb of patches.
With the Greeks in europe, and now with more and more Syrians, we know that we can't keep everything, it's obvious. Nowadays, having space is without doubt a luxury.

You're still playing a game written in 2004? I just looked at a video of Farcry 4 on Steam's web site. I'm assuming the graphics on your game are terrible by comparison. Also - 2.7 GB is not too much space. I don't think anyone is making HDD's less than 1 TB, nor SSD's less then 128 GB. You can even get 128GB USB 3.0 flashdrives for a reasonable price.  And of course don't forget prices are dropping almost by the day.

Where are these Greeks and Syrians other than on the news? Are they all over Paris taking over what little space there is or what? Also, as you're aware, Europe has always been plagued by a lack of space. There are more people in the EU countries combined that there are in the USA, with probably 25% of the physical territory.

Well, "old school" games sometimes better than new. Modern game industry transforms to a Hollywood-like industry, where under bright cover and fluffy fluff hidden nothing. I mean, many modern games have too primitive and straight gameplay, and they are too easy. Many old games also primitive, but in difference from new, they was difficult.

I agree that today's games have a lot of "smoke and mirrors". But they're certainly more complex than they were 20 years ago.

And speaking of games, let me ask something. I just took a look at some screenshots of Thief on Steam's web site. If you wanted to buy the game and install it, would you first have to download and install the Steam launcher and use it to load the game? Could you get it elsewhere and not use Steam? Do all games force you to use some sort of launcher?
Title: Re: What games are you playing?
Post by: Daniil on January 15, 2015, 03:39 AM
@ Humbert
To buy and install the game you should use Steam app. I.e., you buying apps through the Steam. After you bought it, you can download it and it will automatically installed in a folder for steam applications (it's a subfolder of a Steam app folder, so if you have lack of space on C:\, install Steam on other disc.). Inside the folder of a game all is the same as when game installed from CD or p-rated image. 8)

Also, some thoughts about p-rating. Don't feed the monopolies, but support the developers. Relic studio (guys who made WH:Dawn Of War, WH:Dawn Of War 2 and WH:Spacemarine) was closed because they had not enough income - because all their games was p-rated and didn't bring them money. So, we never see WH:Spacemarine 2. And I feel sad and ashamed, because I also used p-rated copy of DoW...  :-\ So, continue p-racy, but if you find a game as jewel, support the guys who wrote it.

"p-rating" == "pirating" :)

Euphemism for prevent detecting you as user of unlicensed software by the government search engines (Yes, we despise them, but caution can not hurt.). Or, if you wish, a word of secret language of new pirates.

is there difference between fps & stealth games.
As for me, there IS difference.
Firstly, stealth action is most for stealth. FPS must be more for shooting (but, ofcourse, with stealth elements, or, if to say more correctly, it must allow you to use variety tactics).
Second, it must contains big battle scenes. Without this shooter isn't shooter.
Title: Re: What games are you playing?
Post by: humbert on January 16, 2015, 09:45 PM
Despite all the p-rating you hear about, monopolies such as Microsoft are still making billions in profits. What's more, Bill Gate$ perfected the notion of actually using the pirates get Windows to where it is today. This idea has trickled down to all software no matter who writes it. Accordingly, any developer who believes he's going to make money on his product is living in a world of fantasy. The hard fact is that 99.9% of people who get their hands on their product will not pay for it. As I see it, if developers can't live with reality this then don't write software.

Something else. Governments really don't care all that much about piracy. They're too busy chasing terrorists and other more dangerous criminals. They only act when entities such as the MPAA start complaining, and even then it's just to get these guys off their backs. Here in America there are NO internet restrictions at all - I can get on any site and download anything without using a VPN. They've talked about it many times but the government really has no interest in doing much of anything.

I was looking at this. How do you make your characters move around? I tried using the arrow keys and spacebar but it doesn't seem to work, and neither does the mouse.

The graphics look so archaic it's unreal. No need for SLI here  :)

Wow! That's very interesting. Looks like a synthesis of a grim french decadence and bad dream after Stanislaw Lem's "Tales of Robots". Is that a puzzle game or it's more quest?
Title: Re: What games are you playing?

I looked at the trailer and I'm not too clear on what the character is trying to do, or for that matter what the object of the game is.

Of course I don't like to buy software, and especially if it comes from a greedy monopoly like Microsoft or Apple. A lot of these games have no copy protection at all, BUT you must be online and have an non-free account to play it. I'm thinking maybe this game works that way too.

Just today finished "Ghostbusters - The Video Game".

It's awesome!
I'm Ghostbusters fan since childhood, "Ghostbusters" was first western film I saw, and "Ghostbusters 2" on NES was first video game I owned.
So, after I reset my file server, first game that I download was Ghostbusters The Video Game.
And - it was THE REAL Ghostbusters, but not even close to funny film or nice and fluffy NES game.
Ghostbusters grown up.
Graphics is good. It works great on SLI, and show very nice picture. (Note, that engine eat a lot of recourses of PC!) Ghosts and characters modeled very well.
Sound and actor voices is fascinating. They are true Ghostbusters, which I remember from childhood!
But - the game isn't funny and fluffy - the story is more grim and dark, the jokes is more adult (more about money and human weaknesses). And that's great!
Models of ghosts isn't so good, mostly they are not so memorable, but battles with them are very hard and difficult. Some places are almost impassable, you need not only agility and good mouse, but also attention and ability to think out fast.
Some places cannot be passed without applying your brain.
The best in the game is an atmosphere - locations is crazy and grim, they looks like a places from H.F.Lovecraft novels. It's great!
Greatest fail of the game - it's too short. Only 7 missions, that's not enough! 2-3 additional missions could save the situation, but without them after final battle remains the feeling of incompleteness.
But, anyway, it's a great game, I was glad to play it.

A game with cars will be presented soon. We know that humbert dislikes fps, but he might appreciate this one.
I suggest Project Cars. It's very expensive, but also very realistic. Another game I suggest is Euro Truck Simulator, I got about 90+ hours in it, which is quite good for a driving game.

Tonight, I'm going to present the game "Need for Speed Rivals", released in November 2013.
This game inserts gamers behind the wheel of both sides of the thin blue line, daring them to cross that line as either a cop or racer in order to gain any advantage in the street’s ultimate rivalry. Players decide between two distinct career experiences, each with its own set of high-stakes challenges, rewards, pursuit tech and cars. The intensity of the action is enhanced as a result of AllDrive, a feature that destroys the line between single player, co-op and multiplayer. Through AllDrive, friends are connected to one racing world where their races and chases can collide at any time.
I have not tested shadow.97's games but they are probably good too.

Yes, it's worth testing, if you have a decent graphic card.
But the game is a bit difficult. I wasn't brave enough to complete the game to have every car, so I found a .sav with all the cars.
There is one more car to unlock I think.

I'm playing a game from 1993 (yes, 1993, go ahead and laugh) called Master of Orion. It's a turn based, SF themed strategy game. "The purpose of the game is to lead one of ten races to dominate the galaxy through a combination of diplomacy and conquest while developing technology, exploring and colonizing star systems." I was never a huge fan of strategy games but I dimly remembered this one from a friend's PC when I was a kid and I knew it's still considered one of the top titles of the genre, so I looked it up and found there's a GOG release. When I tried it, I wasn't super impressed. I decided I don't really feel like learning the game and abandoned it. A few days later I was bored and decided to give it another chance. A few hours later I was completely hooked. I can't remember the last time I was so captivated by a game. I played it on Simple (easiest difficulty), which makes it too easy to defeat your opponents, but it's perfect for learning the game when you're a first-time player. Now I'm playing on Average and it's more challenging; you need to calculate your moves from the beginning and not waste turns. And there are lots of random variables in this game so it has a good replay value. Graphics is as what you might expect from a 1993 title, but I don't mind, eyecandy doesn't play a big role in this one. Strategy games age far more gracefully than action titles, that's for sure.

I made a light and portable repack of the game if anyone wants to take a look:

There are only 12 games in my upload, but all of them are detected and playable. It's obviously compatible with win 7 and 8, it was working on xp too. For information, I downloaded these games 14 years ago, lately I just added the 2 metal slug roms to test them, and updated winkawaks to 1.63...
To be frank, I never play these games, but I keep them somewhere in the computer.

The graphics certainly look pretty nice. And speaking of graphics, when is DX12 due out and/or when are the different games going to start supporting it? NVidia has already said that all cards series 600 and higher (I believe) will work with DX12 - it's just a matter of writing drivers and software.

Few games are working with dx12 currently, as Vasudev said. It will work if you have a high-end graphic card and windows 10. My own graphic card doesn't support dx12 completely, the geforce 800 series only supporting a few features of dx12.

I've bad news for Humbert, Nvidia does not support ASync shaders which is equivalent to AMD GCN. Without Async Shaders dx12 games run like hell on Nvidia. If you want to play games at HD  res just stick with dx11 games for now.

I did a Google search and found that while many NVidia cards do support DX12, for now they're not as good as AMD. I even read someplace that AMD's R9-290 performs better on DX12 than NVidia's GTX-980 Ti. I will bet borrowed money this situation will not last and NVidia will catch up before DX12 goes mainstream. It's not that I'm an NVidia fan, it's that I've seen this sort of thing happen so many times before.

To analogize, 4K is also slowly moving forward. I intend to wait a while before I upgrade my TV's and monitors. In fact, I'd have to check the specs but there are still many devices that don't even support HDMI 2.0.

However, I do believe this isn't the time to buy one. Almost all programming is in either 1080p or 1080i, not to mention 4KTV's are notoriously expensive. Tonight, I’m going to present the game Metro Last Light, released in 2013. It is one of the best fps of 2013.
The game now takes place in 2034 in Moscow, essentially in the subway but it’s not really the adaptation of the book Metro 2034 by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Indeed, Metro Last Light develops an original story which is a direct continuation of the first game and in which we find Artyom in pursuit of the last dark, a humanoid creature with psychic powers, having escaped the destruction of the nest in 2033. Dark corridors, crowded dormitories stations or an area trapped in the nuclear winter, Artyom will again see a lot of countries throughout his adventure. A journey that will still remain mostly underground but however not redundant. Each place has a meticulous care and an atmosphere and peculiarities of its own; some sets are breathtaking. It welcomes back the heavy and filthy atmosphere which gave the game its first interest.

The feeling of being an isolated prey in a hostile place or, conversely, being choked by overpopulation of the last bastions of humanity is perfectly rendered by effective staging and particularly flattering graphics rendering on PC. If some details are a bit out of place (eg sparse vegetation or certain textures), the title is based on the effects of lights and a controlled artistic direction. Despair literally oozes across the screen but also in all the little details of the background. From dialogues between the fighters to individual micro dramas through many references to the historical background of Russia (Stalinist communism, corruption), each element of Metro Last Light seems to naturally articulate with others to offer us a especially rich and coherent universe.
We have seen that humbert was pretty demanding concerning games, and despite the interesting story I don’t know if this game would match his expectations. Obviously, this game does not support dx12.

This game is only suitable for those 18 and over.
Here are a few screenshots. Warning: the ones deemed unsuitable will require you to click if you want to see the picture.

Great that comrade scarface doesn't forget about this topic!
I read Glukhovsky's "Metro 2033" novel when it wasn't yet printed (it was published freely at site of author, before he decide to print it). I don't played the game yet, but I will - I want to add it to my "post-apocalyptic" collection with Fallout series and new Mad Max game.

I can tell you about other game, game which seemed to me absolutely CRAZY! ;D

It is FACTORIO.
http://www.factorio.com/ (http://www.factorio.com/)
Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories. Looks pretty simple and boring, huh? Oh, no, you don't even imagine, what you will face in a game! You are colonist from Earth, arrived to far, unknown planet. You have some tools, knowledges and a goal to build a support for a new colony for people of Earth. And you begin to build an infrastructure.

You build a mine, an ovens, dig coal and iron, build electric generators, belt transporters, robots, optimize production rate, research new technologies... The game is highly addictive - I started it at the end of Friday... And stop it at end of Sunday, when my friend call me and said that I'm idiot and forgot to bring him one important thing for our project.
I tell him about FACTORIO... And he himself lost there for three days.
The game has hidden philosophical meaning - when you achieve main goals of the game (create infrastructure and build and launch the rocket with transmitter, which send signal about new colony to Earth), you stay alone in poisoned, toxic wasteland, covered with concrete, transporter belts, pipes and robots, in the center of giant factory, which works by itself without your control, and you, as a slave, only supports it and repairs it.
It makes you wonder.

I'm happy to see that Daniil is back on the forum. He always has interesting things to say.
If you play fallout 4, you can try to do a review. That's the game I wanted to test, but I don't feel like it.

I suppose the only bad thing about Daniil is he can't log in more frequently. :(  He is an asset to our forum.

Thank you, comrade. When I download Fallout4, I'll for sure post here a small review.

But now let's talk about another very good game - "Carnivores: Dinosaur hunter reborn".
The main idea of the game is very simple:
1) All of us likes to kill. ;D
2) Also, all of us likes dinosaurs.
3) So, let's kill some dinosaurs! 8)

This game is a remake (or a next part) of game "Carnivores-2", which was made at year 1998 (? I'm not sure) by small Ukrainian game development studio. I liked that game very much, even despite it was hardcore and unbalanced like hell.
"Carnivores-2" was a hunting simulator, where you can hunt herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs on a wide islands covered with forest. It had very beautiful graphics (for y. 1998), bad, flat sound, and was absolutely frightening and horrible, because it was not clean, who is the prey (i.e., it was difficult to understand, you hunting dinosaurs or dinosaurs hunting you). On the maps besides dinosaurs, you select to hunt, was unmarked dinosaurs, mostly carnivorous... And they was very hungry!

Today that studio was re-organized, and they made a next part of "Carnivores". Graphics becomes truly fascinating - they use modern engine (probably Havoc). Sound is also good - you can determine, where is a carnivore, which hunting you, and that gives you a miserable chance to hit it. They also add a correct "radar" - a device which you can achieve inside a game, which shows positions of any big dinosaurs on map. It is good countermeasure against sence of smell of dinosaurs. Unexpected carnivores on the map also exists, and they are more intelligent than before. There is only 3 types of weapons - "elephant" rifle, big crossbow, sniper rifle. (But more weapons is not required!)
So, if you tired of modern city life, you can plunge into the primal and hunt some dinos in this game.

Unlike wolfenstein new order, codaw, or metro last light, I didnt find fallout 4 interesting. In this game, a nuclear bomb is exploding, and then you are playing as a woman, only wearing panties, and wandering amidst the rubble. I stopped playing after one hour.
clearly, dont waste your time with this one, instead, you could review call of duty black ops3, I didnt play it, but it may be better.

Here are a few photos of a good game, the sequel of Metro Last light.
Like its predecessor, Metro 2033 redux takes place deep into the tunnels of Moscow's Metro. The world above is terrifying, but the sad truth is it's not much worse than life below.
In Metro redux, there are improved graphics and a new gameplay as well as totally different sequences.
Subtlety is what makes Metro 2033 and Last Light such exceptionally immersive games. They nail the core tenets of a shooter, then force you to react to enemies in ways outside of simply taking cover.

How many of these games support DX12? I bought myself a 4K monitor and NVidia GXT-970 video card so I was wondering. My favorite game (Diablo III) has no DX12 but it does support 3840x2160 @ 60 FPS. It looks absolutely stunning on my new system.

BTW - I do not have plenty of money. I have good credit. :)

When did you ditch 660 SLIs? Planning to buy Pascal GPUs in near future? Hitman Absolution, Far cry primal uses dx12.

I put the 2 old cards away. I'm not familiar with Pascal GPU. Let me check and see what games I get.

How hard is it to get credit in India?

When I've traveled outside the USA, some of the reasons I've found is (1) lack of economic solvency by the borrowers, (2) many people who don't pay their bills, (3) the high rate of inflation for that country's currency. Is this what happens in India?

You said it. Unless you're Vijay Mallya(I hope he has enough credits to pay his phone bills!) or Ambani's you're not getting a credit card from banks.

what games are available in 4K and/or DX-12? Is there a reliable link with this information?

With my new monitor/video card combo I'm running Diablo III a 3840x2160 @60FPS. It looks incredible! Maybe there are other games that support this.

You should put a 660 as a slave card to calc PhysX

I'm not too clear how that arrangement works. According to Nvidia, you cannot connect or more cards in SLI unless they have the same GPU and the same amount of RAM. I'm thinking this might not SLI. Can you install 2 card without SLI and have the 2 GPU's perform some sort of parallel processing?

Another benefit of using a single GTX-970 coupled with a Core i7-4770K is less power usage. The case no longer blows hot air when I play my game. Also, my 550VA UPS doesn't kick out when running the system at full load.

Not sure if it requires a SLI bridge, but well basically, go into the Nvidia control panel -> Set 3d Preferences -> Set PhysX Configuration, and select the older card to calc physx.

Did you ever run this test yourself? I'm asking because, as I recall, the first time I ran 2 video cards instead of 1, even before booting up I got a warning message that no SLI bridge was connected. In my case an SLI bridge is out of the question, Nvidia says a GTX-970 and GTX-660 won't mix.

No, but according to several causes you can use a seperate gpu as physx.  How come an SLI cable is out of question?

Regarding the use of a 2nd video card for PhysX, of all the links the video is most informative. For starters, there is no need for SLI. With my setup SLI is not possible. According to NVidia SLI will work only if both cards have the same GPU and the same amount of RAM. The GTX-970 has a GM-204-200 with 4GB RAM, the GTX-660 has GK-106-400 with 2GB RAM i.e., they're SLI incompatible.

Another important observation in the video is that when the guy ran the GTX-580 with the old GT-6600, PhysX ran slower because the old card was a bottleneck. I his case only by running a GTX-550Ti or higher could it be faster. I'm assuming this precisely my situation. The GTX-970 is much faster than the GTX-660 which would create a bottleneck. Add to this that the GTX-660 is a power hog and runs very hot under load. The GTX-970 is much more efficient and runs very cool. Reinstalled the 550VA PSU with no problem.

I might add that D3 is a heavy PhysX game and even gives you the option to disable it in its configuration (for those with slower cards). I have PhysX enable with everything set to maximum and the game runs great, extremely realistic - and this is at 3840x2160 60FPS!

Been feeling really down lately. Family is stressing me out, so its honestly just a way to avoid the family.
It's been raining heavy rain drops (like, small amounts, but loud big drops)
Been really nice weather without heat the last days. Its much better than having to sweat and feel miserable haha!

Is it so bad that it keeps you awake at night?

I'm also a heat hater. Sadly here during summer it's from 35° to 40°C every day. In the morning about 26°-28°C (the lowest during these months). My electric bill is though the roof, the A/C is on almost all the time.  :(

Anyway, have you invested in solar?
If you have a basement, try spending time there, the below-ground will automatically cool it down. Thats what I do.. :b

Anyway, have you invested in solar?

I've looked at that and it's not viable. The cost of installing 5kW panels is about $10,000 or more - I will take maybe 20-30 years to pay it off with electric power savings. Chances are I won't be around 30 years from now.

If you have a basement, try spending time there, the below-ground will automatically cool it down. Thats what I do.. :b

No basement. The house is built on a concrete slab. Come to think of it, one thing I've observed is that there are rarely any basements in places where is doesn't snow. It seems the further north you go, the more basements you see.

Have you ever been to a place with a tropical climate?

Crete's not exactly tropical, although it can certainly warm up there during the summer months. With respect to the islands west of Morocco, I assume you mean Spain's Canary Islands. I believe they have a sub-tropical climate. :)

Here are a few shots:
BF3 is a game I hold close to my heart, I have around 300-400 hours ingame of it. It's a fantastic shooter, however the developers gave up on balancing it, and instead released BF4 which is more balanced but not as good air maps.
The game is one of my alltime favorites. I would buy BF1 but I just dont feel like it at the moment.

Scarface, do you like games such as Fallout 4, or perhaps Starcraft2 ? I didn't like fallout 4, it's not my type of game. However Starcraft 2 is fantastic, especially the HotS campaign. (But I'd recommend playing them in order..) I'm currently in the LOTV campaign, but I'm having a pause from it. Since you have a car, do you like driving games? I'd strongly recommend Dirt 3 if you want a casual racinggame, or Dirt if you want to go hardcore.. :p It's a stunningly beautiful game and you'll have to grind to get any progress at all.

In any case, regarding please check out my speeds as monitored by testmy and speednet:

These tests were done one after another on separate tabs. Notice how horribly inaccurate testmy is! They were off by a full 200+ mbps! This is inexcusable!

As much as you may hate flash, there is no point in using testmy.

In any case, regarding please check out my speeds as monitored by testmy and speednet:
(http://i.imgur.com/NjYXRUM.jpg) I was looking at the Performance -> WiFi tab on windows, and it reported speeds of around 150~mbit down. However, the testmy.net did not reflect this in the result. I've never reached any "reasonable speeds" on testmy.net.
However, speedtest reflects my speed with around 4~mbit loss (if you compare it to the WiFi adapters tab in the Task Manager.

Perhaps its more correct on lower speed connections..? What do I know.. I don't have a low speed connection available..  ::)

The best way that I've used to test the internets connection is to rent a server from i.e amazon for 1 hour, and do an actual upload of a larger sized file, and also a download of it.

to Vasudev: at least you don't mind showing you have quite a low connection speed. Besides me, humbert and shadow.97, few users without fiber-optic connection have already showed their speed tests. Most probably we are hardly representative of the forum. Actually those who are "geeks" often have good connections, and those who have slow speeds don't care about it. Well, in fact you have a internet speed close to the one of my father who is living in a rural area (not in Bangalore, India)- and who is paying practically the same as I pay, but he doesn't really care.

Well, in fact you have a internet speed close to the one of my father who is living in a rural area (not in Bangalore, India)- and who is paying practically the same as I pay, but he doesn't really care.

@scarface: So, Humb, you, shadow97, Danil aren't on FTTH and getting these speeds? Today at my college, we got an amped up data limit to 4GB( from 512 megs and <50KBps speed limit) and 30MB down and 100MB upspeeds and I had to download some updates and drivers and finished the whole thing in under an hour. I missed my Visual Studio IDE download when my data limit was reached.

Hi. now i am playing GTA V game really interesting. Anyone tried this game ?
I played this quite a bit. Last played 2 days ago with a friend online. I have 170 hours on record :)

I am not entirely sure if I currently have FTTH. I do believe I have, because Sweden has done massive investment in FTTH. I am very certain I have Fiber to a very very close point anyhow. Becuase I currently live in an appartment, they could have pulled fibre cables to a box right outside the appartments, and then pulled copper the last bit without huge speed/ping losses.
My parents house down south has FTTH.
About mobile deals. I paid around 16 USD for 20GB data, with a speed of around 40-80Mbit depending on the area. Ofcourse, within 4g range. Although sweden has really good 4g/3g coverage.
I changed my deal though, because I've started doing calls.. (Mainly telephone queues ripping me off) I used to pay around 1/10th of a dollar per minute. Now I pay around 25$ for infinite calls, text(including image texts) and 20gb data.
I use around 7GB each month with normal usage. (Videos, maybe a few pdf's, forgetting to turn on Wifi and such)
I'd be fine on 5GB, but I like having the freedom of not caring if i forget my 4g on. It's also nice knowing that if I want to, I can connect my pc anywhere(Because I got extra simcards that use the cellular data, and I have it in a 4G dongle).
It works superb.

It's facinating though, today alot of the web was down. (because of Dyn). This is why we need local backups. My friend had a local DNS that he allowed me to use to look up IP's. I was rescued.  ::) But still, exams in a week and the schools webpage for login was down. Meaning, no internet at school and also no network for a majority of pages at home. I ended up doing around 3 hours studies and then play some Counterstrike and League of legends with friends. Yesterday, it was 3 months since my last game in League of legends. I really don't like that game anymore, they havnt stepped up to the competition.

TALKING ABOUT GAMES!
Macs. Macs cant game? Right?
They do play games, but most of them can be run just as well under Ubuntu.
I recently traded an old laptop(I dont remember if I told the forum about this) for a macbook pro mid 2010.
The harddrive started clicking after around 2 days of usage. So I replaced it with a preowned ssd for 20$.
The laptop starts fast now, and so does it shutting down. But there is no noticable gain inside of the OS.
Opening apps, such as Firefox, safari or texteditors are not noticably faster. Perhaps its because of the ssd's age.
I don't know. I dont care, I just didnt want a laptop with a dying harddrive.

Things I hate so far:
The keyboard layout is not the same as on Windows. (fn, ctrl, alt, option etc. are in the wrong location.)
No option to allow the pc to keep running with a closed lid. You'll have to download an application online to do that.
To connect remotely through Mac OSX's native remote desktop on a windows machine, you'll have to use VNC. The password will be sent encrypted, but not the session itself. Security flaww!
You can not disable mouse acceleration(Perhaps you can with a 3rd party app but... Yeah..)
The 2010 model does not allow 1333mhz ram, it causes Bios Panic. You'll have to have atleast one stick of 1033mhz ram. This means, that I have to run the laptop with 5GB ram. (Instead of normal 2gb). I've hit 3.5 gb 2 times so far.

What I love:
It's alot like Ubuntu visually.
Somehow it feels unusually smooth.
It's hard to mess up some critical component by accident.
I find it easier to understand what the functions do. (In the settings panel)
Installing apps. Wow, no clicking Next, Next, accept, Next Install. Yeah..

In 10 years I'll be running linux as primary OS.

I know its a little off-topic, but this is important.  Does anybody has an idea on how to mantain co-existenance of different OpenCL ICD on Ubuntu,  I'm unsuccessful with intel OpenCL and NV CUDA to get working together. Tried every methods, but no success. So, I'm thinking of trying it on W10. Currently, downloading VS 2015, so far only 1.5GB download since 4-5hrs. Bad connection and bad timing.

Briefly going back to the subject of speeds.

Vasudev -> Clearly testmy.net is only useful if you're stuck with very low bandwidth, which is your case. As you can see for yourself, when you've got fiber testmy.net is all but useless. The massive differences you saw are inexcusable. These people need to modernize their service fast, every day that passes you'll see more and more fiber.

I'm assuming FTTH means "fiber to the house". This isn't exactly my case. There's fiber to the node, and from there it's a coaxial cable to the modem. Google is in the process of constructing an all-fiber system here.

FTTH= Fiber to the Home, so very close!
Personally, Fiber to the node, then Coaxial or other method to the house is my currently prefered method because it's cheaper per meter. The disadvantage is that houses far from the node will suffer from worse response times.

In games, speed does matter, but not alot. on a 1.5Mbit down 0.5 mbit connection you will be able to play alot of games. I can't come up with a game on the spot that requires higher speeds, unless you're the lobby host.
If you play over 4G networks, you'll likely see response times from 30, to 100ms. Most often these will have jitter. The jitter will cause issues in games that you play online.
A while ago when I was searching for a place to live, I stayed at a hotel with horrible wifi. (connection drops, too many users on one network) 4G was the only option. I got speeds from 10mbit to around 30. It depended on the time and wheather. I played some Counterstrike (Global Offensive). It theoretically worked, but in practice the bullet registration was a mess. It was very hard to hit any bullets. Enemies popping up from behind walls and instantly killing you, before you get to see them. (Note, I'm used to 5MS ping in CSGO.) I've played alot on American servers (Westcoast 230ms~). I'd say that the 4g network brings around the same disadvantage as 230ms ping. Just because of the heavy jitter. When I play on the north east US server (Sterling) I do notice that there is some lag, but it is playable and enjoyable.
Here's a server map for Counterstrike's servers. I am quite sure that GTA5 uses the same servers. Or atleast the same IP ranges.

For the average internet user, FTTH is a waste of money. Except for computer geeks and gamers(and some others ofcourse...) 50/10Mbit is sufficient with a responsetime of 20ms to the closest node.
I was thinking some a few days ago, i saw that some US company has datacaps on Fiber. It got me thinking. I would hate a cap on download, but I could accept a cap on upload. That could be used to prevent DDoS, seedboxes etc.
I got around 400GB uploaded data the last month. A cap on 100GB would get me on my knees. But the average Joe would not notice such a cap.

Talking about Battlefield 3 & 4. I definately agree with Scarface. Battlefield 3 has something that brings spirit to the game that Battlefield 4 is missing. I would buy Battlefield 1. But it's a damn ripoff to get the full version with the future DLCs.

If you want to try a game that is alot like Sims, but for computers.. I would really suggest Software inc. It is quite cheap on Steam. It's currently in Alpha but is very playable. You are the CEO of a company, and you make the company grow. (or shrink) You build the buildings, and make people make software for you!

Fun fact, I currently have these games installed on my computer:
League of Legends
Minecraft
Battlefield 2
Battlefield 3
Battlefield 4
Overwatch
Starcraft 2(Triology)
Counterstrike 1.6
Counterstrike Global Offensive
Dirt Rally
Dirt 3
Fallout 4
Software inc.
Minesweeper(XP Edition)
Runescape
Grand theft Auto 5
Spyro Year of the Dragon (PS1 emulator)

That said. These are all decent/good games.

I hope you're all doing good. University is stressing me out, and I have my final exam this Friday.

They're marketing terms, but pure fiber cables are costly and infrastructure is complex. To be precise FTTB/C is the correct one.

@Shadow -> If all you do is play games and download a large file every now and then, clearly anything over 100 Mbps is overkill unless there is no other way to get good ping times. This isn't my case. I have had at the same time 10 large torrents downloading, 2 TV's streaming 4K video, and other 20 clients on my router doing all sorts of other things. In a month I usually bring down 400 to 500GB of data.

@Vasudev -> FTTH might be costly, be here in the USA 2 companies (Google and AT&T) are installing it meter by meter. Hopefully one of the 2 companies will reach my neighborhood in the coming year. I recently visited a friend in Mexico. Her apartment already has it. I looked at the modem which said "optical" and the company's cable to the modem is a thin cable with a piece of glass at the end where the connector is.

Bottom line - this is the future.

@humb: How many people are there in your house? 20 clients??? At my place, 4 clients connected to the dongle gives sluggish speeds. Do you still get access to torrents, I was unsuccessful till very end in finding some torrents in TPB.
Recently, my classmate is studying in the US, IIRC he's in Georgia using VZW with 1Gbps downlink & 100-200Megs uplink.

This is not an exaggeration. Currently the following devices are connected to my router:

1) My desktop
2) My phone
3) My tablet
4) My lady's desktop
5) Her phone
6) Her laptop
7, 8, 9) Roku streamers - 3 of them
10, 11) Smart TV (2 of them)
12) Xbox belonging to a family member here temporarily

There are times when family visits for a day or so. All those people have phones, tablets and/or laptops, and they always ask me to put their devices on the network. This is in addition to what's already on there.

To deal with the load I have a Netgear CM500 cable modem. This is connected to an Asus AC-3200 router, which is heavy duty. You already know my speeds.

Regarding torrents, don't search the Pirate Bay. Download and install Torrent Rover (Google for the link). It's excellent, you'll find just about anything.

You're reading too many newspapers. The only people who can really get in trouble are those who are stupid enough to host warez on local servers and make themselves very public. If it were as bad as the government tries to portray then there simply aren't enough jails for 1.2 billion Indians.

As a safety precaution I use Torguard for my torrent downloads. It gives those in the swarm a fake IP address, making it virtually impossible to track me down.

Before I forget, be sure to install the HTTPS Everywhere Firefox addon. It even comes pre-installed on Tor, which shows how important it is.

Pardon me for not explaining. Torguard is a paid VPN or, in my case a proxy server. I pay $5 a month. My torrent traffic goes through their proxy, so that anyone in the swarm who looks at me will see a nonexistent IP address. I signed up after getting an email from my ISP telling me they got a complaint from someone who saw me downloading a movie. Since I signed up the problem has disappeared completely.

Their service is great. Fast as a bullet and it never fails. I check using this site: http://ipmagnet.services.cbcdn.com (http://ipmagnet.services.cbcdn.com)

Is anyone familiar with Gears of War 4? I heard about it by accident. I like the fact that it's a 3rd person shooter. Not only that, but it's DX12 only and 64bit only - DX11 and 32bit are not supported. It also eats 80GB of disk space. I'm thinking if I get it to put it on my 2nd HDD drive so as not to eat too much space on my 1st SSD drive. Screenshots look impressive. Any reviews?

I also like the fact that it's not backward compatible. Sometimes I think the only way people will upgrade is to force them to. Everyone takes the path of least resistance and want to stick to what they know, regardless of how old it is.

I heard it was one of the best dx12 games around. If you're downloading repacks from CPY or Fitgirl, I recommend putting the downloaded game onto a SATA SSD or PCIe to get it installed fast as possible.Otherwise on a HDD, it would take a long time and installer will stall if it takes more than 3 hours.
I'm playing Witcher 2 AoK and Witcher 3 is almost finished except exploring Skellige.
Also ROTR is one the best look games I've seen. Grab the fitgirl version with selective downloads.

Currently I have a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD for C: and a 1.5TB mechanical drive for D:. Currently C: is about 50% full and Gears of War takes up 80GB of space, which is why I was looking to put it on D:. It seems this isn't a good idea, especially for a game like this one.

The games you mention. Are they DX12 also? I've seen some video of DX12 games. The characters are virutally indistinguishable from human actors, even down to the emotions displayed on their faces.

Tonight, the users of the forum are very lucky: the game Wolfenstein II : The new colossus is available.

The screenshots are very nice. Is this a DX12 game? Certainly looks like it, the level of detail is impressive. If so, as you guys know the game requires Windows 10 and minimum Nvidia GFX-970 video card. I'm not too clear what AMD card will work.

If you have an SSD and you're a gamer, you're going to fill up the drive in no time. I realize this can be offloaded to a secondary mechanical drive, but that'll slow down your access time. Not something you'd want in a game.

How do you open .bin files. Will Winrar work or do you need something else?

C'mon Scarface! When you play multiplayer games you're behind a monitor where chronological age is meaningless. Now, if you don't play MMO games because you just don't like them, that's another matter entirely. That's why I don't play them.

I don't think age is meaningless. Mostly because when you are young you have more time to play and then you have sufficient practice.
Here is an example: look at the ones who won prizes last year, at the Paris games week: a bunch of school boys.

I you mean that people under [for example] age 18 generally play better, then I agree. At that age they learn very fast and rapidly master all the secrets to the game. Other than that it doesn't matter.

10 months ago I weighed 94kg because I was eating too much. Food had become a way to forget everyday worries. I used to drink a lot of Soda too. But I stopped that altogether.
Now I weigh 85 kg, it's better. I don't look like a pregnant man any longer.

How tall are you? I'm 1.83m, I weigh 91kg and I look generally trim. I used to weigh around 98, then I adjusted my diet a little. I also walk about 4½ km every morning. It helps keep me in shape and clears my head.

But, I take antidepressants. And I'm likely to experience side-effects. You might be wondering why I'm telling you all this, well, I think I don't have the mental capacities I used to have 15 years ago. It's clear. And I'm sure I'm not an exception.

So do I, plus some other pills. What are you taking and how effective is it?

Metro 2033 / Last Light are among my favorite games. I should point out there are GOG versions available on torrents. Whenever there's choice I go with GOG because they are commercial DRM-free releases and you know you're getting the full, untouched game with clean & hassle free setup.

Following the message of Fuj, I made another installer based on the 2.0.0.2 Gog version of Metro last light redux. The installer was improved too.

Update: Since Metro 2033 is somewhat better than Metro Last light, Metro LL was deleted, and a repack of Metro 2033 Redux is available here: http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg30063#msg30063

Question: when I made my previous post, I deleted it. Then a little later posted again but somewhat changed. But now it's gone and my original post, the one I deleted, is up instead. You wouldn't happen to know anything about this mysterious phenomenon, would you scarface?
I did that mysteriously.
When I saw scarface deleted your post, I restored it and realized you double posted and deleted the duplicate one.

As promised, tonight, I’m putting a few new upload links for some games.

These repacks, made by me, are brand new. They are smaller and faster than the ones I previously uploaded. For these repacks, the same algorithm as the one in fitgirl’s repacks was used.

Astray – 1.07 Gb
Astray is a first-person horror/puzzle game set in an abandoned museum based on unusual cultures, legends, and supernatural themes; but something more sinister lurks beneath the surface..

Playing as the nephew of the museum’s missing curator, you must survive as you make your way through the abandoned building, interacting with objects, and completing puzzles along your way to unravelling the mystery of what lies beneath the museum.

Tonight, another game is available on the forum. It's a small but interesting game, called Layers of Fear - Inheritance.
Only 1.32 Gb (the repack is smaller than Fitgirl's but the content is the same).

Lately, many people registered on the forum, because they probably noticed the users of the forum are spoilt children, with the recent numerous releases.

Today, the game Dishonored, released in 2012, is available.
If you don't have the necessary configuration for Dishonored 2 or the appropriate ADLS line to download it, maybe you can try this one.
If you are interested in this game, take it since I won't keep it and renew the link, Dishonored 2 is much better, graphically speaking.

Only 4.3 Gb (smaller than fitgirl's repack).

Try Hitman 2016.

For Dishonored 2 I deleted shared_2_3.sharedrsc, a 8Gb file. Otherwise, my repack would be slightly bigger than fg's repack. This file is a mystery, apparently on the forum zenhax they couldn't extract it they said it was shared...Well I tested the game and didn't encounter any problems.

It's clear. And I'm sure I'm not an exception

So do I, plus some other pills. What are you taking and how effective is it?

I'l l reply later

congrats on the weightloss!
I am myself; around 185cm, 50kg.
I could make a massive list of antidepressants I've taken; but I actually never felt any effect(positive or negative) from them.
The only ones I felt helped me are the ones that put me to sleep and anxiety reducing ones.
Talking about health: I've stopped drinking milk for almost 2 weeks now; and I've noticed a great reduction in tonsil stones.(Something that made me feel very uncomfortable around others.)

Back on topic:
Been playing a lot of VRChat lately, as I picked up a used Vive. It's a nice way to socialize without the pressure of talking, or just sitting down and listening to others. Would love to listen to all you forum members on there.
When the controllers have been charging I've played Fallout 4. (No mods, except unlock fps and bugfix mods).

Paroxetine and Pristiq are SSRI and SNRI type antidepressants respectively. Psychiatrists love them and prescribe them constantly. They don't dop much for me. I take Parnate which is an MAOI and it works much better. Unfortunately many of these antidepressants, especially SSRI's, lose their efficacy after a while. No point in taking it if it's not helping.

I can't wait for the day edible marihuana products are available for sale in Texas. They're available in Colorado and (I believe) California.

Today, a new repack is available on the forum and it’s the game outlast 2, released in April 2017.

It’s smaller than the previous repack (9.7gb vs 10.2 gb). For a faster launch, the intro is skipped at startup. You can test it and tell me if it works.

Note that I deleted files like Textures-SM4.tfc and lighting-SM4.tfc in Outlast 2 to obtain such a size (Textures-SM5.tfc and lighting-SM5.tfc were needed).
Since the game was working perfectly without them I made my own research: It seems SM4 and SM5 stand for shader model. And wikipedia says: SM5 is a feature of dx11 while SM4 is a feature of dx10. It means that if you computer only has dx10 (I think it's the case for vista, or xp), or if you have an old graphic card, the repack as it is may not be compatible with your computer. If some of you want to download it, you won't be surprised if it doesn't work on your computer.

Note that the videos were re-encoded and that a few soundtracks were removed. You will probably not notice the difference with the original game.

Note that I'm probably going to release a new, smaller repack for Battlefield 3. If some of you can't download with uploadfile.net, I can also upload to transfernow.net. It seems the download speed is better (but the file is only available for 6 days). Vasudev told me a few years ago he had frequent power outages, and in spite of his good connection he can't download the files I put on the forum.
Besides, if some of you, like Usman or aa1234779 have interesting photos, comics, or anything else, you know you can upload them here. For the moment the administrator Maher accepts them. It's not the case on many forums. On darkumbra.net there are many programs, but most of them are useless. For information that's where I found the latest edition of virusscan enterprise, I couldn't find it anywhere else (but nobody talks). And for those who want games there is the site of fitgirl (I made few repacks - because I only have a dozen of games), but mines are probably better.

There is a small glitch with the installer that goes beyond 100% (rebuilding files). But you just have to wait till the end. It copies the files till 25%, then rebuilds the files. The file records.inf has been created for the progress bar to work during this part in the installer.

Since I didn’t find documentation about isexec, there must be a problem with the percentage in my script:

Well, I' going to answer aa1234779.
This picture could have been taken in the flat of abaaoud with a member of the GIGN (I'm not sure he had a view of the Eiffel tower though).
But we are probably facing some crisis even if we are not aware of that yet. As far as France is concerned, there is a deteriorating social climate in Paris. There is also a migrant crisis (they are "expelled" by the police and they come back a few hours later). And above all, even if we are stopping pollution in the world altogether, the 2 degrees temperature rise is now unavoidable, maybe 4 or 5 by the end of the century according to the forecasts of the IPCC. And the average is not important. Weather and climate are chaotic systems. If temperatures are rising, it means that extreme temperature will be more frequent. Imagine that by the end of the century, we have regularly 2 days with temperatures above 50°C in France (45 degrees are frequent, in summer). Nothing can withstand such temperature. So agriculture would be dead. Most of France would become a desert. That's what a few specialists are now saying.
If you can try to go to a place where there are animals, like goats, birds, fishes, baboons...It means there is food. It's the case in Palestine, Papua, and probably in a few regions in Africa like Senegal or Egypt.
If you see some imbeciles with big cars, it means that this society is superficial and highly dependent on oil, the economic collapse will be all the more significant.

Note that an updated, lite (reduced with rebase by harkaz) version of windows 7 x64 sp1 will be released soon.

I agree although I would add that I see both pictures are wrong in the first place.. Anyone who  perpetrates such horrible acts on humanity is a criminal no matter the ideological background nor race.
It's always right for nations to decide on what is deemed necessary for our lives in real referrendums and elections and the rule of just laws and not have any ideology enforced on them and their kids whether right or left, religious or secular.
People of the world can work out great solutions for our race and win the race between us and looming destruction if we don't reform in unity the ideals that all nations hold dear without exceptions like as you said for example better laws & enforcement globally for saving the environment, protecting what's left and hopefully reversing the harm done to our earth.. Many other things should follow in a global rights unity movement that will not be loved by big imperialist corps for sure among many.
It's better to search for good common grounds among nations and people to take it upon themselves to save our planet.
The environment and human dignity are red lines in many decent cultures around the world I don't claim it as an invention of my religious teachers but a reafirmation of previously known facts by teachers of the same 'good' pattern.
To go further, people could look onto calling for a global minimum wage that states and companies cannot go below in wages.

Shame how many Noble prize winners would not be involved in such a global effort by the people and for the people.

Heck.. a reader could say "these are definitely the writings of a madman"  ;D

The problem is files are encrypted and the compression is poor. I will see what I can do.

I don't understand what you mean. Is bandwidth a byword for RAM?. But maybe you should install windows 7 since there is no big difference between the 2 Os. I remember that Vista was pretty bad as far as RAM management is concerned. I don't have such problems with windows 10. But I have a pretty good configuration too. It would be probably slower than windows 7 if I had only 2 or 4 Gb of RAM, since there are always more -useless- features.

I really meant Data balance. I only get 70GB, half of it are used up by OS updates, remaining for web browsing, downloading files etc.. Until 100GB is affordable I have to limit game downloads or even Visual studio IDE downloads.

Well, I remember I checked this game and the installer worked. Guess what, I tested it and I had the same error, stuck at 80% (the end of the extraction of setup1.bin, see code below).
Then, I switched the names of setup1.bin and setup3.bin...it worked till the end. You can do that too, the installer can extract the files in any order. But the progress bar will be a bit broken (If you are switching setup1 and 3 names, you have 2% for the biggest file of the game. Doesn't really matter though, it was a question of minutes on my computer).
Srep 3.9 is randomly causing errors. I'm not sure it's always stopping well once the files are extracted. And then it seems the installer is not extracting the following bin files. (that's why when I can I don't use it, in this game it's only used in the 1st bin file, the others are using a powerful LZ based archiver, adding srep was not giving a better compression (usually the case for standard files such as dll or exe). I had the same error with the evil within2, if you are switching names you can install the whole game. And sometimes it works without that. But for sure the bin files aren't corrupt.

Code: [Select]
if not ShowChangeDiskWindow ('Please Insert Disk 1 To Continue..', ExpandConstant('{src}'),'Setup-1.bin') then break;
if not ISArcExtract ( 0, 80, ExpandConstant('{src}\Setup-1.bin'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), '', false, '', ExpandConstant('{tmp}\arc.ini'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), False) then break;
if not ShowChangeDiskWindow ('Please Insert Disk 2 To Continue..', ExpandConstant('{src}'),'Setup-2.bin') then break;
if not ISArcExtract ( 0, 18, ExpandConstant('{src}\Setup-2.bin'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), '', false, '', ExpandConstant('{tmp}\arc.ini'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), False) then break;
if not ShowChangeDiskWindow ('Please Insert Disk 3 To Continue..', ExpandConstant('{src}'),'Setup-3.bin') then break;
if not ISArcExtract ( 0, 02, ExpandConstant('{src}\Setup-3.bin'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), '', false, '', ExpandConstant('{tmp}\arc.ini'), ExpandConstant('{app}'), False) then break;

Well Vasudev, forget Night Cry, I will probably release the game "Bring to light" soon.

If you are getting bored, here is a link for a little video made by me, in Paris.
Without oil, we understand with this video that there would be practically nothing any more in the towns as we know them.

Note that I deleted the messages talking about Night Cry.
You can find many review about this game and it's not very good. I don't if the substantive boring would be an euphemism.
As Vasudev correctly pointed out, there is sometimes a glitch with the installer that's stopping at 80%, just try again.
You can still find it there: https://mega.nz/#F!3i4wzQQa!0fMZKEaW5eSJm8EVJFNa0A
I'll remove the game altogether a bit later too.

If Vasudev wants to restore the messages about NightCry they are still in the bin...

Nightcry installed fine. But DOTO didn't. I believe I downloaded the very first version you linked with mega.nz.
To Vasudev: I tested the version in this message, it's indeed my latest version (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg29126#msg29126 (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg29126#msg29126))
(the 1st version didn't include update2). And I had no problem during the install.

Downloading Bring to Light as we speak.
I will uninstall NightCry if I can't pass first level.

Downloading Bring to Light as we speak.
I will uninstall NightCry if I can't pass first level.
You can find a walkthrough if you are stuck somewhere during the game on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUIdfW3UVQo
if you can't get away wih nightcry, try astray, it's much better anyway (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg28755#msg28755 (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg28755#msg28755))
And as far as Bring to light is concerned, I did not test it. But I read positive reviews. Note that in the installer, I chose the design, it's not the official logo of the game.
Same thing for the game Sonic mania (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg29339#msg29339 (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg29339#msg29339))

I don't think any game on the forum is using dx12. But for the games using dx12, windows 10 is required, with a compatible graphic card. Otherwise dx11 is used, but the difference is probably slim.

DX12 games aren't stable when you try to game for 3hr+. Take for example Hitman dx12 which barely runs for 20 mins straight unlike dx11.1 game. I tested it on nvidia 980M 8GB. FPS on dx12 is better and consistent than DX11.
@Shadow97: Try setting Target Reuse to True in advanced graphics settings.

You're saying they're unstable after 3hr but they're better on the 980M. Are we talking differences in hardware or what?

Yes they run more smoothly like AMD Mantle API. I even like how good vulkan API runs on maxwell 2 GPUs 970 and 980 models. All that good will simply a waste when a game crashes when a progress is being saved and its a pain to start over!

It goes without saying that DX-12 games are designed with high-end hardware in mind, and I don't mean just a beefed-up video card. Logic dictates that if you use an older system you're bound to run into problems. Add to this that every time something new is released, it takes a while to iron out all the bugs.

The problem is almost NIL with AMD GPUs. Problem is Nvidia, even Pascal does crash suddenly on dx12.

Been playing some BF5 the last days.
It's been a positive experience.
However i must say, that i hope that they do not change TTL(time to kill). As i always preferred  the hardcore modes of battlefields.

The game has a great flow, even on low fps.
I'd say 45 fps feels like 90 fps in many other games.

Not overly chaotic so far, and a very visually appealing game.
Will attach some screenshots as soon as i un-bricked my computer. (It keeps attempting to upgrade to 1809, which fails each time. Leaving it in an unbootable state.).

Use Dism++ or windows update blocker to cleanup Windows 10 junk blocking the update OR disable WU entirely. I think Humbert can vouch for Dism++'s effectiveness.

Tonight, a new, smaller repack of Crysis 3 is available on the forum.

Link: Crysis 3 (https://mega.nz/#F!1F0j3Q5I!m_XasUacrIApc4LeYD6ozA)

The repack is exceptionally small, only 5,90 Gb, much smaller than fitgirl’s repack.
Note that nothing was deleted. Unlike the corepack repack, the videos are original (and the cutscenes are working).  The repack is small, but it takes a lot of time to install: When the files are extracted, some files are transcoded and rebuilt. It takes up to 60 minutes.

Talking about games..
I was positively surprised by Dirt 2.0.

It added small elements that in the bigrun make the game much better than the original Dirt Rally.

It adds even more focus on driving safe, more than driving crazy spinning around and such.
Now it costs alot to repair your car. If you crash it you may have to finish several rounds with only 3 tyres. Which is very hard.
It also now punishes you for blasting through the end corner, just because you didnt take damage after finishline earlier.
You also get a proper punishment for leaving the startline too early.

What are the Cons?
Its still hard to get into, if you dont buy the 'premium' feature where you get more cars to start off with.
Thats one of the main issues I had with the original Dirt Rally. I played so many rounds just to get my 2nd car and actually start playing the game properly. The first cars limited me to Rally cross. Sure, fun, but not 3 hour grind fun.
Extremely graphically taxing audience, bringing fps down to the 30's.

Video(Click Image) of a random track I played. You can visibly see me get punishing for cutting a corner, and not breaking in time.
I would most likely have made that U turn if I had softer tyres. I chose the hardest ones as they currently are the most economic ones, as they dont get wear and tear as fast. At the cost of crashing the entire car and ending up costing more anyway..  ???

(http://i3.ytimg.com/vi/VS6TBsGGyXc/hqdefault.jpg) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS6TBsGGyXc)

Anyways.
Mostly been playing this, vrchat, PUBG, League of Legends, Factorio and super hexagon lately.
They're all great games in their own ways.

I read an article saying that in the not-too-distant future more and more games will be streamed. You play the game in your browser. Their servers, not your computer, do the heavy work. Nothings needs to be installed and an old computer will play the game as well as a new one, provided you have a relatively fast internet connection.

There are currently Datacenters in London that offers this feature. 50mbit was recommended if i recall correctly.

The specific company is also something I forgot about.

I'd say that you're wrong.
I set up a VPN at home, and could play at distance with below 100mbit on the receiving end. I was at my cousins house.

(Steam home stream over vpn)
My estimation is that it was around 30 mbit. Ofcourse not top quality, and it was 768p.
Ping around 3~5ms as it was within my hometown and using fiber.
This was a few years ago when steam home stream was new. Was playing GTA 5 this way when we were having birthday parties.

I set up a VPN at home, and could play at distance with below 100mbit on the receiving end. I was at my cousins house.

Did you do this using your router or with VPN software?

OpenVPN on the same machine that the game was streamed from.

I read an article saying that in the not-too-distant future more and more games will be streamed. You play the game in your browser. Their servers, not your computer, do the heavy work. Nothings needs to be installed and an old computer will play the game as well as a new one, provided you have a relatively fast internet connection.
Yeah 100Mb is a bare minimum for lag free experience. Its just like Nvidia stream.

Even with OFC the pings are around 10-50ms. For a single user 30-50Mbps is more than enough. For a household you need 100Mbps when everyone uses the same WiFi AP continuously streaming/downloading/uploading stuffs.

Note that a new repack of Dishonored 2, released in 2017, is available on the forum. Game version is v1.77.9 (it is the latest version).
This repack is 1Gb smaller than the previous one.
Decompression is more reliable, no error found for the moment.
In case the installer crashes (the installer was tested twice and it didn't happen), restart the install - note that the repack is using srep 3.93 which is known to have memory leaks under windows 10.
It's only 17.7 16.9 15.6 Gb, way smaller than fitgirl's repack. The videos were re-encoded (50% of the original), visually it's not different (if you are not using too big a screen).
I've deleted 8gb of data  (the biggest file of the game), no soundtracks removed, no textures removed, no levels removed,  it seems the shared resources (this file was named sharedresources...), are not useful and in fact I'm wondering what this file could be used for, apparently the game is perfectly working, no glitch, I tested it (note that on the forum Xentax they didn't find what this file could be used for either).

Tonight, the game « The Dark Occult », released in September 2018, is available on the forum.

Actually, The conjuring house and the dark occult are the same game and the message about the conjuring house was deleted.

But there are a few differences :
The Conjuring House has a new name – The Dark Occult. RYM Games’ psychologically-driven horror title has driven players to ear-piercing screams as they run terrified away from the disfigured residents that creep within the walls of the house. The game’s new name was chosen because it effectively conveys the game’s sinister themes and demonic denizens.
Additionally, to help players that may not have the, ahem, guts to play through the game, RYM Games has now added Dread Mode to the game. The new default game mode will give players a few more tools to help them through the haunted halls of The Dark Occult, such as higher player endurance, less difficulty, and a map that highlights important areas in the game. For players willing to take a risk and battle the demons head-on, Terror Mode will fit their gameplay needs.

Note that for the new repack I took the intro videos of the conjuring house because they had been re-encoded (hence their smaller size). Therefore, you will see the logos of the conjuring house, even if this is the latest version of The Dark Occult (v1.0.11). Except this, the videos are identical.

Size : 2.76Gb

Note that the repack of Dishonored 2 has been updated. The file setup-6.bin is 150mb smaller. If you have already downloaded the repack (http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg30287#msg30287) you just have to replace setup-6.bin et setup.exe with the new files. It's probably the final version.

the upload of setup1.bin will be over in 2 hour. Currently at 90%.
A few weeks ago, some representatives of the Telecom industry rang my doorbell, and they told me that Optic Fiber would be installed soon. Unfortunately I won't see it, since I will move in 2 months. It was the only thing that I had in Paris that I really cared about and that I was missing actually (FTTH is available in the center of the town). you talked about Dishonored 2 and coincidently I was planning to update the repack.
Note that I made a new setup-6.bin for Dishonored 2. The new file is 30mb smaller but above all, the install is 15 minutes faster (xtool is used instead of reflate, which is slow. I used special parameters because decompression was failing with xtool for this file, till now).
The new setup.exe et setup6.bin will be uploaded this night.

My father used to play the game "Psycho Pinball". It was the only game he knew. It's probably the case for Maher's father too.
When I think about it, I'm not sure he was still playing this game last summer. He was going to bed quite early. At this time maybe he was already ill.

As far as the stock markets are concerned, I find them very expensive. Maybe the s&p 500 peaked today at 3020 points. When you are looking at the PERs of many stocks in the Dow Jones, like Microsoft, Walmart, Mcdo, you have some ratios between 25 and 35. The PER of Procter & Gamble is even standing at 90 for 2019! Historically it's very high. If you have stocks listed on the NYSE, I would sell if I were you.

Today, a new repack for Penumbra Overture and Penumbra Black Plague is available.
Both games are installed. Penumbra requiem is not present in the repack since the last opus is less interesting than the 2 first games.
This repack is 20% smaller than the 2 separate games (only 350 Mb).
Note that you could encounter an error with certain certain configurations, and see the error "Check your OpenAL installation" in Penumbra Black Plague. The necessary files were added to avoid such problems (they were not available in the former repack).

Presentation of Penumbra Overture:

Penumbra: Overture is the first game of the Penumbra series and was originally released on March 30, 2007. Originally titled Penumbra: Overture - Episode One, it was supposed to be the first of three episodes, however Episode Two and Three were scrapped and Penumbra: Black Plague was created in their place, continuing where Penumbra: Overture left off.

The story: Set in the year 2000, Penumbra: Overture follows the story of Philip Buchanon, a thirty-year-old physicist whose mother has recently died. After receiving a mysterious letter from his supposedly dead father, Philip follows a series of clues that lead to him to a mysterious location in uninhabited northern Greenland.

The harsh cold forces him to take shelter in an abandoned mine. Unfortunately, the mine's entrance collapses as he enters it, and he is forced to move deeper inside. Within the mine, Philip discovers diary extracts written by a scientist of some sort, who was alone and gradually resorted to eating cave-dwelling spiders as an alternative food source as his supplies diminished. The unknown person also describes discovering a psychoactive toxin in the spiders and deduced that, after eight months of consuming them in the mine, it was beginning to have an effect on him, physically. Philip also begins receiving radio messages from Tom "Red" Redwood, a man driven insane by cabin fever. Red promises that if he is found, he will give Philip answers. The game follows Philip as he descends deeper into the mines in search of Red while unraveling the secrets of the mine's previous and current inhabitants.

Philip quickly discovers that the mine is inhabited by an ecosystem of abnormally large and hostile animals: dogs, giant spiders, and gargantuan earthworms among others. Abandoned outposts and various scattered papers found throughout the mine indicate that a secret society is studying some unusual phenomena inside the mines.

Following clues and solving various puzzles, Philip eventually comes to an area deep within the mine where Red is waiting for him. Red waits inside an incinerator where he begs Philip to kill him. With no other option, Philip activates the incinerator and, amongst Red's remains, he finds items he needs to progress into a new area of the mine which is identified as "The Shelter". Once inside, Philip notices what appears to be a human watching him. Philip approaches the figure, but the lighting is suddenly extinguished and Philip is knocked out and dragged away.

Presentation of Penumbra: Black Plague:

Penumbra: Black Plague is a creepy and dark psychological horror experience featuring the adventures of Philip as he sets of in search of his dead father. Trapped in a shadowy, underground complex, intrepid explorer Philip is determined to discover the truth behind his father's disappearance. Surrounded by enemies and assaulted by terror from all sides, Philip must collect clues and solve vexing puzzles while combating the gnawing psychological terrors that assail his mind and threaten to strip him of his sanity. Can Philip master his fear and finally uncover the truth behind a mystery that has haunted him for a lifetime?

The story: Penumbra - Black Plague begins as an email sent by Philip Buchanon to a friend, explaining what has happened to him and begging him to finish the work he could not. The rest of the game then proceeds as a flashback narrated by Phillip to his friend in the email, beginning from where the previous game left off.

The game begins with Phillip waking up in a locked room, after being knocked out by an unseen being at the end of the first game. Phillip manages to escape via a nearby air-vent, and finds himself in the underground research facility of the Archaic Elevated Caste, a secret organization dedicated to discovering and researching ancient knowledge. The base is abandoned and in ruins, with all its personnel either dead or transformed into "the Infected", fast, zombie-like creatures that attack Phillip on sight.

Phillip discovers that he has also been infected; however, his reaction to the virus is extremely abnormal; instead of joining the infected hive-mind, he develops a sarcastic, malevolent split-personality that calls itself Clarence who constantly taunts Phillip throughout the course of the game.

Via the base's computer network, Phillip is contacted by Amabel Swanson, an Archaic research scientist who has managed to survive the outbreak by locking herself in her lab. Swanson promises to help cure Philip's infection, if he will make his way to her section of the facility and rescue her.

Through dialogue with Swanson, and various scattered documents found throughout the base, Phillip learns that the Archaic came to Greenland to look for the "Tuurngait," an ancient entity described in native Inuit mythology as primordial spirits native to the area. Penetrating deep underground, the Archaic found and released the Tuurngait, which manifested as a sentient virus that infected the base's personnel. Phillip discovers his father Howard managed to communicate with the Tuurngait, but what he learned drove him to commit suicide after sending Phillip a letter ordering him to destroy his research documents.

Phillip eventually manages to make his way to Amabel's lab, but Clarence causes him to hallucinate and murder Amabel. Using Amabel's lab notes, Phillip manages to rid himself of Clarence by extracting him using a lab machine. However, the machine transfers Clarence into a nearby corpse, which he reanimates and uses to attack Phillip.

Phillip is saved by the Tuurngait itself, as several Infected arrive to destroy Clarence, for Clarence now possesses an individual body and mind rather than part of "the many" in Tuurngait. The Tuurngait communicates directly with Phillip, sending him into his own mind and putting him through a series of spiritual tests designed to test his ability to cooperate, show mercy, and demonstrate self-sacrifice.

Today, a new version of the repack of Soma is available on the forum.
Once again, it's a little bit smaller. If you already have the former version of the repack, you just have to download the new setup-4.bin and setup.exe and delete setup-5.bin.

Soma is a science fiction survival horror video game published by Frictional Games for Microsoft Windows.

Soma takes place on an underwater remote research facility with machinery that begins to take on human characteristics. Simon Jarrett, a fish out of water protagonist, finds himself at the facility under mysterious circumstances and is inadvertently forced into uncovering its past, while trying to make sense of his predicament and potential future.

Tonight, a new AIO repack for Amnesia - The dark descent & Amnesia - A machine for pigs is available on the forum.
This repack is smaller (25%) than the repacks of the two separate games. For both games shortcuts are installed.
Note that map_cache files were deleted.
As of 19 September: some ogg files were re-encoded. The TGA files were recompressed.

Warning: If you play in a dark room, set the brightness/contrast to the right level, wear headphones, then the game might be scary for some users.

Tonight, a new repack of Dishonored is available on the forum.
It's much smaller than the former repack (2.7 Gb vs 4.3 Gb). In this version the DLC (dowloadable content) was deleted, hence a smaller repack. There is only the main campaign in this repack.

As Corvo Attano, protector to an Empress, players find themselves in Dunwall, a grimy port city whose population is being decimated by a rat-born plague. It’s an industrial setting; a fishing town grown rich off the back of the whale oil that powers the city’s circuits. It’s also a hive of corruption, political machinations and power grabbing, and this all comes to the fore when the Empress is assassinated, and Corvo sets out to avenge her death.

That vengeance can take many forms. Unlike so many video game protagonists, Corvo is not pre-ordained to be a mass murderer. The entire game can be completed without killing a single person, so guards can be avoided or knocked unconscious, and non-lethal options can be found for assassination targets.

Of course, if you want to cut a bloody swathe across Dunwall, that’s catered for too. Just be warned: killing your way to the end of the game has a number of ramifications. More dead bodies means more rats and more guards, and a darker overall conclusion.

Note that a smaller repack (500mb smaller) for outlast 2 is available here, all the "recording" videos (useless) were deleted: http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg29111#msg29111
I will also try to make another smaller repack of Soma.

Note that a new repack of We.the revolution will be available next week here: http://www.nomaher.com/forum/index.php?topic=833.msg30171#msg30171
For those who already have the game, I'm not sure it's necessary to download it, it will only be the latest version of the game (v1.30). This new version adds a few improvements: https://techraptor.net/gaming/news/we-revolution-update-adds-special-arena-mode
I hope Vasudev enjoyed this game.

Yes, I'm enjoying it!
Then I will have to test this game. I did not do it yet.
Since you enjoyed it, it means the installer is working, that's good news too.
I noticed that the repack of fitgirl is 200mb smaller. I don't know how to do this since the only files that can be reduced more on my repack are the cutscenes. They have no extensions, I don't know what kind of files they are, and they are not compressible.

Today, a new game repack is available for the users of the forum, titled Deliver Us The Moon, and released on 10 October 2019.

Deliver Us The Moon is a Sci-Fi thriller set in an apocalyptic near future, where Earth's natural resources are depleted. A lone astronaut is sent to the moon on a critical mission to save humanity from extinction.

Size: 4.55 Gb only. The repack has the latest patch 1.3.1.
The repack is using xtool and requires 30 Gb and 8.6 Gb after the installation. The installation is fast. Some videos, notably the intro video, were re-encoded with a bitrate of 6mb/s. On a 17-inch screen, you won't notice the difference.

Note that the upload of the game will be finished soon. The game seems promising even if I did not go past the introduction video yet.

I hope some users have tried the game "Dishonored 2", that you can find here. After downloading it, Vasudev didn't tell us if he liked it. In my opinion, it's one of the best games available in this topic.

A new repack of Dishonored - death of the outsider v1.145 is going to be available soon.
Former size 12.9 Gb. New size: 12.6 Gb

Note that the videos were re-encoded and that a few soundtracks were removed in the first repack. You will probably not notice the difference with the original game. All the tutorial videos were removed. A PDF tutorial is available.
I remember Vasudev had problems to install this game. The new repack is using a more reliable precompression process. What's more videos were re-encoded with a more efficient encoder.

It will be available here:

I hope some of you tested the game Dishonored Doto, available above. I'm still wondering why sleep darts are not available in this game, they were essential in Dishonored 2.

Here's a quick question: the screenshots you showed - is this DX12? I'm asking because the level of detail is superb.

What graphics card are you using?

No, neither game is supporting Dx12 (but DX11). Those screenshots are wallpapers, hence the perfect definition.
My graphic card is an old Geforce Gtx 960.
Here are are 2 screenshots of mine (Dishonored Doto)

I must say I'm not surprised to see humbert play the Dishonored series.
The series requires to be very clever to find the runes and the bonecharms, and achieve low chaos in Dishonored 2.

If I recall correctly you are using a laptop, right?
If it is a desktop after all, and you need another nvidia 960 2gb I can send it to you for free with an sli bridge.

Right. I have a customized Msi Ge72 6qd.
For the graphic card that's kind of you but I don't need anything. I'm waiting for a decline in processors prices before buying a new computer.
I must say that I bought this one 4 years ago, and I'm still able to do everything I want with it. Back in 1995, a 2 year-old processor was already completely obsolete.

Today, the repack of Resident evil 2 – remake is available on the forum.

Size: 14.8 Gb
Link: Resident Evil 2 remake v1.02 (https://mega.nz/#F!8Xh20CJS!GKetEhxoT-7ciHGJtWO2Ng)

The repacks contains update 2 with Extra content. The Denuvo protection was removed.

The plot:
Two months after the events of Resident Evil, most of Raccoon City citizens have been turned into zombies by a leak of Umbrella's T-Virus. At a gas station outside town, rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy meets college student Claire Redfield, who is looking for her brother Chris.
After being separated in Raccoon City, Leon and Claire agree to meet up at the Raccoon police department. The building is infested by zombies, and other monsters including the T-00, or "Tyrant", dispatched to hunt down and kill any survivors. The creatures and various obstacles prevent Leon and Claire from actually reuniting as they are forced to find a way to escape Raccoon City.

Note that the game Wolfenstein The new colossus is not available any longer. It will leave the space needed for this game.
